Excessive consumption of sweet foods by children disturbs intestinal parasites, leading to erosion of the zang-fu organs. This condition is known as Gan syndrome (Pediatric Malnutrition Syndrome). All five flavors enter the stomach; their qi returns to the corresponding zang-fu based on flavor affinity. The Spleen and Stomach are exterior-interior pairs, both associated with Earth and the sweet flavor. Sweetness moistens the Spleen and Stomach; when moistened, parasites become active. Parasite activity leads to erosion and the formation of Gan syndrome. Since parasites are activated by sweetness, it is called Gan. If parasites erode the lower region, sores form at the anus.
