Treats deficiency of Qi in the Spleen and Stomach, where Phlegm-Fluid (Tan Yin) fails to dissipate, manifesting as vomiting with acid regurgitation, distension and stuffiness in the abdomen and hypochondrium, vertigo, nausea, and loss of appetite.
Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus), Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, stir-fried), Cao Guo Ren (Tsaoko Fructus), Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum, washed clean, white pith removed, each 5 liang), Bai Dou Kou Ren (Cardamomi Albi Fructus), Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos, each half liang).
Soak in boiling water day and night, then dry by baking.
Grind the above into a fine powder. Take one qian per dose. First, mix with natural juice of fresh Ginger (Sheng Jiang) to form a paste, add a small amount of stir-fried salt, and take with boiling water.
Treats weakness of Stomach Qi, obstruction and stagnation in the Triple Burner (San Jiao), inability to disseminate and transport water and grain, thus forming Phlegm-Fluid that accumulates between the chest and diaphragm, causing fullness in the chest and diaphragm, cough with rapid breathing, vomiting, and abdominal pain. When lodged in the Zhong Wan region, it also causes arm pain and inability to lift the arm, and heaviness in the waist and legs. If prolonged, the Spleen dislikes dampness; upon contact with water/dampness, it becomes distended. Distension impairs the digestion of water and grain, leading to empty fullness in the abdomen and anorexia. This formula is indicated for these conditions.
Nan Xing (Arisaematis Cum Bile Rhizoma, cut each into more than ten pieces, soak together with Ban Xia in water for three days, changing the water daily; then use 2 liang of Bai Fan [Alumen], grind finely, dissolve in water, soak again for three days, wash clean, and dry by baking), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, cut and broken, 2 liang), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, processed/pao), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Liang Jiang (Galangal Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria, each [weight omitted in original]).
Grind the above into a fine powder. Use 1 liang of Shen Qu and 2 liang of Da Mai (Hordei Fructus Germinatus), grind together to obtain powder, make a paste with water, and mix with the medicinal powder to form pills, sized like Sophora seeds. Take 50 to 70 pills per dose, swallow with warm cooked water, at any time. Regular use warms the Spleen and Stomach, eliminates old cold, resolves stagnation, aids digestion, and wards off fog, dew, wind-cold, mountain miasma, and pathogenic factors from improper seasons. For cases of wine accumulation and retained fluid, undissolved phlegm-water, which have failed to respond to repeated decoction treatments, this formula acts miraculously.
Warms the Middle Jiao, disperses stagnation, resolves fluid retention, and promotes intake of food. Treats choking and oppression in the chest and diaphragm, cold pain in the heart and abdomen. It greatly warms and transforms raw/cold fruits and foods; indispensable in summer.
Suo Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus, 1 liang), Gao Liang Jiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma), Tian Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, washed seven times with hot water, dried by baking, each 4 liang).
Grind the above into a fine powder. Boil wheat flour paste with natural juice of fresh Ginger to form pills, sized like Sophora seeds. Take 50 to 70 pills per dose, swallow with Ginger tea, at any time.
