**Cyan Pulse:** When the cyan pulse appears at the upper position, it is often due to fright from thunder or convulsions of the four limbs; when it appears at the middle position, it is often due to fright and convulsions of the four limbs, with irritability and confusion occurring when thirsty; when it appears at the lower position, it is often the root of repeated fright. If the cyan pulse appears in all three positions (upper, middle, lower), the prognosis is poor, with only one in ten patients surviving.
**Red Pulse:** When the red pulse appears at the upper position, it is often due to wind pathogen entering and staying in the Lung, accompanied by fever and frequent coughing; when it appears at the middle position, it is often due to wind pathogen entering the Heart, accompanied by intestinal pain and frequent passage of green stools; when it appears at the lower position, it is often severe fright injuring the root organ, and regulating the Heart will yield miraculous results. If the red pulse appears in all three positions, it is difficult to treat, and an open mouth with drooping eyes indicates a ominous sign.
**Black Pulse:** When the black pulse appears at the upper position, it is often due to transmission from the Kidney, with eyes staring upward (two distinct conditions need careful differentiation), and stool containing feces mixed with green color; when it appears at the middle position, symptoms resemble Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome); when it appears at the lower position, if accompanied by redness, there is frequent diarrhea with Qi descending (Chao Jin Dan should be administered). If the black pulse appears in all three positions, observe the hands; if deficiency vexation, dryness, and thirst are present, seek medical treatment immediately.

- Upper red indicates wind entering and staying in the Lung, or coming with fever and frequent coughing; middle indicates wind entering the Heart, with frequent intestinal pain and passage of green stools.
- Lower red indicates severe fright seeing the root organ; merely regulating the Heart has miraculous efficacy; upper and lower together are difficult to treat; open mouth and downward eyes indicate ominous signs.
- Upper cyan indicates Liver origin retention, with closed eyes, body pain, and soft four limbs; middle indicates water diarrhea and repeated blows, with heat causing wheezing and coughing without rest (Zhusha Gao may be administered).
- Lower cyan is due to repeated fright; wonderful medicines promote Wind and reduce disaster; if upper and lower are both cyan with fever, cold extremities indicate approaching death.
- Upper black time, eyes stare upward (viewed in two ways), stool flows with feces and green color; middle appearance resembles Xiao Ke; lower heat, yellow urine, and peaceful bowels.
- Lower black if seen with accompanying red, Qi mostly descends with diarrhea as described (administer Chao Jin Dan); upper and lower same requires looking at hands; deficiency vexation, dryness, and thirst require seeking doctors quickly.

- Middle Guan if red, then mostly Wind-Heat (also administer Jiefeng Ge medicine).
- Lower Guan if red, fever, Large Intestine idle accumulation.
- Upper Guan seeing this black pulse, it is the Kidney pulse as favorable; if Large Intestine is constipated, it is a sign of generating Wind (administer Zhusha Gao);
- Middle Guan black pulse, sign of generating Wind, not an ominous sign (administer Zhonghuang Gao);

- Upper Guan black, and under-eye black, children under two years old, getting this pulse and signs, and Large Intestine flow, or body strong heat, complete ones must be thirsty. If lower fever, or no thirst, resolve it to recover. (First administer Tianzhu Huang San, then administer Zhusha Gao)
- Black pulse chaotic, abdominal distension is the sign. Or lower pain, is accumulation sign. (Administer Xuanfeng Wan San, next administer Yunqi San to harmonize Stomach Qi)
- One day red pulse chaotic is blow/trauma, (stop administering Zhenxin Wan, and Dajing Wan San,) pulse penetrates Middle Guan, immediately changes to Wind sign, taboo, (do not use transforming medicines.) Injury deficiency moving Spleen generating reverse vomiting is ominous sign, use Yunqi San to tonify deficiency.
- If first day sees this pulse, three Guan all see, is Five Zang response. Illness if second day, Middle Guan part faintly, or lower see. Only Middle Guan see, mostly external signs. If three Guan all see, or faintly, or face floating, is Jing Qi sign, constantly faintly, does not exchange out/in, several decades die.
- If left hand upper pulse curves inward, is injury accumulation, (administer Baotong Wan.) Curve outward is external Wind, touching immediately causes convulsions, (administer Zhenjing Wan San.) Middle Guan if curving inward, is external Wind transmission, (administer Tiaozhong San to resolve.) Curve outward is ominous sign, curve sign passes Ming Guan, and outside ominous signs arise is ominous sign.
- Upper Guan pulse chaotic, injury cold illness, (administer Yunqi San.) Middle pulse chaotic, Wind injures heat, transmits Wind prosperous disease, (administer Wuxi Gao, use promoting/discharging medicines to detail.) Lower Guan if chaotic, urgently must administer warming Spleen, if lower eating food ominous sign.
- These two double-finger Guan, if seeing Cyan and Red mixed like purple, no Black is ominous sign. Upper Guan pulse seeing Shanghan, must develop coughing, must release exterior, slightly floating entering Middle Guan, is Wind sign, (administer Qingjin Gao.) Lower Guan if seeing, frequent retreat is auspicious, non-retreat is ominous sign. If child from Qi Guan transmits to Ming Guan, then can regulate treatment. Above secrets, for sacred physicians, these predecessors' messages, later learners, should carefully deduce.
