Answer: Body itching is caused by the body's deficiency and susceptibility to wind pathogen. The wind pathogen enters the *Couli* (interstices of skin and hair follicles), struggles with the *Qi* and blood, and moves together within the skin. Because the evil qi is scattered and cannot strike to cause pain, it only manifests as itching. Zhang Zhongjing stated: "Itching is named 'Leaking Qi Wind'; over time it becomes scabs and leprosy-like lesions." This is also due to bodily deficiency and contraction of wind evil.
Huma San (Sesame Powder): Treats wind-toxin of the Spleen and Lung attacking the whole body, causing skin itching, or generating sores and scabies, or urticaria. When scratched, it oozes fluid forming ulcers; if left untreated for a long time, it does not heal and recurs after healing. It treats facial wandering wind, sensations like insects crawling, purpura, vitiligo, stubborn numbness, and other wind syndromes, or Kidney wind attacking the legs and knees causing sores. All are suitable for this prescription.
Ingredients: Sesame seed (3 liang), Sophora flavescens root (2 liang), Polygonum multiflorum (2 liang, washed), Licorice root (0.5 liang, honey-fried), Schizonepeta spike (3 liang), Clematis root (1.5 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, administered with mint decoction or tea after meals. Alternatively, administer with wine mixed with honey water. After taking the medicine, frequent bathing to induce sweating will yield immediate results.
Kushen Wan (Sophora Pill): Treats accumulated heat in the Heart and Lung, Kidney wind-toxin attacking the skin, frequently generating sores and scabies with unbearable itching, occasional discharge of yellow fluid, and severe wind diseases causing limb ulceration and eyebrow loss. It treats all such wind disorders.
Ingredients: Sophora flavescens root (4 liang), Schizonepeta spike (3 liang, stems removed).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Use water paste to form pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, swallowed with good tea or Schizonepeta decoction after meals.
Answer: Humans have five Zang organs, each containing seven spirits (Shen). When Zang Qi is abundant, the spirits are strong, and external evil or ghosts cannot invade. If cultivation and regulation are improper, leading to deficiency and decline of Qi and blood, ghostly evils invade and damage. Thus, women often dream of sexual intercourse with ghosts. The symptoms include aversion to seeing people, feeling as if confronting someone, speaking and laughing alone, or weeping at times. The pulse comes slowly or intermittently like a bird pecking, and the complexion remains unchanged; these are all signs of disease caused by evil entities. It is said that among palace personnel, nuns, and widows, there are cases of dreaming of intercourse with ghosts. The evil qi lingers, eventually forming masses (Jia) or ghost fetuses, which occurs frequently.
Fushen San (Poria cocos Decoction): Treats wind-deficiency in women, ghost-spirit intercourse, hallucinations, and disordered speech.
Ingredients: Poria cocos with hostwood (1.5 liang), Poria cocos, Ginseng root, Acorus tatarinowii rhizome (each 1 liang), Adzuki bean (0.5 liang).
Chop the above ingredients. Take 3 qian per dose, add 1.5 cups of water, decoct until reduced to 0.6 cup, remove dregs, and take warm before meals.
Treats women with ghost-spirit intercourse, speaking and laughing alone, weeping or ruminating, singing ballads, or acting trance-like.
Ingredients: Pine resin (3 liang, stir-fried), Realgar (1 liang, ground to powder).
Mix the two ingredients thoroughly using tiger claws (metaphorical for thorough mixing), form pills the size of bullets. At night, burn them in a cage. Have the woman sit naked on the cage, covering herself but leaving the head exposed. Three fumigations will cure it.
Prime Minister Qin’s Moxibustion Method: Treats fox-spirit possession, divine evil, and manic-depressive illness refractory to other treatments. Bind both thumbs together tightly with green silk thread. Perform three moxa cones (Zhuang). Place moxa at four points around the thumb tip, half on the nail and half on the flesh, encircling completely. If any point is missed, the disease will not be cured. This method is extremely effective. For infantile congenital epilepsy or convulsive epilepsy, apply this method uniformly; one moxa cone should be wheat-sized. It is also excellent for pregnancy-related epilepsy. Yellow Emperor’s Moxibustion Method: Treats divine evil, ghosts, manic-depressive illness, and speech lacking respect for hierarchy. Moxa one cone on the central fleshy ridge inside the upper lip. The moxa cone should be wheat-grain sized. Cutting with a steel knife afterward is even better.
