I found this prescription ineffective when I used it, so I added Bai He (Lilii Bulbus), Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, heart removed), Ban Xia Qu (Pinelliae Fermentatum), and Kuan Dong Hua (Farfarae Flos), each 1 liang. It proved highly effective.

This is a formula from Mr. Xu Yuanlin. In July of the Yimao year, I treated a woman who had incessant coughing which was unresponsive to various medicines, gradually developing into Lao Zhai (consumptive disease resembling tuberculosis). Upon examination, her six pulses were soft and weak. Based on my analysis, this was caused by blood deficiency compounded by excessive sorrow and grief. Treatment with Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Radix) and other herbs would surely cure it. Thus, I first administered Ju Pi Tang (Tangerine Peel Decoction) from *Gu Jin Lu Yan*, followed by Su Zi Jiang Qi Tang (Perilla Seed Decoction for Descending Qi) taken on an empty stomach, and subsequently regulated her condition with Jin Chai Jian (Gold Orchid Decoction), Shu Di Huang Wan (Prepared Rehmannia Pill), and Dang Gui Wan (Angelica Pill), leading to recovery.
I also treated a woman suffering from epidemic heat-induced cough. I used Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction), removing Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus), adding only Bei Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus). She recovered after decoction and administration.
