If the fetus has died in the uterus, and Cold Qi rushes upward causing nausea, vomiting, and a bluish complexion, treatment should follow the guidelines in the section "Threatened Miscarriage."
Another formula: Treats fetal Qi rushing upward with heat pain and bleeding, or severe restlessness and distress. Use twenty stalks of Congbai (Allii Fistulosum Bulbus), boil them thickly in water, and drink. If the fetus is alive, it calms the fetus; if dead, it expels the dead fetus. If ineffective, take again. If there is threatened miscarriage with irritability, bluish-black lips and mouth, and cold extremities, Danggui Tang (Angelica Decoction) must be used. (Note: Congbai, pungent and neutral in nature, can not only reach the exterior and interior but also unblock Yang, invigorate blood, induce sweating, and promote diuresis. Some versions of this formula include Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma); others involve cooking Congbai with rice in silver vessels to make porridge or soup, which can be referenced).
Danggui Tang (Angelica Decoction) from *Liangfang* (see *Furen Gui Ancient Formulas*) treats threatened miscarriage with irritability, physiological irregularity, bluish-black lips and mouth, and cold extremities.
Ingredients: Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, each 2-3 qian), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, stir-fried), Gancao (Licorice Root, stir-fried, each 1 qian), Lian Gen Congbai (Allii Fistulosum Bulbus with roots, one handful).
Take the above ingredients, add four bowls of water, and decoct the first four ingredients until half the water remains. Remove the dregs, add the Congbai, and decoct until one bowl remains. Divide into two doses.
