搐,是指两手伸缩;
搦,是指十指开合;
掣,是指态势如同相扑般拉扯;
颤,是指头部偏斜不正;
反,是指身体后仰;
引,是指手臂张开如拉弓;
窜,是指目光直视似愤怒;
[Chapter on Convulsions / Rubbing the Elbow]
For fetal convulsion, tidal fever convulsion, and monthly convulsion. For umbilical wind (neonatal tetanus) and clenched mouth, apply treatment to the Dui Feng Na acupoint. For diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal distension, intestinal coiling (pan chang), and food stagnation affected by wind pathogen. Horse-tail twitching is addressed with Crucian Carp decoction for wind-cold fright; Dan Shou (hands gripping as if carrying a load) is actually caused by water pathogen.
Uneven cold and heat belong to Su Sha syndrome. Acute or chronic internal pulling involves heart and spleen pathogens. Tian Diao (opisthotonos) and bending bow involve liver and gallbladder diseases. Snake silk, eagle claws, and Wu Sha (darkening of the pupils). Crow-like night crying involves other symptoms. Suo Xin (locked heart/consciousness obstruction) and Sa Shou (loose hands) are caused by fire pathogen.
The manifestations of convulsions must be recognized. Skillful hands can gently push and disperse them.
When infants have heat, excessive heat generates fright; excessive fright generates spasms; further excess leads to locked jaw, giving rise to the "Eight Signs" (Ba Hou). The Eight Signs are: Chu (spasm), Nuo (clenching), Che (twitching/pulling), Chan (trembling), Fan (reversal/opisthotonos), Yin (drawing/arcing), Cuan (darting), and Shi (gazing).
Chu refers to the extension and flexion of both hands.
Nuo refers to the opening and closing of the ten fingers.
Che refers to the posture resembling wrestling (pulling/tugging).
Chan refers to the head tilting abnormally.
Fan refers to the body arching backward.
Yin refers to the arms extending like drawing a bow.
Cuan refers to the eyes staring straight as if in anger.
Shi refers to the eyes showing whites and lacking mobility.
These are called the Eight Signs. The four main syndromes are Fright, Wind, Phlegm, and Heat.
Fetal Convulsion: When a newborn first lands on the ground, the limbs may be soft or stiff, the eyes do not open or show light, there is no crying, and consciousness is absent. This is due to fright received in the womb, named Fetal Convulsion.
Treatment Method: Push San Guan (80 times), Divide Yin Yang (100 times), Retreat Liu Fu (100 times), Tonify Pi Tu (Spleen Earth) (100 times), Move Wu Jing (Five Meridians) (24 times), Fei Jing Zou Qi (Flying Meridians Moving Qi), Tian Men Ru Hu Kou (Heaven's Gate into Tiger's Mouth) (20 times).
Monthly Convulsion: After birth, the infant has red eyes, a clenched mouth, and a tilted head, clenching fists in both left and right hands, unable to cry. This is due to heat-toxin in the womb or wind invasion within the first month, with phlegm surging to the heart region, named Monthly Convulsion.
Treatment Method: Push San Guan (24 times), Move Ba Gua (Eight Trigrams), Push Si Heng Wen (Four Transverse Creases) (50 times), Shuang Long Bai Wei (Two Dragons Waving Tails), Rub Qi (Navel) and Gui Wei (Tailbone) (50 times), Pinch Zhong Zhi Jie (Middle Finger Joint), Clear Nei Lao Gong (Inner Laogong), Men Tao Zhi (Piercing/Gate Grasping technique).
Apply moxibustion (fire lamp) 7 times on the blue vein seam. Apply moxibustion 7 times above the navel for rapid breathing.
Tidal Fever Convulsion: The infant has a hot body, loud breathing, thirst, red eyes, and twitching/jumping of the four limbs. It is caused by food injury and cold invasion, named Tidal Fever Convulsion.
Treatment Method: Push San Guan (100 times), Clear Fei Jing (Lung Meridian) (100 times), Divide Yin Yang (100 times), Tui Shan Men (Push Mountain Gate) (20 times). If sweating occurs, add Retreat Liu Fu (100 times), Clear Xin Jing (Heart Meridian) (120 times).
