[Xue Ji] The Qi of all Yang meridians in the human body converges at the head and gathers on the face. If sores or ulcers occur, it is due to disharmony of the Zang-Fu organs and stagnation of Qi and Blood in the Yang meridians. This may be caused by congenital Kidney Yin deficiency with Liver Fire hyperactivity, exposure to fetal toxin from the mother, the wet nurse's exposure to the Six Exogenous Pathogens (Six Evils) or emotional injuries, the wet nurse consuming rich and greasy food and strong wine, or the infant eating sweet, fatty, and strong-flavored foods. Since the causes differ, one must distinguish the affected meridian and examine the etiology to treat accordingly.
If the sore appears at the outer canthus of the eye, anterior to the ear, upper cheek, reaching the nose and inner canthus, it belongs to the Small Intestine Meridian.
If the sore appears on the vertex, lower jaw near the temple, behind the ear, and left/right sides of the back of the head, it belongs to the Gallbladder Meridian.
If the sore appears on the front of the cheek, nostrils, and left/right sides of the philtrum, it belongs to the Large Intestine Meridian.
If the sore appears on both sides of the nostrils, lower lip, Chengjiang point (CV24), Jiache point (ST6) behind the ear, hairline anterior to the ear, and forehead/skull, it belongs to the Stomach Meridian.
If the sore appears above the inner canthus, on the tip of the forehead, extending to the back of the head and nape, it belongs to the Bladder Meridian.
Having identified the meridian, treatment should be differentiated. For those with congenital Kidney Fire (deficiency fire), use Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Kidney). For fetal toxin, use Xijiao Xiaodu Wan (see previous text). For food accumulation and malnutrition (Gan syndrome), use Siwei Fei'er Wan (Gan). For issues caused by the wet nurse's rich diet, use Dongyuan Qingwei San (Teeth). Since diseases of the Fu organs inevitably involve the Zang organs:
Sore on the forehead belongs to the Heart Meridian. Fever with craving for cold drinks indicates Excess Heat; use Daochi San (Heart). Fever with craving for hot drinks indicates Deficiency Heat; use Yangxin Tang.
Sore on the left cheek belongs to the Liver Meridian. Accompanied by neck stiffness indicates Excess Heat; use Chaihu Qinggan San (Heat). Teeth grinding and restlessness indicate Deficiency Heat; use Liuwei Dihuang Wan.
Sore on the right cheek belongs to the Lung Meridian. Wheezing, coughing, and craving for cold drinks indicate Excess Heat; use Xiebai San (Lung). Fever and cough indicate Fire insulting Metal (Heart Fire insulting Lung); use Renshen Pingfei San (Cough).
Sore on the nose belongs to the Stomach Meridian. Fever, craving for cold drinks, and yellow/hard stool indicate Excess Heat; use Xiehuang San (Spleen). Fever, craving for hot drinks, and green/white stool indicate Deficiency Heat; use Yigong San.
Sore on the chin and earlobes belongs to the Bladder Meridian. The Kidney has no Excess patterns; only use Dihuang Wan.
If the ulcer has ruptured and fails to heal for a long time, one must examine the imbalance of Zang organ Qi and the transmission of pathogenic factors, focusing primarily on regulating and tonifying the Spleen and Stomach. If the disease is caused by residual heat from the wet nurse, treating the mother first will cure the infant spontaneously.
Yangxin Tang: Treats sores and ulcers caused by Heart Qi deficiency and ascending Deficiency Heat.

[Head Sores]
Pediatric head sores are caused by toxic heat invading the Six Yang meridians and attacking the head. If patches appear on the head, often dry and itchy, with sparse hair resembling dandruff, this is due to accumulated heat attacking upward, named Tuo Chuang (Baldness Sores). Although the sore is on the head, people only know to apply external medicine for healing. However, within ten days to a month, the sore recurs. Why? Because the head is the convergence point of all Yang meridians. In the *Hongfan*, the element Fire flares upward. Toxic heat attacks upward, and two Yangs scorch each other, so sores arise on the head. The method should resolve chronic accumulated heat and guide away irritability from the Heart Meridian.
[Worldly Physicians] To treat chronic tinea capitis: Apply fine Huanglian powder externally. Internally, take Kushen Wan after meals. Externally, apply Kushen powder mixed with oil. It heals in two months.
[Danyu] Another prescription: Use Fangfeng Tongsheng San processed with wine. Remove Dahuang, grind separately into powder, moisten with wine, dry, and grind again. Take 1 qian, decoct in water, take 4-5 times daily. Effective after 30 doses.
Another prescription:

Cut into pieces. Decoct and take, divided into 4-5 doses. Sleep for a while after taking.
For pediatric tinea capitis: Wash with hot water heated by red-hot charcoal. Then apply pig fat decocted with Yuanxu Zi (Coriandri Fructus), strained.
Another method: Grind Huxu Zi (Coriandri Fructus), Fulonggan (Dragon's House Earth), Xuanlongwei (Scolopendra), Huanglian, and Baifan into powder, mix with oil, and apply.
Head Sore Prescription:
Zhuyou (Pig Fat, 1 qian, half raw half cooked), Xionghuang (Realgar), Shuiyin (Hydrargyrum) [each 2.5 qian].
Grind and mix evenly, apply to the sore.
Another prescription: Treats pediatric tinea capitis and body tinea. Mix pine bark ash, Baijiaoxiang (Colophony), Gufan (Calcined Alumen), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), and yellow asphalt for topical application. Another prescription: Apply horse fat from the twelfth lunar month for excellent results.
[Jian] Head sores: Burn large bamboo husks to ash. Mix ash with raw oil according to the size of the sore for application. Adding Nifen (Calomel) is better.
*Milu* treats various sores on the head and body of infants: Burn chicken eggshells and mix with pig fat for application.
[Worldly Physicians] To treat tinea capitis:
Songxiang (Pini Resina, 1 liang, melt in a dry wok, place on stone, cool, and finely grind), Heilongwei (House dust hanging from eaves), Huangdan (Minium) [each 3 qian], Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, half liang), Songsongpi (Pine Bark, burnt to ash but retaining nature), Shuiyin (Hydrargyrum), Xionghuang (Realgar), Baifan (Alumen) [each 2 qian].
Grind into powder. Fry Xueyu (Human Hair) in sesame oil until soft, mix, and apply to the lesion.
Eel Attack Head Sore Prescription:
Use Baiduiban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum), roasted with butter, ground into powder. Mix with a little Feimian (Washed Wheat Flour) and oil. Apply to the top of the head. Leave holes to vent toxins. Do not make the mixture too runny.
[Facial Sores]
[Worldly Physicians] To treat pediatric facial sores where the entire face is ulcerated with no intact skin, pus flowing freely, and unresponsive to hundreds of medicines: Apply aged lard from the twelfth lunar month, unsalted. This is miraculous.
