What is the reason for the inversion (abnormality) of the pupil? The answer is: It indicates damage to all five Zang organs. Externally, it is caused by the five colors [visual stimuli or pathogenic factors associated with colors]; internally, it is caused by the five flavors [dietary preferences]. This leads to the reckless flow of essence and fluids, resulting in the depletion of Kidney Water, which subsequently damages the Lung and Liver. Thus, one knows that the five Zang organs are damaged. It is appropriate to apply Zhenzhu Hu Ye Gao (Pearl Tiger Liquid Ointment) and take Juhua Wan (Chrysanthemum Pill).

What is the reason for a green membrane obscuring the eye? The answer is: The eyes are the source of Kidney Water and the residence of spirit and consciousness. Accumulated heat in the five Zang organs causes stagnation of Qi and Blood, which impacts the Liver Wood [Liver system], resulting in a green membrane obscuring vision. It is appropriate to apply Qinglong Hupo Gao (Azure Dragon Amber Ointment) and take Xigan San (Liver-Washing Powder).

What is the reason for the yellowing of the pupil? The answer is: This is Huang Feng Nei Zhang (Yellow Wind Internal Obstruction). In the changes of the Five Elements, ascending and descending movements are primary. If Qi and Blood are weak and stagnant, they cannot nourish the eyes, causing the pupil to appear yellow. It is appropriate to apply Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder) and take Jiaohong Wan (Pepper Red Pill).

What is the reason for scattered white stars in the eyes, accompanied by dizziness, blurred vision, and darkness? The answer is: This is due to the decline of Qi and Blood. Qi and Blood circulate through the hundred vessels; when the hundred vessels decline, the Qi of the Six Yang channels rises upward, causing dizziness in the head. When blood vessels do not flow smoothly, white stars are generated, leading to blurred and dark vision. It is appropriate to take Chuanwu San (Chuanwu Powder) and apply Tuiyun San (Cloud-Pushing Powder). (Formula see Question 14)
