What is the cause of redness and pain in the outer canthus (large corner) of the eye? The answer is: Heart Excess. The outer canthus belongs to the Heart, representing the Fire position in the South. When Heart Fire is hyperactive, it causes redness and pain in the outer canthus. It is appropriate to apply Qinglong Gao (Green Dragon Ointment), and take Xixin San (Mind-Washing Powder) and Sanhuang Tang (Three Yellows Decoction).
Xixin San (This formula name appears in Question 2 and Question 62, but the ingredients differ.)

(All in equal parts, ground into fine powder).
Take this powder three times a day.
Sanhuang Tang Treats symptoms such as profuse hot tears, gritty pain in the eyes, photophobia, and swollen eyelids. Use:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex). (All in equal parts, stir-fried).
Decoct in water and take orally.
What is the cause of redness in the inner canthus (small corner) of the eye? The answer is: Heart Deficiency. The Heart belongs to Fire, and Fire generates Earth; thus, Fire is the mother of Earth. If Earth becomes excessive, Heart Fire becomes deficient, just as a plump child indicates a thin mother.
It is appropriate to apply Huye Zhenzhu Hupo Gao (Tiger Fluid Pearl Amber Ointment) and take Buxin San (Heart-Nourishing Powder).
Buxin San Treats persistent pain.

What is the cause of abundant white nebula (leukoma) in the eyes? The answer is: The Lung belongs to Metal, and Metal generates Water. If Water becomes excessively hyperactive, a wind-membrane may appear on the face, blocking the orifices of the Lung. This leads to the loss of essence, causing the Lung Qi to sink and fall off. (The term "Fei Tuoluo" [Lung sinking/falling] is rare in other books and remains under suspicion/verification). Because the Lung becomes dry and hard, Qi stagnation results in the formation of nebula. If Metal is not vigorous, it cannot generate Water; if Water cannot nourish the Lung, dryness diseases will also occur. It is appropriate to apply Zhenzhu Gao (Pearl Ointment) and take Bufei San (Lung-Nourishing Powder) and Xixin San. (Note: The name Xixin San appears in various contexts with different ingredients. The specific formula is not listed here to avoid misuse, and since the pathology involves the Lung, the previous Xixin San seems less suitable for this context).
