Qianjin Zi Wan (Thousand Gold Purple Pill): Treats fever that does not resolve during the "bianzheng" (developmental fever) period in infants. It also treats cases complicated by cold damage or warm diseases where heat persists after sweating, as well as phlegm accumulation in the abdomen causing refusal to nurse and vomiting upon feeding. It addresses food-induced epilepsy characterized by initial chills followed by fever.
Formula: Hongshizhi (Red Halloysite), Daizheshi (Hematite) (each 1 liang), Badou (Croton Seed) (30 grains, oil removed), Xingren (Apricot Kernel) (50 seeds, skin and tip removed).
The above four ingredients are ground into powder. A small amount of honey is added, and it is stored in a sealed container. For a 30-day-old infant, administer one pill the size of a hemp seed with a small amount of breast milk. Feed milk again after a short while, but do not overfeed. Within half a day, mild diarrhea should occur, eliminating the heat.
For a 100-day-old infant, administer one pill the size of a mung bean. In summer when heat is prevalent and rashes are prone to appear, use with caution. Qianjin Zi Wan treats all conditions; although it has a purgative effect, it does not damage healthy qi.
Qianjin Hei San (Thousand Gold Black Powder): Treats "bianzheng" complicated by epidemic warm diseases, or epidemic diseases contracted outside the "bianzheng" period.
Formula: Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) (cleaned powder, 2 qian), Xingren (Apricot Kernel) (separately ground, 2 qian), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (cleaned powder, 1 qian).
The above three ingredients are mixed evenly and stored in a sealed container. For a one-month-old infant, administer one pill the size of a mung bean, mixed with breast milk. Hold the infant to induce sweating. After sweating, apply "wenfen" (warm powder) and avoid wind exposure. For a 100-day-old infant, administer one pill the size of a jujube pit.
Wenfen Formula: Use Longgu (Fossilized Bones) and Muli (Oyster Shell) ground into fine powder equally. Take 3 qian of the clean powder, add 3 qian of Shenghuang (Astragali Radix) powder, and mix with 1 liang of Jingmi (Rice) flour. Wrap in thin silk and gently dust onto the body.
Da Liaoqiao Tang (Great Forsythia Decoction): Treats damp-toxin by promoting urination.
Formula: Liaoqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Qumai (Dianthi Herba), Cheqian (Plantaginis Semen), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Huashi (Talcum), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (each 1 qian), Chantui (Cicadae Periostracum), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (wine-fried), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus) (charred black), Gancao (Licorice Root) (roasted, each 7 fen).
Decoct in water and take hot before meals. If heat is severe, add Jiudahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma processed with wine). Use a small dose for infants. Removing Shanzhi and adding Zicao (Arnebiae Radix) from this formula creates Liaoqiao Fangfeng Tang, which treats heat-toxin obstruction from smallpox/rash with urinary retention.
Gouteng San (Uncaria Powder): Treats fetal fright and night crying.
Formula: Goutenggou (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Fuling (Poria), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 1 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (roasted, 5 fen).
Grind into powder. Each dose is 1 qianbi, decocted with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus). For heat in the Heart channel manifesting as red face, remove Muxiang and add a small amount of Zhusha (Cinnabar). For convulsions, add Xiewei (Scorpion tail, 5 fen).
Liuhua San (Willow Flower Powder): Treats mouth ulcers with redness and erosion.
Formula: Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (fried, ground fine), Puhuang (Typhae Pollen), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Renzhongbai (Calcinatus Human Excrement) (calcined, equal parts).
Grind into powder. Add a small amount of Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) before use, grind again, and apply to the lesion.
Chen Gao (Cinnabar Paste): Treats locked jaw, closed eyes, inability to cry, and undigested vomit.
Formula: Chencha (Cinnabar), Yaxiao (Natrii Sulfas) (each 1 qian), Pengsha (Borax), Quanxie (Scorpion) (each 5 fen), Zhenzhu (Pearl), Shexiang (Moschus) (each 3 fen).
Grind into fine powder, mix with raw white honey to form a paste. Use an amount the size of a bean, taken down with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction). For tidal fever, take with Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction). For infants within one month, apply to the nipple for the infant to suckle.
Huhuanglian Wan (Coptis Pill): Treats heat-type gan syndrome.
Formula: Huhuanglian (Picrorhizae Rhizoma), Chuanhuanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (each ban liang), Zhusha (Cinnabar) (2 qian, separately ground).
Grind into powder, fill into pig gallbladders, tie with thread, and hang in a pot. Boil in sour water for several boils. Remove, add Lulu (Aloe) and Shexiang (Moschus) (each 2 qian), and make pills with rice paste, sized like hemp seeds. Each dose is 10-20 pills, taken down with rice soup. If parasites are present in heat-type gan, remove Zhusha and add Wuyi (Myristica Seed), Heshi (Chrysanthemi Indici Herba), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), and Leiwan (Polyporus Umbellatus).
Xixin Method (Application to Fontanelle): Treats convulsions in infants within 100 days.
Formula: Shexiang (Moschus) (1 fen), Xiewei (Scorpion tail), Wugong (Centipede) (roasted, feet removed, each 5 fen), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) (3 fen), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) (3 fen), Boheye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium) (3 fen).
Except for Niuhuang, crush the other five ingredients separately and take the clean powder. Then finely grind Niuhuang. Mix with boiled red date pulp to form a paste. Apply on cotton and stick to the fontanelle, leaving about one finger's width exposed around the edges. Warm with hand and frequently moxa/iron.
Mizhi Anshen Wan (Secret Instruction Calming Spirit Pill): Treats deficiency heat in the Heart channel, palpitations and night crying during sleep.
Formula: Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Zaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (processed, each 1 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) (each 7 fen), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) (7 grains), Gancao (Licorice Root) (roasted, 3 fen).
Grind into powder, mix with Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice) to form pills the size of Erythrinae Semen. Each dose is one pill, dissolved and taken with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction).
Daqing Gao (Great Green Paste): Treats convulsions, vomiting, diarrhea, and warm body.
Formula: Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) (1.5 qian), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) (2 qian), Baifuzi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Rhizoma), Ganxie (Dry Scorpion) (de-toxicated, each 3 qian), Wushaoshe Rou (Zaocys Flesh) (wine-boiled, dried, 3 qian), Tianzhuhuang (Calculus Budhalae) (2 qian), Shexiang (Moschus) (3 fen), Zhusha (Cinnabar) (purified, 5 fen).

Gouteng Yin (Uncaria Infusion): Treats spleen deficiency with wind invasion, warm body with cold feet, impending slow convulsion.
Formula: Goutenggou (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Chantui (Cicadae Periostracum), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Baijiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus) (fried), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Xiewei (Scorpion tail) (de-toxicated, each 5 fen), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gancao (Licorice Root) (roasted, each 3 fen), Shexiang (Moschus) (1 fen, separately ground).
Decoct in water, take warm in two or three doses. Author's note: Slow convulsion is caused by spleen and stomach deficiency. The previous formulas are acrid-warm exterior-dispersing agents without tonifying effects; they must be used with caution. Xu Yongcheng stated that for spleen deficiency with wind invasion, warm body, cold feet, and impending slow convulsion, use Gouteng Yin. However, it is suitable only if stool is solid. If there is vomiting, diarrhea, phlegm reversal, no high fever, and cold limbs, use Wuxie Liujun Wan. This infusion is not suitable.
Baolong Wan (Bureau Formula): Treats acute convulsion.
Formula: Chendan Nanting (Areca Seed Processed with Bile) (1 liang), Tianzhuhuang (Calculus Budhalae) (3 qian), Chencha (Cinnabar) (purified, half for formula, half for coating), Xionghuang (Realgar) (each 1.5 qian), Shexiang (Moschus) (5 fen).
The above five ingredients are ground into powder, made into pills with Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction) the size of soap pod seeds, coated with Chencha. Each dose is one pill, dissolved in Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction). Recovery occurs after vomiting thick phlegm. For convulsions due to rash, remove Chencha and replace with Hupo (Amber) (3 qian).
Lijing Wan (Relieve Convulsion Pill): Treats acute convulsion with fever, wheezing, abdominal distension, and constipation.
Formula: Tianzhuhuang (Calculus Budhalae), Qingfen (Calomelas), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) (each 1 qian), Heiqianniu (Morning Glory Seed) (head end, lightly fried, 3 qian).
Grind into powder, make pills with honey the size of pea seeds. One-year-old infants take one pill, dissolved in Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction).
Qianghuo San (Notopterygium Powder) (also known as Renshen Qianghuo San): Treats cold damage with fright and heat.
Formula: Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duohuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Guangpi (Tangerine Peel), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (equal parts), Gancao (Licorice Root) (half part).
Grind into powder. Each dose is 1-2 qian, add one slice of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and five leaves of Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium). Decoct in water, strain, and take slightly warm. Mild sweating indicates efficacy.
Qianjin Shegan Tang (Thousand Gold Belamcanda Decoction): Treats infant fever, wheezing, cough, and "water chicken sound" (phlegm rattle) in the throat.
Formula: Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Ziwan (Asteri Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (each 1 qian), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (one slice), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) (three pieces).
The above eight ingredients are decocted in water and divided into three doses. If heat resolves but wheezing and cough persist, remove Mahuang, Shegan, and Dazao, and add Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Kuandong (Farfarae Flos), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), and Baimi (White Honey).
Qianjin Longdan Tang (Thousand Gold Gentian Decoction): Treats newborns with strong blood vessels and qi, alternating cold and heat, limb convulsions, high fever, and severe vomiting. Also treats indigestion, high fever, and developmental convulsions/epilepsy in infants who can feed.
Formula: Longdan (Gentianae Radix), Goutenggou (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 1 qian), Pianlang (Scarabaeus) (two insects), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (3 qian).
The above ten ingredients are decocted in one sheng of water until reduced to five he. For infants aged 1-7 days, divide one he into three doses. For 8-15 days, divide 1.5 he into three doses. For 16-20 days, divide two he into three doses. For 21-30 days, divide three he into three doses. For 31-40 days, use all five he divided into three doses, then stop. Do not continue administration.
Yihuang San (Benefit Yellow Powder) (Bureau Formula): Treats spleen deficiency with undigested milk and food.
Formula: Chenpi (Tangerine Peel) (1 liang), Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel), Hezi Rou (Arecae Pericarpium) (roasted), Gancao (Licorice Root) (roasted, each ban liang), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) (2 qian).
Grind into powder. Each dose is 2-3 qian, decocted in water. Or mix with brown sugar and take 1 qian. Yihuang San does not tonify the middle jiao directly but uses Chenpi and Qingpi to dispel stale qi, a subtle principle. For chronic diarrhea with food stagnation, these two peels regulate liver and spleen, Hezi secures downward leakage, Dingxiang warms the middle, and Gancao harmonizes spleen qi. This embodies the method of tonification within purgation. Only those who understand this can discuss supreme treatment.
Feier Wan (Flesh-Enriching Pill) (Bureau Formula): Treats food stagnation and five types of gan syndrome, neck lumps, thin arms, sparse hair, fever with thirst, mouth gan, eye nebula, white urine, large abdomen with visible veins.
Formula: Roudoukou (Myristica Seed) (roasted), Shijunzi (Quisqualis Fructus) (shelled, roasted), Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus) (fried), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (fried with ginger juice until black), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) (fried, each 5 liang), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (20 seeds, avoid fire), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (2 liang, avoid fire).
The above seven ingredients are ground into powder, mixed with steamed cake dough and a little white honey, formed into pills the size of bullet seeds. Each dose is one pill, taken on an empty stomach with rice drink. (Wang Shishan added Baizhu 5 liang, Shanzha 2 liang, Zhishi 2 liang). Modern versions often include Huhuanglian, Leiwan, Wuyi, etc., which are bitter-cold and damage yuan qi. The original intent was to clear gan heat and reduce liver excess to eliminate stagnation, restoring yuan qi so the child becomes healthy. Taking it without gan heat is like inviting thieves to destroy the home. Many wealthy families have children develop steaming fever and cough by age ten due to true yang deficiency from long-term use. This custom is widespread and misunderstood, so I highlight it here.
Jiawei Xianxiong Wan (Modified Chest-Trap Pill): Treats phlegm accumulation, fullness, gan heat, wheezing, and cough.
Formula: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (ginger juice fried), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (ginger processed), Gualou Shi (Trichosanthis Fructus), Yanxiao (Saltpeter) (each 3 qian), Qingfen (Calomelas) (2.5 qian), Huashi (Talcum) (purified, 1 liang).

Chanyu Wan (Toad Pill): Treats innocent gan syndrome.
Formula: Chanyu (Bufo Skin) (large ones, several).
Place three scoops of maggot larvae in a bucket, soak in urine. Crush live toads and feed to maggots for one day and night. Collect maggots in a cloth bag, rinse in fast-flowing water, dry on tiles, add a little Shexiang (Moschus), and make pills with old rice the size of hemp seeds. Each dose is 20-30 pills, taken with rice soup or sugar water. First dose reduces deficiency heat, second stops thirst, third stops diarrhea. Alternatively, roast old rice into powder, mix with rock sugar, and eat as cakes.
Maming San (Horse Cry Powder): Treats mouth and tongue ulcers, post-smallpox gan erosion.
Formula: Renzhongbai (Calcinatus Human Excrement) (calcined, 1 qian), Cantuizhi (Silkworm Cast Skin) (use Jiangcan if unavailable), Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) (raw half, calcined half), Baifan (Alumen) (raw half, calcined half), Pengsha (Borax) (raw half, calcined half, each 5 fen).

Grind into powder, make pills with honey the size of mung beans. Each dose is 5-15 pills, taken down with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction). For deficiency, remove Xuisui Zi and add Shengjiang, Rougui, Renshen, Baizhu.
Zhihan San (Stop Sweat Powder): Treats excessive sweating during sleep.
Formula: Gu Pushan (Old Palm Fan) (calcined retaining nature).
Grind into powder. Each dose is 1-2 qian, taken with warm wine or Wumei Tang (Smoked Plum Decoction). Pugui (Palm Ash) stops bleeding and promotes urination, similar to Puhuang. Sweat is the fluid of blood; thus, burning an old fan stained with sweat utilizes the principle of "same qi seeking same." Physicians generally do not understand this.
Shinan San (Southern Magnolia Leaf Powder): Treats strabismus in children.
Formula: Shinanye (Magnoliae Officinalis Folium? Note: Text says Shi Nan Ye, likely referring to a specific herb, possibly Misophragma or similar local name, WHO term pending verification, literal translation Southern Stone Leaf), Lilü (Veratrum Nigrum Root), Gudi (Momordicae Fructus).

The above seven ingredients are ground into fine powder. Grind Xingren and Mangxiao together until pasty, mix with honey, and form pills the size of Erythrinae Semen. Each dose is one pill, dissolved in Congbai Tang (Scallion White Decoction).
Changpu Wan (Acorus Pill): Treats heart qi deficiency leading to inability to speak.
