Boye Decoction (from *Jin Gui Yao Lue*): Treats incessant hematemesis.
Cacumen Platycladi (stir-fried, 3 qian) Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum (prepared, 1 qian) Folium Artemisiae Argyi (one handful; another version prescribes Colla Corii Asini, 3 qian)
Decoct the above three ingredients in water, add one cup of juice from horse dung (Ma Tong), and boil together until one bowl remains. Divide into two doses and take warm. (If Ma Tong is unavailable, replace with fresh urine from a healthy child.) When blood regurgitates upward without stopping, it should be attributed to excessive fire. Therefore, Cacumen Platycladi is used to suppress the excessive Qi, while the acrid-warm properties of Ginger and Mugwort help dissipate nodules, preventing blood stasis. Furthermore, Ma Tong guides the blood downward. This approach cannot be compared to the modern practice of solely using Cacumen Platycladi, Cortex Juglandis Fractae Carbonis (Zonghui), or Pilus Humanus Carbonisatus (Xueyutu).
Huangtu Tang (Earth Soil Decoction) (from *Jin Gui Yao Lue*): Treats injury to the Yin collaterals, causing internal hemorrhage, presenting as bleeding followed by stool, or dark and dull hematemesis and epistaxis. It also primarily treats dysentery postpartum.
Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata (prepared) Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (roasted) Radix Rehmanniae Preparata Colla Corii Asini Radix Scutellariae (each 1.5 qian) Caulis Cinnamomi Preparatus (Fuzi, prepared) Caosin (Heart-of-the-stove earth, size of an egg, crushed)
Decoct the seven ingredients in water first. Clarify the Caosin, remove dregs, and add the remaining herbs. Boil and divide into doses for warm consumption. If heat signs are present, add a handful of Cacumen Platycladi. (*Qian Jin Fang* omits Fuzi and Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, adding Rhizoma Zingiberis Freshum instead.)
Chixiaodou Danggui San (Adzuki Bean and Angelica Powder) (from *Jin Gui Yao Lue*): Treats heat-toxin flowing from the Small Intestine to the Large Intestine, presenting as stool followed by blood, as well as Hu Huo disease with blood accumulation, intestinal abscess with pus in stool, etc.
Semina Phaseoli Angularis (2 sheng, specifically fine adzuki beans, soaked until sprouting, then dried) Radix Angelicae Sinensis (3 liang)
Grind into powder. Take one fangcun bi (square-inch spoonful) with Jiangshui (fermented grain water), three times daily. (If sour Jiangshui is unavailable, substitute with vinegar mixed with boiling water.)
Xiexin Tang (Source: Yi Yin's Sanhuang Tang) Cuishi Bawei Wan (Source) Baitong Tang (See under Sini Tang) Guipi Tang (See under Baoyuan Tang)
Zhinue San (Stop Epistaxis Powder): Treats prolonged epistaxis accompanied by fever.
Radix Astragali (6 qian) Radix Angelicae Sinensis Radix Poria Cum Ligno Quercus Rubra (Chifuling) Radix Paeoniae Albae Radix Rehmanniae Preparata Colla Corii Asini (each 3 qian)
Grind into powder. Take 3 qian mixed with Ophiopogonis Decoction when half-hungry, three times daily. Facial heat with cold feet, and a sensation of emptiness resembling hunger, indicate Yin-fire in the Lower Jiao. Add 1.5 qian of Cinnamon Bark powder. Thirst but inability to drink, with a sensation of fullness in the chest/diaphragm, indicates blood stasis. Add Rhinoceros Horn (now substituted with Water Buffalo Horn) and Moutan Bark. Qi deficiency with poor appetite and normal bowel/bladder function indicates taking Dushen Tang (Ginseng Decoction). Accompanied by slight wind invasion, fever, and headache, take Congbai Xiangchi Tang (Scallion and Fermented Soybean Decoction). Restlessness due to deficiency-heat with intermittent hot flashes, take Zhizi Chichi Tang (Gardenia and Fermented Soybean Decoction). Chronic lateral wind with severe headache, take wine infusion of Black Soybean and Schizonepeta Ash. Sudden incessant epistaxis, take Maohua Tang (Cat-tail Flower Decoction). Recurrent epistaxis over a long period, take Wumei Tang (Mume Fruit Decoction).
Xiao Wuchen Tang (Minor Black Immovable Decoction) (from *Ju Fang*): Treats irregular Qi and Blood, causing stabbing pain in the heart.
Rhizoma Cyperi Rotundi (soaked in fresh urine of a healthy child, pounded, 3 qian) Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (roasted, 1 qian) Fructus Pruni Mume (1.5 qian)
Decoct the above three ingredients in water. Use this decoction to grind Agarwood (Chenxiang), 0.5 fen. Add a pinch of salt. Take warm. In gynecology, these three ingredients are named Yiqi San (Suppress Qi Powder). Combined with Siwu Tang, they form Siwu Tang variant (Si Wu Tang implies four substances, here referring to a specific combination). This is a variation of Ju Fang's Wuchen Tang, where Ginseng and Ginger are replaced by Cyperi Rotundi. Although its Qi-breaking power is strong, its efficacy is slightly inferior, hence the prefix "Xiao" (Minor). The intent behind this prescription is subtle.
Heishen San (Black Divine Powder) (from *Ju Fang*): Treats recurrent hematemesis and epistaxis that do not stop.
Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (roasted, 2 liang) Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum (prepared) Cortex Cinnamomi (each 1 liang) Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (4 liang) Radix Angelicae Sinensis Spora Lykopodii (screened, stir-fried black, each 3 liang) Radix Paeoniae Albae (wine-processed, 2 liang)
Grind into powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Use half he (unit of volume) of fine black soybeans, lightly stir-fried until fragrant. Pour half zhan (unit of volume) of wine over them, add half zhan of water, boil down to half zhan. Mix with half cup of fresh urine of a healthy child and take. (Popular versions stir-fry black soybeans until hot, remove shells, and mix with other herbs into powder; this misses the point that the efficacy of black soybeans lies entirely in their shells.) For Qi deficiency, add 3 liang of Ginseng and 6 liang of Astragalus to secure Wei-Qi and prevent Ying-Blood collapse.
Qianjin Danggui Tang (Qian Jin Angelica Decoction): Treats epistaxis and hematemesis.
Radix Angelicae Sinensis (1 qian) Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum (prepared, 0.5 fen) Radix Paeoniae Albae Colla Corii Asini Radix Scutellariae (each 1.5 qian)
Decoct the five ingredients in water. Take twice daily.
Xiao An Shen Wan (Minor Kidney-Pacifying Pill): Treats Wind-Cold invading the Kidney meridian, presenting with heaviness in the lower body, frequent nocturia, tinnitus, blurred vision, loose gums with bleeding, and cold hernia pain in the lower abdomen.
Rhizoma Cyperi Rotundi (processed with fresh urine of a healthy child, 2 liang) Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii Preparata (cleaned and prepared, 1 liang) Fructus Foeniculi (lightly roasted with green salt, 3 liang) Fructus Zanthoxyli (remove closed-mouth ones, stir-fried, 1 liang) Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (4 liang) Fructus Toosendan (steamed in wine, flesh extracted, 3 qian)
Make pills with wine paste, size of wu zi (wutong seeds). Take 3 qian with salt water on an empty stomach, and 3 qian with warm wine before bed.
Qingwei San (Clear Stomach Powder): Treats heat accumulation in the Stomach, causing pain in the Zhongwan region. After pain, fire Qi erupts, resulting in alternating chills and fever until subsiding. Also treats swollen, painful, and bleeding gums, with pain radiating to the head.
Radix Rehmanniae Fresha (4 qian) Rhizoma Cimicifugae (1.5 qian) Cortex Moutan (5 qian) Radix Angelicae Sinensis Radix Coptidis (wine-steamed, each 3 qian)
Grind into powder. Divide into three doses. Decoct in water, remove dregs, and sip slowly. Take again after half a day. Xijiao Dihuang Tang focuses primarily on dissipating stasis, thus using Rhinoceros Horn (substituted) and Paeonia. This formula lifts and clears Stomach heat, thus using Cimicifuga and Coptis. Later variations of Qingwei San combine elements of both formulas, merely omitting Paeonia.
Jiawei Qingwei San (Modified Clear Stomach Powder): Treats macules, papules, mouth and tongue ulcers, and rotting gums.
Qingwei San plus Rhinoceros Horn (substituted), Forsythia Fruit, and Raw Licorice Root.
