Cao Zifan: The six pulses are soggy and fine, yet vague and unclear. The tongue coating is thin and white, slightly yellow in the center, and quite sticky. Slight movement easily induces sweating. If it were truly Yang deficiency, how could one handle complex affairs without fear? Could it be that the Wei (Defensive) Yang protecting the exterior and the Yunyong (Functional) Yang operating internally are two different things? There is no such principle. The reason for this is that sweat is the fluid of the Heart; fluids are precious and should be stored. Currently, there is an excess of dampness in the body, compounded by a habit of drinking alcohol. Alcohol's nature is ascending and generating heat, leading to steaming and steaming of damp-heat in the Stomach, forcing fluids to leak out externally. Excessive sweating here does not actually fall into the category of spontaneous sweating or night sweating. If one uses methods to protect Yang and consolidate the exterior with Qi-tonifying herbs, dampness cannot be discharged. If one uses methods to astringe Yin and strengthen Water to benefit the Kidney, dampness will stagnate and fail to move. Both approaches are sufficient to cause other complications. The method for treating sweating is solely to dispel heat so as not to allow steaming, while simultaneously guiding damp-heat downward, allowing the damp-heat accumulated in the Stomach to seep out through the Bladder. In this way, without specifically stopping sweat, the sweating will cease on its own.
Prescription: Digutpi (CorTEX CRYPTOSTEGIAE, 3 qian, mixed with decoction of Guizhi 0.3 qian), Huashi (TALCI, 4 qian), Fuling (Poria, 4 qian), Zexie (Rhizoma ALISMATIS, 1.5 qian), Zhuling (Polyporus, 2 qian), Pipaye (Folium ERIobotRYAE, 4 slices, de-hairy), Fuxiaomai (Fructus TRITICI VULGARIS, 1 liang, decocted to replace water).
Liang (Left): After continuously taking Huangqi Jianzhong Tang (Astragalus Decoction to Establish the Middle), both cough and night sweating decreased. However, phlegm remains sticky and difficult to expectorate. When half-hungry, the cough worsens significantly. The body feels aversion to cold, and the pulse is fine and weak. This indicates Yin injury affecting Yang. Use sweet-warm medicines to tonify the Middle.
Prescription: Zhi Mianhuang (Prepared Radix ASTRAGALI, 3 qian), Sheng Gancao (Raw Radix GLYCYRRHIZAE, 0.7 qian), Tian Xingren (Sweet Semen PRUNUS ARMENIACAE, 3 qian), Fuling (Poria, 3 qian), Juhong (Pericarpium CITRI RETICULATAE RUBRUM, 1 qian), Kui Dangshen (Radix CODONOPSIS, 3 qian), Huaixiaomai (Fructus TRITICI VULGARIS, 5 qian), Hutaorou (Semen JUGLANDIS, 1 piece), Nanzao (Fructus JUJUBAE, 4 pieces).
Second Visit: After hematemesis, Yin injury affected Yang. Although night sweating stopped, the body still feels aversion to cold, there is a sensation of obstruction in the throat, a desire to choke-cough, and poor gastric appetite. After administering Jianzhong Tang, the Middle Qi remained uninvigorated, and the pulse was fine and weak. This is due to simultaneous deficiency of Yin and Yang. The Shaoyin meridian passes through the throat, and the root of Middle Qi lies in the Kidney. Therefore, Kidney Yin deficiency causes discomfort in the throat, and lack of Stomach Qi fails to invigorate. Decoctions and pills are administered together, treating the upper and lower separately.
Prescription: Zhi Mianhuang (Prepared Radix ASTRAGALI, 3 qian), Zhei Heicao (Prepared Black Radix GLYCYRRHIZAE, 0.4 qian), Tiansizi (Semen CUSCUTAE, stir-fried in salt water, 3 qian), Huainiuxi (Radix ACHYRANTHIS BIDENTATAE, stir-fried in salt water, 3 qian), Kui Dangshen (Radix CODONOPSIS, 3 qian), Bai Fuling (Poria, 3 qian), Chao Yurou (Stir-fried Fructus CORNI, 2 qian), Duqi Wan (Duqi Pill, 4 qian, taken in two doses).
Third Visit: Long-standing deficiency has not recovered. Cough worsens when slightly hungry, and Stomach Qi cannot be invigorated. Plan to use Maidong Tang (Ophiopogon Decoction) to nourish Lung and Stomach, while still using pills to enter the lower jiao to secure Kidney Yin.

Zhang: Previously had Liver Qi stagnation, with frequent abdominal distension. During the spring season when Yang ascends, choking coughs arose again, with sticky and thick phlegm. Cold sweat drips during sleep. The pulse is rapid, fine, and wiry. Qi from the Liver store rebels against the Taiyin Lung. The Lung is the upper source of water; fearing the water source loses transformation, entering the door of consumption.

Right side patient: After subduing Yang and calming the spirit, thunderous heat and night sweating still do not retreat. Fingers are swollen, mouth is dry with desire to drink. Just before menstruation, breasts are painful. Pulse is rapid and wiry. Yang Qi is not gathered. Again, nourish Yin, drain fire, and consolidate the exterior.
