A patient suffering from head wind (Tóufēng, a condition characterized by chronic headache and sensitivity to cold) had wrapped their head in heavy cotton for thirty years without cure. Two sheng of buckwheat flour were mixed with water to form two cakes, which were alternately applied to the head. Recovery occurred upon the emergence of slight sweating. (From *Li Lou Guai Zheng Fang*)
Maggots occasionally emerged from within the scalp. The skin was incised with a knife, and juice extracted from luffa leaves (Luffae Fructus) was squeezed and applied to the site, resulting in the complete eradication of the maggots. (From *Xiao Shan Guai Zheng Fang*)
The condition resembled insect-burrowed wood and was named "Big White Termite" (Dà Bái Yǐ). Powdered tea seeds (Camellia oleifera seeds) were insufflated into the nasal cavity to achieve efficacy. (From *Yi Fang Jiang Yao*)
Calcined iron scale (Duàn Shí) was placed inside rice, pounded into a paste, and applied externally. (From *Li Lou Guai Zheng Fang*)
Broken gourd rind, white cockscomb flower (Celosiae Cristatae Flos), and white conch shell (Boliangbei) were taken in equal parts and calcined to retain their properties. Blood dragon resin (Sanguis Draconis) and musk (Moschus) were each taken in 5 fen and ground into powder. These powders were moistened with good wine. Prepared mugwort (Ai Ye) leaves were kneaded into a cake and applied to the Baihui acupoint (Baihui, GV20) on the vertex. The area was then warmed with an ironing device until healed. (From *Wang Daicun Qi Ji Fang*)
Another condition is known as "Oil Wind" (Yóufēng, corresponding to Alopecia Areata), occurring within the hair-bearing scalp. Hair falls out in patches; the skin becomes red, shiny, and intensely pruritic. It may also occur in the beard, eyebrows, or face. Sea wormwood (Hai Ai), Ligusticum sinense (Gānběn), Chrysanthemum morifolium (Júhuā), Vitex trifolia (Mànjīngzǐ), Saposhnikovia divaricata (Fángfēng), Schizonepeta tenuifolia (Jīngsuì), Mentha haplocalyx (Bòhe), Pogostemon cablin (Huòxiāng), and Nardostachys chinensis (Gānsōng) were each used in 2 qian quantities. Five to six bowls of water were added, and the mixture was boiled several times. The hot decoction and dregs were poured into a wide-mouthed bowl. First, the facial area was fumigated with the steam. Once the liquid cooled slightly, a cloth was dipped into it for washing. This was performed two to three times daily. After washing, exposure to wind should be avoided, and consumption of fishy odors and triggering foods (Fāwù) is prohibited. (From *Yi Zong Jin Jian*)
An individual developed a tumor resembling a human face, complete with eyes, mouth, and nose, capable of consuming food. Leiguan pill (Lei Wan, derived from *Pleurocybella cleiodes* or similar parasitic fungi, often referring to *Polyporus umbellatus* in some contexts but here specifically Lei Wan) in 3 qian was ground into fine powder. Calomel (Qīngfěn) and Poria cocos (Bái Fúlíng) were each added in 1 qian, mixed uniformly, and applied topically, leading to resolution. (From *Qi Tianshi Bié Zhuàn*)
Black sesame seeds (Wū Má) were dried in the shade and ground into powder. They were soaked in black sesame oil (Wū Má Yóu) and applied daily. (From *Qi Fang Zuan Yao*)
Another prescription uses Pinellia ternata (Bàn Xià) and mustard seeds (Jiè Cài Zǐ) in equal parts, ground into powder and mixed with fresh ginger juice (Shēng Jiāng Zì Rán Zhī). Application several times promotes regrowth. (From *Jiǎn Yì Liáng Fāng*)
Seven mulberry leaves (Sāng Yè) were used to wash the affected area daily. Regrowth occurred within one month, appearing identical to before. The same applies to beard and eyebrow loss. (From *Shi Shi Mi Lu*)
