Treats spleen injury caused by raw and cold food, with diarrhea or dysentery that has not lasted long, and where kidney qi is not yet damaged. It is appropriate to use this decoction to dispel cold-dampness and stabilize the spleen and stomach; this serves as an auxiliary formula for guarding the stomach gate.
Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis (Chao/Fried) [1 qian] / Cortex Citri Reticulatae (Chao/Fried) [1 qian] / Rhizoma Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae (Chao/Fried) / Semen Dolichoris Lablabis (Chao/Fried) / Polyporus / Radix Alismatis (2 qian) / Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Chao/Fried) / Cortex Cinnamomi (1 qian)
Treats abdominal cold pain or diarrhea/dysentery resulting from sudden consumption of raw and cold food. In cases where the condition is in its early stages, with qi and blood not yet depleted and spleen/stomach function not yet failed, or accompanied by distension/fullness or vomiting, this decoction can be used first. This represents the exterior-interior balancing herbs of the Weiguan Decoction; it should be applied according to deficiency or excess patterns. For patients with cold-dampness damaging the zang organs or Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome) with excess pathogenic factors, it is most suitable.
Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis / Cortex Citri Reticulatae / Radix Linderae (1.5 qian) / Polyporus / Radix Alismatis (2 qian) / Radix Glycyrrhizae (Zhi/Roasted, 1 qian) / Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Pao/Pounded, 1-2 qian) / Fructus Evodiae (2 qian). For cold-dampness patterns.
Treats Xiao Chang Shan Qi (Small Intestine Hernia), characterized by pain radiating to the umbilical and abdominal regions. (The Jueyin Liver meridian connects to the genitalia and enters the lower abdomen. Shan Qi diseases arise from Jueyin pathogenic factors affecting the sinews, causing radiating pain. The Small Intestine meridian connects with the Jueyin. When cold pathogens lodge in the Small Intestine, lower abdominal pain radiates to the testicles. If the pain moves upward rather than downward, even rushing up to the heart and chest, it is colloquially named Xiao Chang Qi. Ancient treatment methods are often similar.) Semen Crotonis Tiglii (70 grains) / Fructus Toosendan (10 pieces) / Radix Linderae / Radix Aucklandiae / Fructus Foeniculi (Yan Chao/Salt-fried) / Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum (Chao/Fried) / Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride (5 qian) / Semen Arecae (Slightly broken, stir-fried with bran together with Fructus Toosendan until black, remove bran and Semen Crotonis, then mix with remaining herbs to make a powder; take 1 qian with wine. Radix Linderae disperses bladder pain. Fructus Toosendan guides heat from the Small Intestine down through urination. Radix Aucklandiae and Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride move qi and calm the liver. Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum and Fructus Foeniculi have properties as hard as iron and stone, capable of draining water and breaking accumulations. Semen Crotonis Tiglii breaks through gates, resolving blood stasis and cold accumulations. These are all herbs that move qi, dispel dampness, and scatter cold.)
(From *Jin Gui Yao Lue*) Treats Xiong Bi (Chest Bi) presenting with alternating severity or remission.
Rhizoma Coicis (2 liang) / Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata (1 piece, Pao/Pounded) Pound into a powder. Take one Fang Cun Bi (a square-inch measure) per dose, three times daily.
The chest is akin to the vast sky, the place where sunlight shines. The Zong Qi (Gathering Qi) at Dan Zhong (Conception Vessel 17) relies on this to encompass the qi of the whole body. Now, due to insufficiency of yang qi in the chest, the condition manifests with alternating relief and urgency.
