(From *Jin Gui Yao Lue*) Treats difficult urination during pregnancy, with normal diet and appetite.
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), in equal parts. Make pills with refined honey, size of small beans. Take three pills per dose with water, increasing gradually to ten pills.
Historically, it is believed that difficult urination occurs when pathogenic heat from cold damage transmits inward, which must be preceded by exterior syndrome manifestations. Or, if there is stagnation-heat in the source of transformation, thirst above will necessarily appear. Middle Qi fails to transform... therefore use as... minister... complete. (Note: The original text here is fragmentary; only visible parts are translated.)
(From *Ben Shi Fang*) Treats wind-stroke during pregnancy, where phlegm-saliva surges causing sudden collapse, eyes rolling up, jaw clenched, and opisthotonos (body arched backward like a bow), known as Zi Xian (Eclampsia of Pregnancy). (Yin governs stillness, Yang governs movement. Wind is a Yang pathogen. All wind diseases involving tremors and dizziness belong to Liver Wood, hence symptoms such as spasms, vertigo, confusion, and opisthotonos occur.)
Lingyangjiao (Cornu Saigae Tataricae) powder (1 qian), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Zaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, stir-fried), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Yiren (Coicis Semen, 5 fen), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix).
The acrid-cool nature of Lingyangjiao pacifies Liver fire. The acrid-warm nature of Fangfeng and Duhuo disperses wind pathogens. Fushen and Zaoren calm the spirit; Danggui and Chuanxiong invigorate blood circulation.
(From *Yan Shi Ji Sheng Fang*) Treats disharmony of fetal Qi, rushing upward to the chest and abdomen. Abdominal fullness and headache, pain in the heart, abdomen, lower back, and hypochondrium, known as Zi Xuan (Floating Fetus). (This is caused by excess Qi in the Lower Jiao and flourishing Minister Fire, lifting the fetus upward and pressing against the Heart and Chest.)
Suye (Perillae Folium, 1 qian), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 7 fen), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium, 5 fen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 fen). Decoct with added fresh ginger.
Chuanxiong, Danggui, and Shaoyao harmonize the blood. Suye, Chenpi, and Dafupi regulate Qi flow. When Qi flows smoothly and blood is harmonized, the fetus becomes secure. Having promoted Qi movement, Ginseng and Licorice are used to nourish...
(From Chen Jingchu) Treats Zi Qi (Edema of Pregnancy). (Women's Chong and Ren meridians have long been affected by Blood-Wind. Due to pregnancy, the feet swell, accompanied by panting, chest oppression, and poor appetite. In severe cases, yellow fluid oozes from the toes. This disease is named Zi Qi, not edema.)
Tianxianteng (Stem Aristolochiae Manshuriensis, i.e., Qingmuxiang Teng, lightly stir-fried), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, stir-fried), Wuyao (Linderae Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted), in equal parts. Add three leaves of Zisu (Perillae Folium) and raw Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus)...
The bitter-warm nature of Tianxianteng disperses Qi and invigorates blood, resolving wind-pathogens within the blood. The acrid-warm nature of Xiangfu, Wuyao, and Chenpi moves stagnant Qi. The properties of Zisu and Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger)...
