This is characterized by insufficiency of Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) and excess in Yangming (Greater Yang), manifesting as vexatious heat, dryness and thirst, headache, toothache, and bleeding, etc. The efficacy is miraculous. Treats latent Fire in the Spleen and Stomach, presenting with dry mouth and lips, oral ulcers, foul breath, vexatious thirst, easy hunger, and Heat in the muscles. (The mouth is the orifice of the Spleen; the lips are the external manifestation of the Spleen. Dry mouth and lips, oral ulcers, and foul breath all belong to Spleen Fire. Due to Spleen Heat, there is vexatious heat and easy hunger; the disease is named "Zhong Xiao" (Middle Consumptive Thirst). Since the Spleen governs the muscles, the Heat is in the flesh... If pressing heavily yields no heat, and light pressing also yields no heat, but moderate pressure reveals heat, and it worsens at night, this indicates Excess Heat of the Spleen. One should use this decoction along with Tiaowei Chengqi Tang. For Deficient Heat, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang. Note: Heat on the face, heat in the anterior body, heat throughout the whole body, mania with delirious speech and visions, all belong to Foot-Yangming.
