(Also known as Baoyuan Dan [Preserve the Primordial Pill], also known as Zhuangyang Dan [Strengthen Yang Pill].)
In my youth, I read Wang Shi's *Boji Fang* [Comprehensive Prescriptions for Relief], which stated: "This pill can treat a hundred kinds of critical illnesses near death." I secretly laughed at this claim, fearing it was unreasonable. Later, I obtained the prescriptions of Bian Que, placed this formula at the forefront, and dared to follow its usage. After testing it on people, I repeatedly achieved miraculous effects, leading me to believe that the laws established by the sages are indeed divine; it is merely those who do not believe who bring harm upon themselves. This formula has been widely popular since ancient times without any doubt or discussion. However, when Sun Simiao wrote the *Qianjin Fang* [Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold], he pointed out the many dangers and benefits of sulfur. Consequently, later generations feared it and dared not use it. This is because these later generations were destined to suffer premature death; thus, they abandoned this great medicine in favor of herbal plants, how could they possibly cure serious illnesses? I observe that modern physicians treat patients' conditions with warm and neutral medicines, thereby nurturing them to death without regret. I have revived patients suffering from decades-long severe illnesses within moments using this pill. Where does the talk of inducing carbuncles come from? It is Sun Simiao's fault. All you who share this conviction, please test it, and you will see the miraculous effects for yourselves.
This pill treats twenty types of yin abscesses, thirty types of wind diseases, all forms of deficiency exhaustion (Xu Lao), edema, spleen diarrhea (Pi Xie), persistent diarrhea, dysentery with remission and recurrence (Xiuxi Li), diabetes mellitus (Xiao Ke), lung distension (Fei Zhang), constipation or urinary retention, hematemesis and epistaxis, hematuria, cholera, vomiting and diarrhea, internal cataracts in the eyes, corpse-like fainting (Shi Jue), qi-type fainting, bone-steaming tidal fever, yin syndromes, yin toxins, pain in the heart and abdomen, fullness and obstruction below the heart (Xia Pi), acute pain in the lower abdomen and hypochondrium, stomach cold, indigestion of water and grain, long-standing bladder hernia and diaphragmatic distension, uterine deficiency-cold in women leading to infertility, red and white leukorrhea, pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, infantile acute and chronic convulsive winds (Jing Feng), and all difficult and疑难 (nan yi) severe illnesses. Treatment yields no ineffective cases.
Ten jin of Boshang sulfur are melted in a copper pot, filtered through hemp cloth until clean, poured into water, then melted and poured again. This process is repeated seven times. The substance is ground into fine powder, placed in an Yangcheng jar, the lid secured tightly with iron wire, and the exterior sealed firmly with salt mud to a thickness of eight fen, then dried in the shade. First, heat slowly over low fire until red, then increase to fierce fire for the duration of one incense stick. Remove from the furnace and bury in the ground for three days to eliminate fire toxicity. Grind again into powder. Boil steamed cakes (Zhengbing) to serve as a binder, forming pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 50 or 30 pills per dose; children take 15 pills. Individuals with qi deficiency are suitable for regular consumption, as it has the greatest efficacy in promoting longevity. For cattle, horses, and other livestock vomiting food, administering sulfur powder leads to immediate recovery. For emaciated chickens, geese, and ducks near death, feeding them sulfur powder results in immediate recovery and rapid fattening.
Method for making steamed cakes:
One day before Qingming Festival, make thin pancakes from dry flour. Place dry flour inside, wrap them up, and dry them in the shade.
