**Cortex Catalpae (Zi Bai Pi):** Bitter in taste, cold in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats heat conditions, expels three types of intestinal parasites, and treats eye diseases. The flowers and leaves, when pounded and applied externally, treat sores on pigs; feeding it to pigs makes them fat and easy to raise, tripling the growth effect. Grows in the Yellow River region. This is the bark of the Catalpa tree. There are three types of Catalpa; one should use the variety that does not rot when mixed with plain feed. Other varieties are no longer used in prescriptions. The leaves treat maceration ulcers on hands and feet caused by water immersion. The method of using Toona leaves and this plant to fertilize pigs has not been seen; this matter should be recorded in Shangqiu Zi's "Classic of Pig Raising."
[Verification]: The flowers and leaves of these three trees, when used to feed pigs, can all make them fat and easy to raise. Current texts such as "Li's Materia Medica" and "Incredible Records of All Things" only state that feeding them makes pigs fat. The current text mentions applying to pig sores and treating erosion ulcers with decoction baths, and sealing fresh leaves to treat rotting ulcers, which is an erroneous distortion.
**Moutain Pepper Vine (Mu Tian Liao):** Sweet and salty in taste, neutral in nature, non-toxic. It primarily invigorates blood circulation and treats postpartum abdominal distension and suffocation sensation resembling death. Boil five liang in water or wine, take the concentrated juice orally; effective. This plant is used for dyeing by some, coming from Nanhai Kunlun; also found in Jiaozhou and Aizhou. The tree resembles Luo tree, leaves resemble elm leaves but without astringency, vines grow up to one zhang long, flowers are yellow, fruits are green when young and black when ripe. (Newly Added)
**Another Plant:** Sweet and bitter in taste, neutral in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats traumatic injuries, knits bones and sinews, dispels wind-induced itching, and treats dental caries. Can be used for medicinal bathing. Leaves resemble *Sambucus* (Lu Ying), flowers are similar. However, it is a tree, about one or two zhang high, wood is light and hollow. Branches inserted into the ground take root easily; households also plant it. Also known as Mu Shuo, found everywhere. (Newly Added)
**Bai Shi (White Stone/Plant):** Sweet in taste, neutral in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats head wind (cephalalgia due to wind) and tension/cramping in the lower abdomen. Lu Ji states: also known as Mu Mi (Tree Honey). Its bark is warm in nature and non-toxic. It primarily treats five types of hemorrhoids; mixing with wine makes the taste thinner; this is also a unique substance. The tree trunk is one chi in diameter, the wood is named Bai Shi, leaves resemble mulberry and Zhe tree. Fruits are pod-like, resembling coral, with seeds at the tip; people eat them. (Newly Added)
**Polygonum (Mu Liao):** Pungent in taste, warm in nature, slightly toxic. It primarily treats fixed masses (Zheng Jie), accumulations, wind-wasting deficiency-cold. Grows in mountain valleys. It is a vine, leaves resemble Zhe tree, flowers are white, fruits are date-sized with indefinite shape. The pith resembles eggplant, pungent in taste; harvesting should follow the method of Jiang Liao. Cutting the seedlings and vines, soaking in wine and taking orally, or brewing wine with them, greatly eliminates wind-cold and asymmetrical paralysis. Found everywhere, currently produced in Anzhou and Shen Zhou. (Newly Added)
