Sweet in taste, toxic. Primarily treats *guizhu* (ghostly transmission, a chronic wasting disease caused by pathogenic factors) and *gudu* (poisoning from gu worms), removes fish bones stuck in the throat, stops chronic cough; taken after being burned to ash; the meat treats epidemic febrile diseases (*wenbing*), as well as seasonal illnesses in cattle and horses.
Boiling method.
There are two types of otters: one type is large, with a head like a horse and a body like a bat; it is not used for medicinal purposes. Here, one should obtain the common variety seen daily; its bones also treat bone obstructions caused by eating fish. Households with cattle or horses may collect its feces for use. Otters are mostly found on the banks of streams. Its meat must not be eaten together with rabbit meat.
[Respectfully noted] *Bielu* states:
Sweet in taste, toxic. Primarily treats female infertility, vaginal itching, and swelling of the infant's scrotum and testicles; the five internal organs and intestines are bitter in taste, slightly cold in nature, and toxic; they primarily treat chills and fever caused by *gudu*, and childhood convulsions and epilepsy; male fox feces, when burned, dispel evil influences; those growing on wood or stone are authentic.
Foxes are absent in the Jiangdong region; they originate from the north and Yizhou areas. They resemble martens but are yellow in color, and are also adept at bewitching people.
[Respectfully noted] Fox meat and intestines, prepared as food, primarily treat chronic impetigo that does not heal. The intestine, when burned to ash and administered with water, treats cattle epidemics, proving more effective than otter. The fox's nose tip resembles a puppy's, and only its tail is large; it does not resemble a marten at all.
The fat is sweet in taste, neutral in nature, and non-toxic. It primarily treats rebellious qi (*shangqi*), shortness of breath, and coughing against the flow; mixed with wine and taken three *he* per dose, twice daily. It also treats equine lung diseases and *chongsang* (parasitic lesions in the throat). The meat primarily treats chronic edema that has not healed and approaches death; made into a soup and consumed, it produces significant diuretic effects. The urinary bladder, dried, ground with water to the size of a chicken egg, and taken on an empty stomach, induces vomiting to expel various *gu* poisons. (Newly added)
Pungent and sweet in taste, neutral in nature, and non-toxic. Primarily treats metal wounds (*jinchuang*), stops bleeding, promotes flesh regeneration, and treats epilepsy; ground with water to the size of a jujube pit, taken twice daily, it is effective. (Newly added)
Roasted, it primarily treats wind-induced swellings and sores. Fecal juice primarily treats sudden pain in the heart and abdomen and various *zhuwu* (sudden illnesses caused by external pathogens). Urine primarily treats *zhengpi* (abdominal masses), gastric reflux with persistent vomiting, toothache, and water toxicity. Grass donkey urine primarily treats "dry water" (condition of dryness/fluid depletion). Piebald donkey urine primarily treats damp-water accumulation; taking five *he* is beneficial. To distinguish between dry and wet conditions: drawing on paper, dry water forms characters, while wet water does not.
Milk primarily treats pediatric heat-induced convulsions and acute jaundice; excessive consumption causes dysentery; it treats heat toxins. The grease from under the tail primarily treats malaria; washed with water to extract the juice, mixed with flour to form two pills the size of quail eggs, one is eaten before the onset of malaria, and the other at the time of onset. It treats malaria regardless of whether the onset is recent or long-standing. (Newly added)
