The *Nan Jing Shu* states: After the onset of kuang disease (mania), the patient dislikes sleeping and lying down, refuses food, claims to be wise and virtuous, sings, laughs, walks, and runs. This is caused by excessive Yang Qi. Therefore, the classics state "Chong Yang Zhe Kuang" (Double Yang results in Mania). It is erroneous for modern people to call this Dian disease (epilepsy/depression-like state). Dian disease involves stiffening and falling to the ground upon attack, hence the term "Dian Jue". This is caused by excessive Yin Qi, leading to an inability to stand or walk, resulting in collapse. It is also erroneous for modern people to mistake this for Xian disease (epilepsy). The analysis of Dian and Kuang diseases is thus clear and obvious, yet people remain unconvinced. Is this due to errors in transmission and learning that are difficult to correct?
Whenever Kuang disease manifests with a desire to run, or self-proclaimed divinity and nobility, various fire moxibustion therapies must be prepared to seek recovery. If the patient exhibits weeping, sobbing, and groaning, this is attributed to Evil Pathogens, not Kuang disease. Treatment should follow methods for expelling evil pathogens.
Treat jing feng (wind-stroke/fright wind) and epilepsy. Upon attack, convulsions occur, consciousness is clouded, and speech is absent. Acupoint: Baihui (GV20). Moxibustion 7 cones, up to 49 cones (Qi Qi Zhuang), adjusting the number of moxa cones based on severity. Additionally, at the depression between the red and white skin at the lower aspect of both lateral malleoli, the Jinmen (BL63) acupoint, moxibustion 7 cones, up to 49 cones.
