Floating pulse indicates disease in the exterior. Floating pulse corresponds to the Renying (ST 9) acupoint, indicating Wind; corresponds to the Qikou (LU 9) acupoint, indicating Qi stagnation; indicates Heat; indicates Pain; indicates Vomiting; indicates Distension; indicates [missing character]; indicates Panting.
Floating and large pulse indicates nasal congestion. Floating, large, and long pulse indicates Wind-dizziness and Epilepsy. Floating, slippery, and rapid pulse indicates retained food. Floating, large, and choppy pulse indicates retained food with stagnant Qi. Floating and short pulse indicates Lung injury.
Kou pulse indicates loss of blood. Slightly kou pulse indicates epistaxis. Kou pulse at the Cun position indicates hematemesis. Kou pulse at the Guan position indicates bleeding from the rectum. Kou pulse at the Chi position indicates deficiency of the Lower Jiao, with urination [missing character].
Slippery pulse indicates vomiting. Indicates distension. Indicates cough. Indicates Heat. Indicates latent phlegm. Indicates retained food. Indicates accumulated blood. Indicates amenorrhea. Indicates Guizhu (a chronic wasting infectious disease). Indicates excess of both Qi and Blood.
Scattered slippery pulse indicates paralysis and flaccidity. Large slippery pulse indicates constrained Heat. Solid slippery pulse indicates Stomach Heat. Harmonious slippery pulse indicates pregnancy. Slippery pulse with unequal size indicates inevitable vomiting, indicating illness [missing character].
Solid pulse indicates Heat. [Missing character] indicates vomiting. Indicates pain. Indicates Qi obstruction. Indicates panting and cough. Indicates inability to control defecation.

Floating and tight pulse indicates water in the Lung. Tight and slippery pulse indicates movement of roundworms. Indicates retained food. Indicates reverse vomiting. Urgent tight pulse indicates Dunshi (a sudden fatal or severe painful condition). Tight and rapid pulse indicates alternating chills and fever.
Surging pulse indicates distension. [Missing character] indicates fullness. Indicates pain. Indicates Heat. Indicates irritability.
Surging and solid pulse indicates mania. Surging and tight pulse indicates carbuncles and sores, and urgent panting. Also indicates distension. Surging and large pulse indicates Gui-Sui (disease caused by evil spirits/psychogenic disorders). Surging and floating pulse indicates the appearance of Yang pathogen.
1. The floating pulse is a sign of wind and deficiency causing movement. The floating pulse corresponds to Metal, and in seasons to Autumn. All things end in autumn; flowers and leaves of trees and grass fall, leaving only branches standing alone.
2. The kou pulse is a sign of blood loss. The kou object has sides but is hollow in the middle. The pulse upon palpation is likewise. The ancients named it thus.
Then the meridians flow smoothly without interruption. The diagnosis of the kou pulse is different. This is because Yang pathogen is excessive, and blood and Qi lose their pathways, unable to continue each other. Therefore, its pulse shape, when lifted lightly, is floating, large, and soft; when pressed heavily, the two ends are solid while the middle is empty. Whenever this pulse is seen in diagnosis, it indicates loss of blood.
3. The slippery pulse is a sign of Qi and Blood merging and moving reversely. The slippery pulse belongs to Water, hence it comes and goes smoothly like pearls, with strength in the middle, sinking upon pressure, neither advancing nor retreating.
4. The solid pulse is a sign of fullness of Qi in the Triple Burner. Solid corresponds to the image of Earth. Spleen governs the Central Plain and belongs to Earth. The solid pulse is originally a diagnosis of Spleen deficiency, yet named "solid" because [missing character] Spleen resides [missing character] Yang concealed and [missing character].
5. The wiry pulse is a sign of the gathering and contracting of Qi and Blood. Ying-Blood and Wei-Qi are the basis of the pulse. Wei-Qi guards the exterior to fill the skin; Ying-Blood nourishes the interior to manage the collaterals.
6. The tight pulse is a sign of Cold stimulating and fighting, concealed in the Yang collaterals. Under the fingers, searching reveals the three positions (Cun, Guan, Chi) are open, coming and going rapidly and smoothly; pressing yields excess; lifting feels very sufficient. Shape [missing character]. Yin and Yang have not been out of harmony. Upon encountering pathogens, if received in Yang, it becomes Yang pathogen, merging with Yin; if received in Yin, it becomes Yin pathogen, merging with Yang. When Yin and Yang merge and crowd, Qi and Blood cannot find equilibrium; this is why. In the diagnosis of the tight pulse, Yang pathogen merges into Yang collaterals, causing blockage in the Three Yang meridians. Thus, symptoms include body heat, body pain, internal restlessness and agitation, followed by痞逆 (stagnation and rebellion).
7. The surging pulse is a sign of great heat in the Ying collaterals and blazing of Qi and Blood. Surging corresponds to the Southern Bing-Ding Fire, and in seasons to Summer. All things in summer reach peak growth and expansion. Pulse [missing character] sudden [missing character] all [missing character] matter.
