Taking off clothes when suddenly warm, drinking cold beverages when extremely hot, sitting or lying in drafts, exposure in dwellings, walking in wind and rain, exposure to frost and cold, rising early in the morning and inhaling cold air, sudden warmth after long clear weather, sudden cold changes, accumulation of cold after long rains leading to yin-dampness. Such conditions belong to pathogenic epidemic qi, invading and damaging the skin and muscles, entering the interstices (*Cou Li*), causing heavy body, soreness and pain of limbs and joints, stiffness of neck and back, unclear head and eyes, nasal congestion with heavy voice, running nose and tears, qi stagnation and excess in the upper jiao, throat discomfort, chest and diaphragm stagnation, and inability to eat. If these syndromes are not treated promptly with resolving methods, the pathogen may linger in the meridians and transmit endlessly. This formula treats such cases. Jiang Shilang's son, Chu Du, while serving as magistrate in Qing County, passed this formula to Zhao Xuelun, who sold it at his home, thereby improving their family's economic status.

**Puji Xiaodu Yinzi (Great Health Detoxifying Drink)** (From *Shi Xiao Fang*): Treats seasonal toxins. Verified efficacy. In the second year of Taihe, the Master served as tax supervisor in Yuanqi. In April, many people suffered from epidemics. Initially, aversion to cold and heavy body, followed by severe swelling of the head and face, inability to open eyes, shortness of breath, throat obstruction, dry tongue and mouth. Commonly called "Big Head Travel" (Da Tou Tian Xing). Relatives avoided visitors because most medicines failed. Magistrate Zhang also contracted this disease. By the fifth or sixth day, doctors used *Chengqi Tang* plus *Isatidis Radix* (Lan Gen) to purge, resulting in slight relief. The next day, symptoms returned; purging again brought slight relief, but ultimately failed to cure. Condition worsened critically. Someone suggested: "Li Mingzhi pays attention to medicine; please invite him." Upon examination, the Master explained: "The upper half of the body corresponds to Heaven Qi; the lower half to Earth Qi. Here, pathogenic heat lodges between the Heart and Lung, attacking the head and eyes, causing facial swelling. Using *Chengqi Tang* to purge clears stomach heat, punishing the innocent, ignoring that toxic vapors are knotted in the Upper Jiao." Thus, the prescription was formulated: *Scutellariae Radix* (Huang Qin) and *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huang Lian), bitter and cold, to clear Heart/Lung heat, as Sovereign; *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Ju Hong), bitter and neutral; *Scrophulariae Radix* (Xuan Shen), bitter and cold; *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Sheng Gan Cao), sweet and cold, to clear fire and tonify Qi, as Ministers; *Fortunellae Fructus* (Lian Qiao), *Arctii Fructus* (Niu Bang Zi), and *Menthae Haplocalycis Herba* (Bo He Ye), bitter, pungent, and neutral; *Isatidis Radix* (Ban Lan Gen), bitter and cold; *Stemonitis Radix* (Ma Bo) and *Bombyx Batryticatus* (Bai Jiang Can), bitter and neutral, to dissipate swelling, detoxify, and calm asthma, as Assistants; *Bupleuri Radix* (Sheng Ma) and *Bupleuri Radix* (Chai Hu), bitter and neutral, to unblock Shaoyang and Yangming meridians; *Platycodonis Radix* (Jie Geng), acrid and warm, acting as a boat/oar to prevent downward movement. All made into fine powder. Half mixed with water and taken frequently; half formed into pills with honey for sucking. Cure achieved after finishing. The Master sighed: "The past cannot be追回, but the future can be reached. I wrote formulas for all other patients, saving many lives. People said this formula was made by Heaven and Man," so it was carved on stone for eternity.
Ingredients: *Scutellariae Radix* (Huang Qin, 0.5 liang), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huang Lian, 0.5 liang), *Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma* (Renshen, 3 qian), *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Ju Hong, 1 qian, white pith removed), *Scrophulariae Radix* (Xuan Shen, 1 qian), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Sheng Gan Cao, 1 qian), *Fortunellae Fructus* (Lian Qiao), *Arctii Fructus* (Niu Bang Zi, 3 qian), *Isatidis Radix* (Ban Lan Gen, 1 qian), *Stemonitis Radix* (Ma Bo, 1 qian), *Bombyx Batryticatus* (Bai Jiang Can, 0.7 qian, fried), *Bupleuri Radix* (Sheng Ma, 0.7 qian), *Bupleuri Radix* (Chai Hu, 0.7 qian), *Platycodonis Radix* (Jie Geng, 2 qian). This formula combines *Sijunzi Tang*, *Shengma Tang*, and *Xiangsu San*. *Sijunzi Tang* governs Qi; *Shengma Tang* resolves muscle layer, reduces fever, releases exterior; *Xiangsu San* assists the exterior-interior action of the other two. The formula is slightly cool, suitable for heat syndromes. Suitable for those living in southern miasma areas or experiencing winter yang deficiency. Caution in frail/cold constitutions or damaged/deficient syndromes. Generally, Qi-deficient cold types taking too much Renshen may increase cold; Qi-deficient heat types taking too much Bai Zhu may increase heat. This formula contains Gan Ge, Sheng Ma, Xiang Fu Zi, etc., mostly cold-natured; judgment is required.
