长发涂香油方（出自《圣惠方》）
配方：松皮二两，天雄二两（去心），莽草一两，秦艽一两（去苗），独活二两，川乌头二两，川椒二两（去目），白芷二两，川芎二两，辛夷二两，甘松一两，零陵香一两，牛膝一两（去苗），松叶半斤，杏仁二两（用汤浸泡去皮）。以上药材细细切碎。用五升醋浸泡一夜，滤出药渣。用生乌麻油六斤，在锅中小火煎至沸腾。等到白芷颜色变成焦黄色，膏即制成。用绵布过滤去除药渣，装入瓷器中。按照涂香油的方法，随意涂抹，以头发长出为度。
生发膏（出自《圣惠方》）
配方：细辛、防风、续断、川芎、皂荚、柏叶、辛夷仁各一两，寄生二两，泽兰、零陵香各一两，桑叶（切六合），乌麻油四大升，白芷六两。以上药材用苦酒、桑根汁、韭根汁浸泡一夜，用绵布包裹后煎煮。小火煎制“三上三下”（即加热、冷却、再加热交替三次），直到白芷颜色变黄，去除药渣，过滤后装入容器中。用来涂抹按摩头发，每天三到四次。另一版本没有用苦酒浸泡。
生发膏（另一方）
配方：胡麻油一升，雁脂一合，丁香、甘松香各一两半，吴藿香、细辛、花椒各二两，泽兰、竹叶各一两。以上药材切碎，用醋浸泡一夜，用油脂煎煮“三上三下”，膏成后去渣。涂抹头发及头顶。敷药时忌吹风。
令发速长而黑方（出自《圣惠方》）
配方：乌喙三两（去皮脐，生用），莽草三两，续断三两，皂荚二两（去黑皮及子），泽兰三两，白术三两，细辛三两，辛夷一两，柏叶一两，防风一两，竹叶一两，杏仁三两，猪脂二斤。同煎至药色焦黄，去渣，装入瓷器中。每次使用前先洗净头，再涂抹。三十天见效。
治头风乌喙膏，能使头发快速生长、变黑且光亮润泽。
配方：乌喙、莽草、石南草、续断、皂荚（去皮子煎）、泽兰、白术各二两，辛夷仁一两。以上药材切碎，用醋浸泡一夜。取屋溜水（屋檐滴下的雨水）七斗，从西端开始，在第七处屋檐下埋藏药袋。三十天后药成。小儿需刮头，每天涂三次；成人需洗头，每天涂一次，效果显著。
莲子草膏，治疗发须脱落，使重新生长并兼有黑润效果（出自《圣惠方》）。
配方：莲子草汁二升，熊白脂一大合，猪膏一合，生麻油一合，柏白皮三合，山韭根切三合，瓦衣切五合。以上药材用铜器煎煮，膏成后去渣收贮。每次梳头时涂抹膏体，使头发再生且黑亮。
治妇人长发方。
配方：零陵香、白芷、蔓荆子、榛树、生附子、藿香各一两，荆芥枝半两。以上药材切碎，用绵包扎好放入瓶内。用一斤香油浸泡，再用纸封口，埋入地下半个月。取出后刷涂头发。
近效生发方（出自《圣惠方》）
配方：蔓荆子、青葙叶、莲子草各一分，附子二枚，碎头发灰二匕。以上药材用酒浸泡，放入瓷器中封闭。经过十四天药成。用乌鸡脂调和涂抹。先用淘米水洗头，然后敷药。几天后头发可长高一尺。
生发墙衣散（出自《圣惠方》）
配方：墙衣五合（晒干捣末），铁精一合，合欢木灰二合，水萍末三合。以上药材捣研，用生油和少许调成膏状。涂抹于不生发的地方，日夜各涂一次，即可生发，有效。
令发易长方（出自《圣惠方》）
配方：莲子草（绞汁取三升），麻油二升，羊乳一升，猪脂一升。先将乳汁煮沸一次，再加入油脂等，再煎煮两三沸。放冷后，用瓷盒贮存。每天涂抹头发，七天之后不长的也会全部长出。
长发方（出自《圣惠方》）
配方：蔓荆子三升，大附子二枚。用酒一斗二升浸泡，装入瓷器中，密封二十天药成。先用灰汁洗净头发，擦干。取乌鸡脂煎后涂抹，一天三次。总共经过七天后，再用药涂抹，每天三四次，使头发润泽。用汁液梳理头发，十天长一尺。不要涂在脸上，恐怕会长毛。另一版本没有乌鸡脂。
令发易长（出自《圣惠方》）
配方：熊脂一两，蔓荆子一两。两者混合均匀，用醋调匀涂抹。头发就会逐渐生长。
常用长发药。
用乱发洗净晒干，用油煎至焦黄，就在钵内细研成膏状，擦拭可使头发生长。又一种方法：凡是妇女秃发，就用汉椒四两，用酒浸在密室中坐擦，头发自然会长。
紫金油
配方：鲫鱼胆二十枚，铁片一片重五钱，诃子五枚（煨去核），郁金二枚锉碎，黄芩半两锉碎，黑豆一大合，紫草半两，零陵香半两，生姜汁一大合。混合均匀，装入生绢袋子。取竹沥油四两，麻油十二两，将药袋放入其中，在有油的瓷盒内浸泡，密封放在凉处。半个月后取出，每天搽头，百日内头发如漆般黑亮。
永香芎油，治疗头风导致脱发不长。
配方：秦椒、白芷、川芎各半两，蔓荆子、附子、零陵香各二钱半。细细切碎，用绵布包裹。用生麻油半斤，在瓷器内浸泡三七二十一天。涂抹于头发稀少处，不可滴到脸上。可祛风生发。
柏枝油
配方：用干燥的柏枝、秦椒、半夏各三两。切碎，用水两碗，煎至半碗，加入少许蜂蜜，再煎一两沸。每次使用时，加入少许生姜汁调匀，擦在无发处。每天两次。可祛风生发。
乌韭方
配方：用乌韭石衣，烧成灰，洗头可使头发生长。这是生长在阴暗潮湿处山石上的苔藓，长的可达四五寸。
生毛发。
用白犬乳汁涂孔中，即生黑发。若想不生，拔去毛发，用鳖膏涂之，即不生矣。

Prescriptions:
Huma Gao (Sesame Oil Ointment) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Promotes rapid hair growth and makes hair black and lustrous.
Ingredients: Sesame oil (1 sheng), pig fat rendered in the twelfth lunar month (1 sheng), black chicken fat (1 he), Clove (1.5 liang), Casia Blossom (Gan Song Xiang) (1.5 liang), Costus Root (Ling Ling Xiang) (2 liang), Ligusticum Wallichii (Chuan Xiong) (2 liang), Bamboo Leaves (2 liang), Asarum (Xi Xin) (2 liang), Sichuan Pepper (Chuan Jiao) (2 liang, remove seeds), Alfalfa Fragrance (Mu Xu Xiang) (2 liang), Agrimony Fruit (Ze Lan Zi) (1 liang each), Saposhnikovia Divaricata (Fang Feng) (3 liang, remove rhizome tip), Apricot Kernel (Xing Ren) (3 liang, soak in hot water, remove skin and tips, use double kernels), Illicium Anisatum (Mang Cao) (2 liang), Biota Orientalis Leaf (Bai Ye) (3 liang).
Preparation: Finely chop all herbs. Soak in rice vinegar overnight. Strain out the herbs and place them into the sesame oil, chicken fat, and pig fat. Simmer over low heat until the Angelica Dahurica (Bai Zhi) turns scorched yellow, indicating the ointment is ready. Filter through cotton cloth to remove dregs. Store in a porcelain container. Cleanse the scalp before application. Apply twice daily. Hair will grow within thirty days.
Changfa Tu Xiangyou Fang (Hair-Lengthening Lubricating Oil Prescription) [from *Shenghui Fang*]:
Ingredients: Pine Bark (Song Pi) (2 liang), Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root Processed Product (Tian Xiong) (2 liang, remove core), Illicium Anisatum (Mang Cao) (1 liang), Gentiana Macrophylla (Qin Jiao) (1 liang, remove seedlings), Actaea Spicata (Du Huo) (2 liang), Aconitum Carleilii (Chuan Wu Tou) (2 liang), Sichuan Pepper (Chuan Jiao) (2 liang, remove seeds), Angelica Dahurica (Bai Zhi) (2 liang), Ligusticum Wallichii (Chuan Xiong) (2 liang), Magnolia Flower (Xin Yi) (2 liang), Casia Blossom (Gan Song) (1 liang), Costus Root (Ling Ling Xiang) (1 liang), Achyranthes Bidentata (Niu Xi) (1 liang, remove seedlings), Pine Needles (Song Ye) (0.5 jin), Apricot Kernel (Xing Ren) (2 liang, soak in hot water, remove skin).
Preparation: Finely chop all herbs. Soak in 5 sheng of vinegar overnight. Strain out the herbs. Add 6 jin of raw Sesame Oil (Ma You) to a cauldron and boil over gentle heat until bubbling. Continue heating until the Angelica Dahurica (Bai Zhi) turns scorched yellow, indicating the ointment is ready. Filter through cotton cloth to remove dregs. Store in porcelain vessels. Apply as needed for lubrication until hair grows.
Shengfa Gao (Hair-Growth Ointment) [from *Shenghui Fang*]:
Ingredients: Asarum (Xi Xin), Saposhnikovia Divaricata (Fang Feng), Dipsacus Asper (Xu Duan), Ligusticum Wallichii (Chuan Xiong), Gleditsia Sinensis (Zao Jia), Biota Orientalis Leaf (Bai Ye), Magnolia Flower (Xin Yi Ren) (1 liang each), Taxillus Chinensis (Ji Sheng) (2 liang), Agrimony (Ze Lan), Costus Root (Ling Ling Xiang) (1 liang each), Mulberry Leaf (Sang Ye) (cut, 6 he), Raw Sesame Oil (Wu Ma You) (4 da sheng), Angelica Dahurica (Bai Zhi) (6 liang).
Preparation: Soak the above herbs overnight in bitter wine (Ku Jiu), mulberry root juice, and leek root juice. Wrap in cotton cloth and simmer. Use the "three up, three down" method (intermittent heating and cooling) over low heat until the Angelica Dahurica (Bai Zhi) turns yellow. Remove dregs and filter into a container. Massage onto the hair and scalp two to three times daily. Alternative version omits soaking in bitter wine.
Shengfa Gao (Another Formula):
Ingredients: Sesame Oil (Hu Ma You) (1 sheng), Goose Fat (Yan Zhi) (1 he), Clove (Ding Xiang), Casia Blossom (Gan Song Xiang) (1.5 liang each), Litsea Cubeba (Wu Huo Xiang), Asarum (Xi Xin), Sichuan Pepper (Jiao) (2 liang each), Agrimony (Ze Lan), Bamboo Leaves (Ye) (1 liang each).
Preparation: Chop herbs, soak in vinegar overnight, and simmer in fats using the "three up, three down" method. Remove dregs when ready. Apply to hair and crown. Avoid wind exposure during application.
Ling Fa Su Zhang Er Hei Fang (Formula for Rapid Black Hair Growth) [from *Shenghui Fang*]:
Ingredients: Aconitum Carleilii (Wu Hui) (3 liang, remove skin and navel, raw), Illicium Anisatum (Mang Cao) (3 liang), Dipsacus Asper (Xu Duan) (3 liang), Gleditsia Sinensis (Zao Jia) (2 liang, remove black skin and seeds), Agrimony (Ze Lan) (3 liang), Atractylodes Macrocephala (Bai Zhu) (3 liang), Asarum (Xi Xin) (3 liang), Magnolia Flower (Xin Yi) (1 liang), Biota Orientalis Leaf (Bai Ye) (1 liang), Saposhnikovia Divaricata (Fang Feng) (1 liang), Bamboo Leaves (Zhu Ye) (1 liang), Apricot Kernel (Xing Ren) (3 liang), Pig Fat (Zhu Zhi) (2 jin).
Preparation: Decoct together until ingredients turn scorched yellow. Remove dregs and store in porcelain. Wash scalp thoroughly before each use. Efficacy observed within thirty days.
Zhi Tou Feng Wu Hui Gao (Aconite Ointment for Head Wind): Promotes rapid, black, shiny hair growth.
Ingredients: Aconitum Carleilii (Wu Hui), Illicium Anisatum (Mang Cao), Cotoneaster Australis (Shi Nan Cao), Dipsacus Asper (Xu Duan), Gleditsia Sinensis (Zao Jia, remove skin/seeds and decoct), Agrimony (Ze Lan), Atractylodes Macrocephala (Bai Zhu) (2 liang each), Magnolia Flower Kernel (Xin Yi Ren) (1 liang).
Preparation: Chop herbs and soak in vinegar overnight. Place the wrapped herb bundle under the seventh eavesdrop from the west end of a roof gutter, collecting seven dou of rainwater. Bury for thirty days until the medicine is ready. For children, shave the head and apply three times daily; for adults, wash the head and apply once daily. Highly effective.
Lianzi Cao Gao (Portulaca Ointment): Treats baldness of hair and beard, promoting regrowth with blackness and luster [from *Shenghui Fang*].
Ingredients: Portulaca Juice (Lian Zi Cao Zhi) (2 sheng), Bear White Fat (Xiong Bai Zhi) (1 da he), Pig Fat (Zhu Gao) (1 he), Raw Sesame Oil (Sheng Ma You) (1 he), Biota Cortex (Bai Bai Pi) (3 he), Mountain Leek Root (Shan Jiu Gen) (cut, 3 he), Roof Tile Dust/Slurry (Wa Yi) (cut, 5 he).
Preparation: Decoct in a copper vessel until ointment forms. Remove dregs and store. Apply while combing hair to promote regrowth and blackness.
Zhi Fu Ren Chang Fa Fang (Formula for Women's Long Hair):
Ingredients: Costus Root (Ling Ling Xiang), Angelica Dahurica (Bai Zhi), Vitex Trifolia (Man Jing Zi), Corylus heterophylla (Zhen Shu), Raw Aconitum Carleilii (Sheng Fu Zi), Litsea Cubeba (Huo Xiang) (1 liang each), Schizonepeta Stem (Jing Jie Zhi) (0.5 liang).
Preparation: Chop herbs, wrap in cotton, and place in a bottle. Soak in 1 jin of fragrant oil. Seal with paper and bury underground for half a month. Retrieve and brush onto hair.
Jin Xiao Sheng Fa Fang (Near-Efficacy Hair-Growth Formula) [from *Shenghui Fang*]:
Ingredients: Vitex Trifolia (Man Jing Zi), Celosia Leaf (Qing Xiang Ye), Portulaca (Lian Zi Cao) (1 fen each), Aconitum Carleilii (Fu Zi) (2 pieces), Ash of Crushed Hair (Sui Tou Fa Hui) (2 bi).
Preparation: Soak in wine, seal in a porcelain vessel. After fourteen days, the medicine is ready. Mix with black chicken fat for application. Wash scalp with starchy water first, then apply. Hair may grow one chi in a few days.
Shengfa Qiang Yi San (Hair-Growth Wall Slime Powder) [from *Shenghui Fang*]:
Ingredients: Wall Slime/Dust (Qiang Yi) (5 he, dried and powdered), Iron Essence (Tie Jing) (1 he), Albizia Wood Ash (He Huan Mu Hui) (2 he), Duckweed Powder (Shui Ping Mo) (3 he).
Preparation: Grind and mix with raw Sesame Oil (Ma You) to form a paste. Apply to bald areas. Apply day and night; hair will grow. Effective.
Ling Fa Yi Zhang Fang (Formula for Easy Hair Growth) [from *Shenghui Fang*]:
Ingredients: Portulaca Juice (Lian Zi Cao Zhi) (3 sheng), Sesame Oil (Ma You) (2 sheng), Goat Milk (Yang Ru) (1 sheng), Pig Fat (Zhu Zhi) (1 sheng).
Preparation: Boil milk once, then add fats and simmer for two or three boils. Cool and store in a porcelain box. Apply daily to hair. Within seven days, hair not yet grown will fully grow.

Preparation: Mix uniformly, place in a raw silk bag. Take 4 liang of Bamboo Sap Oil (Zhu Li You) and 12 liang of Sesame Oil (Ma You). Immerse the bag in the oils within a porcelain container. Seal tightly and store in a cool place for half a month. Apply daily to the head; within one hundred days, hair becomes black as lacquer.
Yongxiang Xiong You (Perfumed Ligusticum Oil): Treats hair loss due to head wind.
