The manifestations of Liver Distension (Gan Zhang) include fullness under the hypochondrium, with pain radiating to the lower abdomen. This is because the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian originates at the big toe, descends to reach the lower abdomen, flanks the stomach, pierces through the diaphragm, and spreads over the hypochondriac region.
Fupenzi Wan (Reevesia Fruit Pill) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats Liver affected by Wind-Cold, presenting with a greenish-yellow complexion, distending pain in both hypochondria radiating to the lower abdomen, impaired tendon vessels, and stiffness/tightness in the back and shoulders.
[Ingredients] Fupenzi (Fructus Rubi), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, processed until cracked, umbilical root removed), Suanzaoren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae, lightly stir-fried), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, each 1 liang), Shugan Dihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, dried by baking, half liang).
[Preparation and Administration] Pound the ingredients, sieve into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, administered on an empty stomach with warm wine; rice soup may also be used.
Guiling Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Poria Decoction, also known as Bogan Baiziren San): Treats Liver affected by pathogenic factors, presenting with pain under both hypochondria radiating to the lower abdomen, chest and hypochondriac fullness, cyanotic complexion, and locked jaw (kou jin).
[Ingredients] Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi, coarse bark removed), Chifuling (Poria cum Radix Pini, black skin removed), Baiziren (Semen Biotae), Xixin (Herba Asari), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, tips removed, each 3 qian), Biejia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, vinegar-processed, skirt edge removed), [Text missing], Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, roasted and cut, 3 qian).
[Preparation and Administration] Coarsely pound and sieve the ingredients. Take 3 qian per dose, add one sheng of water and three jujubes, decoct together until reduced to 70%, strain, and take warm. No specific time restriction. Another version includes Shenfu (Poria with Pinellia Rhizome? Note: Shenfu usually refers to Poria with Stimulus or just Poria variant, here likely Poria with Stimulus or distinct variety) instead of Chifuling.
Zhuyu Tang (Cornus Pill): Treats Liver affected by pathogenic factors, presenting with distending fullness in both hypochondria, tendon vessel stiffness, and pain radiating to the lower abdomen.
[Ingredients] Zhuyu (Fructus Corni), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, sliced and baked), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis), Shanyu (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei, cut and baked), Xiongqiong (Radix Chuanxiong, each half liang), Shenggan Dihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Recens Preparata? Text says Shenggan, likely Dried Fresh or Prepared, baked), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, [Text missing]).
[Preparation and Administration] [Text missing, likely pounding/sieving], take 5 [qian/fen] per dose...
Sanfu San (Three Assistants Powder) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats pathogenic factors lodging in the Liver Meridian, causing attacking distension in both hypochondria, occasional pain radiating to the lower abdomen, and cold extremities (si zhi jue ni).
[Ingredients] Chifuling (Poria cum Radix Pini, black skin removed, 7 liang), Chishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra, 3 liang), Changpu (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii, whiskers removed), Shuqi (Herba Ephedrae? Or specific herb Shuqi), Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi, coarse bark removed, each 2 liang), Dansha (Cinnabar, separately ground).
[Preparation and Administration] Mix all ingredients evenly. Take [dose missing] per dose...
