Yangshen Tang (Sheep Kidney Decoction) (from Bencao), primarily treats kidney labor resulting in exhaustion of essence and sperm.
Take one pair of prepared sheep kidneys, remove the membrane, and cut finely. In soybean ferment juice (Chij), add Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis), rice, and knead according to usual methods. It can be made into a soup or congee for consumption.
Generally, the qi of bone-steaming heat in all men initially resides in the zang-fu organs, with the kidney being the first to receive the pathogen. Once the kidney receives the evil, symptoms such as dribbling urine, inauspicious dreams at night, continuous seminal emission, weakness in the lower body, heavy legs and knees with cold feet, loss of taste, and insufficient spirit occur. For any pathological manifestations arising from the kidney, one should first administer medicines that promote lung qi flow, allowing Metal qi to be smooth and descend to generate Water in the kidney. Only then should kidney-tonifying medicines be taken, ensuring the person remains stable. If deficiency labor causes insufficiency in the qi of all five zang organs.
To treat the kidney receiving labor qi, upper jiao congestion with heat, and lower body weakness, one should first take medicines that promote lung qi, enabling Metal to generate Water. (From Yang Zijian's Wanquan Huming Fang).
