Taiyin Shitu governs the Heaven (Taiyin Damp-Soil Qi presides over the first half of the year). Taiyang Hanshui resides in the Earth (Taiyang Cold-Water Qi presides over the second half of the year). The middle reveals Shaoyu Water Movement (the Central Movement is Shaoyu, indicating deficient Water Qi). The year's Water Qi is deficient. The transformation and movement of Qi occur later than the normal schedule. The record of "Dried Streams" states:
The Upper Palace (Earth Movement) is balanced. Orderly. Winter. Human beings correspond to Heaven and Earth.
The Qi of Heaven and Earth: Above, Taiyin is seen. The left intercalary position is Shaoyang. The right intercalary position is Shaoyin. Therefore, Earth Qi ascends, and its administration is solemn. Below, Taiyang is seen. The left intercalary position is Jueyin. Arising. Abdominal fullness, body swelling, distension, rebellion, cold reversal, and stiffness/tension. Thus, excess should be treated at high altitudes; deficiency should be treated at low altitudes. Excess should be addressed late; deficiency early. The benefit of Earth is the transformation of Qi. The people's Qi also follows this. Intercalary grains should be those of Tai Zheng (excessive Fire) and Tai Shang (excessive Metal). Once the year's Qi is balanced, do not seek the source of transformation. Only break the stagnant Qi of Water, preventing pathogenic factors from prevailing. Eat black grains (Xuan zhi gu) to preserve true essence. Eat intercalary Qi grains to protect spirit. For the year, it is suitable to regulate the upper with bitter-hot, the lower with bitter-salty, and the middle with bitter-harmonizing. Dry them and warm them.
Before the midpoint of the year, Heavenly Qi is governed by Taiyin. Where Taiyin arrives, there are clouds and rain. Its transformation follows its root. During this time, much rain occurs. The damp transformation is the administration of Taiyin. Earth Qi's main position is Shao Jiao Wood. Guest Qi is Shao Zheng Fire. Cold departs. Spring Qi becomes stiff and strong. Joints are not flexible. Body feels heavy, tendons become flaccid. It is appropriate to treat the Guest Qi of Jueyin. Tonify with pungent, drain with sour, soothe with sweet. Year grains use Shen (Millet). Intercalary grains use Dao (Rice). Then epidemic fevers prevail. Harvest them. Year grains use Ji (Foxtail Millet). Ten days plus some. Cold follows. Soothe with sweet. Sixty days plus some transformation. Earth Qi ascends and commands. People suffer from cold in the pores/skin. Sunlight causes grass and trees to yellow and fall, while movement and transformation hold on.
