Chishizhi (Red Halloysite):
Heavy and astringent, secures the Large Intestine and Small Intestine.
Sweet, warm, sour, and astringent. Capable of absorbing dampness, stopping bleeding, and securing the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner). (*Bencao Jingshu* states: For deficiency collapse of the Large and Small Intestines after purgation, only astringent agents can secure them; other astringent drugs are light and floating and cannot reach the Lower Jiao, whereas Chishizhi is heavy and astringent, entering directly into the Yin aspect of the Lower Jiao, thus making it an essential drug for chronic dysentery and diarrhea.) Treats intestinal wind, diarrhea, and dysentery. Treats metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding), leukorrhea, and spermatorrhea. Treats carbuncles, hemorrhoids, and ulcers, promoting wound closure and tissue regeneration, inducing labor, and expelling the placenta. (*Bencao Jingshu* states: It can remove evil blood; when evil blood transforms, the uterus is unobstructed. Li Dongyuan said: For retained placenta, astringent agents can induce its expulsion; furthermore, it secures the stomach and intestines with its converging ability to expel the placenta without the harsh purgative action.) Fine and delicate, enters the Qi aspect. (The five-colored Shizhis enter their respective Zang organs respectively.) Grind into powder. (Some occur in lumps.) Levigate with water.
Incompatible with Yuanhua (Genkwa Flos). Hostile to Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and Songzhi (Pini Resina). (For menorrhagia, equal parts of Chishizhi and Poguozhi (Psoraleae Fructus) ground into powder, taken with rice water, 2 qian.)
