Sui Sui Zi (Euphorbia lathyris)
The medicinal nature is acrid and warm. It can purge qi stagnation and blood stasis. Its substance is originally highly toxic. It completely eliminates water retention and accumulated结 (nodules/concretions). It enters the Liver and Lung meridians and the Large Intestine. Its beneficial action lies in clearing epidemic pathogens, turbidity, and foul matter. (Sui Sui Zi, also known as Qian Jin Zi, is acrid, warm, and toxic. It enters the Liver and Lung meridians. It promotes urination to break blood stasis, unblocks the Large Intestine, treats gu poison. Upon ingestion, it induces immediate diarrhea. It can expel all stagnant, turbid, and foul substances from the body. However, if used improperly, it causes rapid harm to the human body.)
Its efficacy in reducing swelling and softening hardness is extremely rapid. When used for dental purposes, it is toxic and has an acrid, cold taste. (The root of Yuzan Hua (Hosta plantaginea) is acrid, cold, and toxic. It enters the Kidney meridian. It softens hardness, reduces swelling, guides down impacted bones, and treats toothache caused by worms. Therefore, practitioners often use it in formulas for extracting teeth. However, it easily damages teeth, so caution should be exercised in its use.)
To penetrate bone and soften hardness, one must know that its taste is bitter and nature is warm. Its toxicity can eliminate accumulations. To facilitate childbirth and lubricate orifices, one must recognize its ability to move blood stasis and resolve bone impactions. Its descending action can widen and relieve the throat. (Ji Xing Zi, also known as Feng Xian Zi, is black in color, bitter, and warm. It enters the Kidney meridian. All seeds have a descending property; this seed's descending nature is particularly urgent, hence its name. Penetrating bone, softening hardness, facilitating childbirth, and lubricating orifices. Examining its properties, it enters the blood level, moves blood stasis, and descends qi. Thus, it can treat adult dysphagia (yige) and pediatric abdominal masses (piji). It can also repel insects, as no worms infest this herb, and bees and butterflies do not cross it. This indicates it is toxic. It seems unsuitable for consumption.)
Ingestion causes numbness like hemp, which can stop pain from sores and ulcers. It is acrid, warm, and highly toxic. It can disperse bi-syndrome obstruction and expel cold-induced asthma. (Feng Jia Hua, also known as Man Tuo Luo Hua (Datura metel), is acrid and warm. It enters the Lung meridian. It is highly toxic. It mainly treats severe wind-warm bi-syndrome and all kinds of pains. Ground into powder and taken with hot wine (approx. 1.5g), it induces numbness, making one feel dizzy and intoxicated. During incision or moxibustion, pain is not felt. As for causing madness upon ingestion, this may not necessarily be the case. In short, there are many medicines for treating diseases; there is no need to use such dangerous and harsh substances.)
Bi-syndrome, gout, and wind-cold require careful consideration before use. It is acrid, warm, and fiercely toxic; do not administer lightly. (Nao Yang Hua, also known as Yang Zhi Zhu (Rhododendron molle), causes sheep to stagger and die after ingestion, hence the name "Yang Bu Shi Cao" (Herb Sheep Do Not Eat). It is acrid, warm, and highly toxic. Its therapeutic functions are similar to those of Feng Jia Hua. Although ancient formulas for treating wind-bi and paralysis occasionally used it in wine infusions, often the efficacy is not seen, but disaster follows. How can it be used recklessly?)
