Honey: Sweet and neutral in nature, it moistens the lungs. It nourishes the dryness and constipation of the large intestine, facilitating difficult defecation. Its fragrant and slippery nature harmonizes the middle jiao (spleen and stomach), pleasing the stomach qi so that the skin and muscles naturally become lustrous. Raw honey detoxifies and relieves pain. Cooked honey (refined) soothes the spleen to tonify deficiency. (Honey is brewed by bees. White honey is of better quality. It is sweet, neutral, and non-toxic. It regulates the five zang organs, benefits the two bowels (large and small intestines), harmonizes the middle jiao, and relieves urgency. Toxins can be resolved, and pain can be stopped. These effects are all due to its sweet and moistening power. When raw, its nature is cool; when cooked, its nature is warm. Therefore, refined white honey can also tonify and benefit the spleen and stomach. Use it as appropriate.)
Beeswax: Pale in taste and slightly warm. It can secure leakage and incontinence caused by chronic dysentery. Sweet with astringent properties, it cures leukorrhea, cough, and flaccidity syndromes arising from deficiency. It protects the inner lining to calm the fetus. Its white color enters the Lung meridian. Applied to metal wounds, it stops bleeding; its astringent property promotes tissue regeneration. (There are two types of wax: insect wax and honey wax. Honey wax is the residue of honey; insect wax is produced by a certain small insect on trees, condensing on them, similar to Galla Chinensis (Wubeizi) or Dragon's Blood produced on tree branches. Both belong to the same category. The taste of both waxes is pale, sweet, and astringent, and their nature is warm. They enter the Lung and Stomach meridians. They treat Lung deficiency and nourish Stomach qi. For conditions such as cough, dysentery, seminal emission, and leukorrhea belonging to deficiency and collapse, this can be used to secure and astringe. In surgery, it is used to protect the inner lining and apply to metal wounds, for the same reason.)
Vespa nest (Lufengfang): Enters the Yangming meridian and has a toxic nature. It is sought for treating carbuncles (Dingchuang) and scrofula (Luoli). Its taste is salty and bitter, and its nature is neutral. It treats tinea, leprosy-like skin diseases, and stubborn wind pathogens. For toothache caused by wind and insects, rinsing with water infusion is effective. For deep-seated abscesses (Fugu yongju), prepared formulas may be selected. Although the *Shennong Bencao Jing* records its ability to treat convulsions, epilepsy, and various pathogenic factors, internal use should always be examined carefully and used with caution. (The Vespa nest grows among trees in mountains and forests, varying in size. Having absorbed the qi of dew and rain, it is named "Dew Vespa Nest." Its taste is salty and bitter, slightly sweet and pungent, its nature is neutral, and it is toxic. It enters the Yangming meridian. Whether taken internally or applied externally, its mechanism is using toxicity to combat toxicity, dispelling wind-bi, eliminating dead flesh, killing parasites, and treating sores. However, it is suitable only for external treatment. Although its functions can treat all kinds of deep-seated carbuncles, abscesses, breast cancer (Ruyan), etc., where toxins extend to the viscera, it can be used to draw out the toxin root. But since it is ultimately a toxic substance, one should not take chances by using it as an internal medicine.)
