KT(注:原文此处为异体字或脱漏,结合上下文推测可能指某种水鸟,如“鸬”或类似字,但依原文保留KT)主食之可去惊邪及短狐毒,亦可养以辟之(名医所录)。
Non-toxic, oviparous.
Owl Head (Chitou): Mainly treats head wind (Toufeng), dizziness, falling seizures, and epilepsy (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Names] Chixiu, Zhifu, Yuan. [Origin] According to *Piya*, the strange owl is the Xiuliu (owlet), with cat-like eyes and swallow-like forehead, resembling an eagle but white in color. Its cry predicts rain; it can gather various birds, sees nothing during the day, and flies at night to eat mosquitoes and midges, consuming creatures like Guiche. Zhuangzi referred to "Chixiu," which catches fleas at night and perceives fine hairs clearly, but closes its eyes during the day and cannot see hills and mountains. Lü of Lantian said: This is a fierce bird with an unpleasant voice. A poem states: "Gathering and stopping, fluttering in flight, becoming Xiao or Chi." This is also a type of Xiao (owl). The *Benjing* does not record its origin province; now it exists everywhere. [Usage] Head. [Color] Bluish-brown. [Taste] Salty. [Nature] Soft and flat. [Qi] The taste is stronger than the Qi; it belongs to Yang within Yin. [Treatment] [Therapy] [Food Therapy says] Meat treats epilepsy. [Combined Treatment] Two heads of flying owls combined with one jin of Lead Dross (Qiandan); the two ingredients are ground into powder.
Non-toxic, oviparous.
KT (Note: Original text contains a rare/missing character, retained as KT): Eating its meat mainly dispels fright pathogenic factors and the poison of Short Fox (Duanhu); raising it can also ward off such poisons (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Origin] *Tujing* says: KT has five-colored tail feathers with hair like a ship's rudder, smaller than a duck. *Linhai Yiwuzhi* says: KT is a waterbird that eats Duanhu. Duanhu is the Yu mentioned in *Shiji*; its shape resembles a turtle, holds sand in its mouth to shoot people, causing harm. ○ According to *Piya*: Shen Yue's *Jiaojufu* mentions "Autumn cold, KT long and short hood," which refers to this. It naturally eats Duanhu; in mountains and marshes, there is no longer toxic gas, hence Huai Fu says: "KT seeks evil and drives away harm." This bird is essentially an exorcist driving away harm in streams, hence named so. Like Zhen walking on the Big Dipper, [Name missing] printing by day, KT's incantation, and Guoluo's blessing, all are creatures with skills and wisdom. However, when swimming in streams, males are on the left, females on the right; even in groups, they have order and discipline. [Time] [Birth] No specific time. [Harvest] No specific time. [Usage] Meat. [Taste] (Missing in original).
Non-toxic, associated with Qingjiao, oviparous.
Banjiu (Spotted Dove/Pigeon): Mainly brightens the eyes; eating its meat in excess tonifies Qi and assists Yin and Yang. ○ There is also Qingjiao (Green Pigeon), neutral in nature, non-toxic, stabilizes the Five Zang organs, aids Qi deficiency and damage, expels pus, treats blood disorders, and addresses all types of sores, boils, and carbuncles (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Names] Banjiu, Bugu, Huangbo Hou Niao. [Origin] *Tujing* says: Exists everywhere. At Spring Equinox, it transforms into Huangbo Hou; at Autumn Equinox, it transforms into Banjiu. *Yanyi* says: Banjiu is Banjiu (Spotted Dove). Its nature is clumsy and it cannot build its own nest; the *Classic of Poetry* says: "The magpie builds the nest, the dove occupies it." This precisely refers to this. However, some are spotted, some unspotted, some gray, some small, some large. Although there are these few colors, their medicinal use is the same. The classics say it can transform humans; having raised them for years, one never sees them transform in spring and autumn. [Time] [Birth] Born in spring and summer. [Harvest] No specific time. [Usage] Meat. [Color] Gray-purple. [Taste] Sweet. [Nature] Flat and gentle. [Qi] Qi (Missing in original).
