Catalpa Wood (Qiū Mù), its content is attached under the entry for "Bark of Catalpa" (Zǐ Bái Pí).
Eucommia Bark / Eucommia Ulmoides? No, context suggests Sambucus or similar. The text says "Jie Gu Mu" (Bone-knitting Wood), commonly referring to *Sambucus* or *Eucommia* in ancient texts, but description "light, hollow, roots from cuttings" fits *Sambucus* (Elder) or *Paulownia*. However, standard TCM "Jie Gu Mu" often refers to *Eucommia ulmoides* bark or *Sambucus williamsii*. Given "hollow", it's likely *Sambucus* (Elderberry) or *Paulownia*. Let's stick to the name provided: Jie Gu Mu (Bone-knitting Wood). Old records do not specify its origin; now it grows near the capital. The tree is about one to two zhang high. Its flowers and leaves resemble those of *Ageratum conyzoides* (Lù Yīng) and water celery (Shuǐ Qín), hence another name is Mu Shuo (Wood Capsule). Its wood is light, void, and pithless; branches inserted into soil take root easily; households also plant it. Leaves treat malaria (Nuè); grind and squeeze juice to drink; recovery occurs after vomiting. Adults use seven leaves, children three; do not exceed this amount. Furthermore, under the entry for "Zhi Ju" (Ardisia/Choisya?), it states: The tree trunk is one chi in diameter, the wood is named Bai Shi (White Stone), leaves resemble mulberry or *Broussonetia papyrifera*, fruits are chambered like coral, with seeds at the tip; people eat them much; this is what the *Classic of Poetry · Xiao Ya* calls "Nan Shan You Gou". Lu Ji said: Gou is Zhi Gou. The tree resembles white poplar, found in mountains everywhere. Zhi Gou is not straight; edible, sweet as malt sugar, ripens in August-September, called Mu Mi (Wood Honey). Originally from the south, it can counteract alcohol toxicity; if used as house pillars, wine in the whole house becomes weak.
Zhi Ju (Ardisia japonica / Choysia ternata - usually Ardisia japonica in pharmacopoeia context for "Gou Qi" related entries, but here specifically Zhi Ju), its content is attached under the entry for "Jie Gu Mu".
Dendrobium nobile? No, "Mu Tian Liao" usually refers to *Dendrobium* species or *Polygonum*. Text says "Wei Xin, Wen, You Xiao Du". Treats Qi Jie Ji Ju (Qi stagnation and accumulations), Feng Lao Xu Leng (Wind-wasting deficiency-cold). Grows in valleys. Tree 2-3 zhang high, blooms March-April, flowers resemble *Broussonetia*; seeds collected May, spherical... Sū Gōng said: Vine-growing ones are Teng Tian Liao. Another small Tian Liao grows in Tianmu Mountain, Siming Mountain, tree like Gardenia, evergreen. Thus three types of Tian Liao. Different shapes, similar efficacy.
Xiao Tian Liao (Small Tian Liao), its content is attached under the entry for "Mu Tian Liao".
Chebula Terminalia / Chebulic Myrobalan (Hē Lí Lè), grows in Jiao and Ai Prefectures, now common in Lingnan, most abundant in Guangzhou. Plant resembles *Hibiscus mutabilis*, white flowers, fruits like Gardenia, green-yellow; skin and flesh adhere; harvested when ripe in July-August. Those with six ridges are best. *Lingnan Yiwu Zhi* says: In front of the Buddha Hall of Faxing Temple in Guangzhou, there are 40-50 trees, fruits very small, taste not astringent, all are six-ridged. Annual tribute comes only from this temple. Temple has an ancient well, tree roots dipped in water make it taste non-salty. When fruits ripen, if guests arrive, monks decoct soup to entertain. Method: 5 fresh Chebula fruits, 1 cun Licorice root, both broken, decoct with water from under the tree in the well, color like new tea. Now the temple is called Gan Ming, old trees 6-7 remain, well exists. Nanhai customs value this soup, but brewing methods vary. Chebula treats Dysentery (Li), not recorded in *Ben Jing*. Zhang Zhongjing treated Qi Li (Gas Dysentery) using 10 Chebula fruits wrapped in flour, roasted in ash until flour yellow, remove pit, powder, mix with porridge drink, taken once. Long-term formula: Chebula, aged Tangerine Peel (Chén Jú Pí), Magnolia Bark (Nòu Pò) each 3 da liang, powder, honey pills, size of wu zi, 20-30 pills per dose. Tang Liu Yuxi *Chuan Xin Fang* said: I suffered red-white dysentery, all medicines failed, long time no cure. Turned to white pus. General Linghu passed this method: 3 Chebula, 2 good ones roasted, peel taken; 1 raw, peel taken; all powdered, mixed with 1 liang boiling water, taken. Plain water ok. If pure watery dysentery, add 1 qian bi Licorice powder. If slight pus/blood, add 2 bi. If more blood, add 3 bi, all effective. Also, pit mixed with white honey, applied to eyes, treats wind-redness/astringency/pain, divine effect. Unripe fruits blown down by wind called Sui Feng Zi, dried and stored, highly prized, smaller better. For phlegm-cough and throat obstruction, hold 3-4 pieces in mouth, superior effect.
