治疗金创（金属利器造成的创伤）止血。驱除疼痛并排出刺入体内的异物。祛除风痹（因风邪引起的肢体麻木、疼痛或活动障碍）及体内气机阻滞。止住心烦、鼻出血、痈疽（一种严重的化脓性感染）和恶疮。用于妇人产后调理。长期服用可使人身体轻盈、延缓衰老、增加寿命。治疗风毒。疏通血脉。治疗游风（风邪游走不定）和风疹（皮肤出现红色丘疹、瘙痒的病症）。治疗妇人月经不调。治疗发背（背部发生的严重痈疽）。促进乳汁分泌。通利小便。排出竹木刺。
大抵王不留行在引导下乳时使用，是取其能够通利血脉，药性并走于血分以及阳明经、冲脉、任脉的药物特性。俗语有“穿山甲与王不留行，妇人服了乳汁长流”的说法，可见其药性通行而不留滞。

主治痹症、寒热往来、咳嗽。调和脾胃，益气。止泻，祛痰。压制时行疫病之气。去除热性咳嗽。混合米粉做成炒面食用，味道甜美。对于寒性咳嗽及痰多，能祛除肺中寒气，极大地提升肺气。治疗寒痰咳嗽，宜用佛耳草。治疗热痰咳嗽，宜用灯笼草。寒性咳嗽说的是表象，热性咳嗽说的是本质。大抵寒性咳嗽多是火郁结于内，而寒气覆盖于外所致。

Stops bleeding from metal wounds (Jinchuang). Drives out pain and removes embedded thorns. Dispels wind-bi (painful obstruction syndrome caused by wind pathogen) and internal blockage. Stops mental restlessness, epistaxis, carbuncles and sores (Yongju), and malignant ulcers. Used for postpartum conditions in women. Long-term use makes the body light, delays aging, and increases longevity. Treats wind toxicity. Unblocks blood vessels. Treats wandering wind (Youfeng) and wind-rash (Fengzhen). Regulates irregular menstruation in women. Treats back carbuncle (Fabai). Promotes lactation. Facilitates urination. Expels bamboo or wooden splinters.
Generally, Vaccariae Semen is used to guide milk secretion, taking advantage of its ability to promote blood circulation, acting on the blood aspect, as well as the Yangming channel, Chong vessel, and Ren vessel. There is a common saying: "When women take Pangolin scales and Vaccaria seeds, milk flows continuously." This shows that its nature is moving and does not stay stagnant.
(This plant is planted everywhere. It grows in clusters. The tall ones are two or three chi high. The stem is square, leaves are dense. The leaves resemble young pepper leaves but without serrations. The upper surface is green, the lower surface is pale. Small branches grow opposite at nodes. One branch has three leaves. Small yellow flowers bloom in the first lunar month, resembling Daphne odora flowers. They do not bear fruit.)

Mainly treats bi-syndrome, alternating chills and fever, and cough. Harmonizes the middle jiao, benefits qi. Stops diarrhea, resolves phlegm. Suppresses seasonal epidemic qi. Removes heat-induced cough. Mixed with rice flour to make roasted food, it tastes sweet. For cold-cough and phlegm, it dispels cold from the lungs and greatly raises lung qi. For cold-phlegm cough, Fohao Cao (Erhuancao) should be used. For hot-phlegm cough, Denglong Cao (Lantern Grass) should be used. Cold cough refers to the manifestation, while hot cough refers to the root. Generally, cold coughs are mostly due to fire constrained internally covered by external cold.

Xuncao is aromatic. Its acrid nature disperses and reaches upward. Therefore, it is used for evil qi in the heart and abdomen, toothache, and nasal congestion. The spleen and stomach favor aromatic flavors, which is said to nourish the nose. Taking too much causes wheezing because it consumes true qi.
