Huan Ku Zhi (Menstrual Panties Juice), can resolve arrow poison, and is effective in treating Shang Han (Cold Damage Syndrome), Nu Lao Fu (Female Relapse due to Sexual Exhaustion), and Yin Yang Yi (Transmission of Disease between Sexes). For male patients, use female's; for female patients, use male's. It is only efficacious when cut and applied to the genital area.
Those from virgin males and females possess strong medicinal power and are easy to effect. Ash made from menstrual cloth is miraculous in resolving arrow poison. Such substances must not be stored in the medicine cabinet, as they will render other medicines ineffective. However, one must know of them to save people from diseases.
There are many types of Yin Yang Yi disease, including transmission from man to man or woman to woman, which must also be known. For men, it is contracted through intercourse with a man; for women, through contact with a clean bucket with a woman. In these cases, one must not use Huan Ku Zhi where man uses woman or woman uses man. One must use man for man and woman for woman; only then can it be treated. There is none that is not miraculously effective.
Women's menstruation is most miraculous in treating Nu Lao Fu. Ash from menstrual garments can stop bleeding. Alchemists collect the first menstruation, mix it with Poria Cocos (Fuling, 茯苓), making it a divine medicine for longevity, and it can also treat consumptive disorders. This is an extremely efficacious medicine, yet also an extremely filthy substance. A superior practitioner uses it to attain immortality, is it not extremely efficacious? Whenever common people compound pills and powders, engage in auspicious events, or when children suffer from smallpox and sores, they must avoid taboos. If violated, auspicious turns to ominous, medicines lose efficacy, and sores/smallpox worsen, is it not extremely filthy? Yet this extremely filthy substance comes from an extremely divine source. Menstrual water is the water of Tian Gui (Heavenly Puberty). At age fourteen (two sevens), Tian Gui arrives, the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) becomes unblocked, and the Tai Chong Mai (Great Surge Vessel) becomes vigorous, causing menstrual water to flow downward on time. "Flowing downward on time" means arriving at its proper time. Thus, this water is generated by Tian Yi (One of Heaven), formed by Pre-Heaven Qi (Primordial Energy), transformed by Post-Heaven Qi (Acquired Energy), changing from formless to form. Therefore, it corresponds to the moon above and tides below, flowing once a month, harmonizing with the sea and Tai Yin (Lunar Energy). Within Yin lies Supreme Yang, capable of tonifying Yin and generating Yang. Alchemists beautify its name as Hong Qian (Red Lead), which is actually the first menstruation. This is an extremely divine object, why does it become extremely filthy? Generally, before menstrual water exits the vagina, it contains Supreme Yang Qi. Once menstrual water exits the vagina, it becomes the form of Supreme Yin, transforming Pure Yang into Pure Yin, consisting entirely of Killing Qi rather than Generating Qi. Generating Qi is approachable, while Killing Qi is difficult to offend, what doubt is there? This is why it becomes a filthy substance, not because it exits the vagina that it is called filthy.
One asks: Since menstrual water is a filthy substance, how do alchemists take it into Poria Cocos to extend life? How is the first menstruation different from ordinary menstrual water? I reply: Although the first menstruation exits the vagina, Yang has not yet fully transformed, unlike ordinary menstrual water which is entirely transformed into Yin, thus it can be used to connect Yang. Moreover, patients with tuberculosis/consumption have weak bodies, often possessed by evil spirits. They wish to borrow filth to drive away spirits, as spirits detest filth most, so using it is appropriate.
One asks: Menstrual blood can treat Nu Lao Fu, what is the principle? I reply: This is something predecessors had not expounded. Nu Lao Fu involves heat-toxin entering a healthy person. Originally, there is no need to use wind-dispersing and heat-resolving agents to damage the body's Yuan Qi (Original Energy). Therefore, using cloth stained with menstrual blood, washing its juice and drinking it, guides the heat downward, so the toxin is easily expelled. Since menstrual blood is naturally a downward-flowing substance and refuses to stay in the abdomen, guiding heat downward is the fastest method. It does not rely on supplementing the essence within Yin.
One asks: Since menstrual blood is a flowing substance, how can it stop bleeding? I reply: Any blood encountering repulsive/filthy substances can stop bleeding. Menstrual blood is precisely such a filthy substance, hence its efficacy. For sword wounds and arrow injuries, ancients all used it, based on this same principle.
