枯者名枯矾。甘草为使，恶牡蛎。又畏麻黄诸味。
酸，寒，无毒。燥湿坠痰，解毒生津，除虱杀虫，止血定痛。通二便而蚀恶肉，疗诸疮
而止
白痢。除骨中之痼热，平鼻中之息肉，息牙缝之血出，治中风之失音。治一切痈疽疔肿恶疮

矾石初生皆石，烧碎煎炼，乃成矾也。有白、黄、绿、黑、绛五色。今白矾出慈州、晋

干燥后的称为枯矾。以甘草作为引经药，与牡蛎相畏忌，又害怕麻黄等药物。
味酸，性寒，无毒。具有燥湿、坠痰、解毒、生津、除虱、杀虫、止血、定痛的功效。能通利大小便并腐蚀恶肉，治疗各种疮疡并止住白痢。能清除骨中的深层热邪，平复鼻中的息肉，止住牙缝出血，治疗中风导致的失音。治疗一切痈疽疔肿恶疮，以及各类瘰疬、疥癣、鼠瘘、喉痹、血衄（鼻出血等）的病患，还有癫痫及毒物伤害。
矾石初生时都是石头，经过烧碎煎炼后，才成为矾。有白、黄、绿、黑、绛五种颜色。现在的白矾产于慈州、晋州等地，染坊中使用较多，而医药方剂中较少使用。
漆疮引起瘙痒，用煎煮的汤液擦拭即可。（验方第一。）
牛皮癣，用石榴皮蘸取白矾粉末涂抹患处。（第二。）
嵌甲引发疮疡，将白矾烧成灰敷在患处。（第三。）
刀斧造成的金创，与黄丹粉末混合敷用。（第四。）
腹泻下痢，用枯矾，稍微加入飞白面和醋制成如豆大的丸药，每次服用三十丸，白痢用姜汤送服，赤痢用甘草水送服，效果奇妙。（第五。）

眼睛生出白膜，用白矾在铜器中加水煎煮，加入少量蜂蜜调和，用丝绸过滤后，取汁滴眼。（第七。）
目翳胬肉，每次取如米粒大的一枚放入眼中，每天使用。（第八。）
牙关紧闭不开，与盐一起涂抹则能张开。（第九。）
白带淋漓不止，炼蜜为丸，矾石大小如手指肚，纳入阴道内，应当痊愈。（第十。）

Dried alum is called calcined alum (Kufan). Licorice root (Gancao) serves as a guiding herb; it is incompatible with oyster shell (Muli) and fears Ephedra (Mahuang) and other substances.
It tastes sour, is cold in nature, and is non-toxic. It dries dampness, directs rebellious phlegm downward, detoxifies, generates fluids, removes lice, kills parasites, stops bleeding, and alleviates pain. It promotes the unblocking of both bowel and bladder movements, cauterizes foul flesh, treats various sores, and stops white dysentery. It clears deep-seated heat from the bones, flattens nasal polyps, stops bleeding from the gum spaces, and treats aphonia caused by wind-stroke. It treats all kinds of carbuncles, furuncles, malignant sores, scrofula, tinea, rat sores, throat obstruction, epistaxis, epilepsy, and injuries from toxic substances.
Alum stone initially forms as rock; after being crushed, roasted, and refined, it becomes alum. There are five colors: white, yellow, green, black, and crimson. Currently, white alum is produced in Cizhou and Jinzhou; it is widely used by dyers but rarely used in medical prescriptions.
For itching caused by lac poisoning, wash the area with a decoction. (Verified Formula No. 1.)
For psoriasis vulgaris, dip pomegranate peel into white alum powder and apply to the lesion. (No. 2.)
For ingrown nails causing sores, burn the alum to ash and apply. (No. 3.)
For traumatic wounds from knives or axes, mix with red lead (Huandan) powder and apply. (No. 4.)
For diarrhea and dysentery, use calcined alum, slightly mixed with refined white flour and vinegar to form pills the size of beans. Take thirty pills per dose. For white dysentery, swallow with ginger water; for bloody dysentery, swallow with licorice water. This is effective. (No. 5.)
For marginal blepharitis (rotten eyelid margins), soak 5 qian of calcined alum and 2 qian of malachite green in hot water, let it settle, and wash the eyes with the clear liquid. (No. 6.)
For leukoma (white membrane on the eye), boil white alum in water using a copper vessel, add a little honey, filter through silk, and apply the drops to the eyes. (No. 7.)
For corneal opacity and pterygium, insert one pill-sized piece into the eye daily. (No. 8.)
For trismus (lockjaw), apply mixed with salt to open the jaw. (No. 9.)
For persistent leukorrhea, refine honey into pills the size of a finger joint using alum stone, and insert them into the vagina until healed. (No. 10.)
For unconsciousness due to wind-phlegm (Yuze San context), administer calcined alum with ginger juice. (No. 11.)
For wind-epilepsy, take raw alum and fine tea leaves made into honey pills. (No. 12.)
For asthma/wheezing, take calcined alum with plain boiled water. (No. 13.)
For dysentery, take powders of calcined alum and gypsum. (No. 14.)
For watery diarrhea, take alum and Chinese gall made into flour-bound pills. (No. 15.)
For deafness with pain or discharge, insufflate calcined alum into the ear. (No. 16.)
For mouth ulcers, mix raw alum and borax with honey and apply. (No. 17.)
For acute sore throat, insufflate the powdered alum into the throat. (No. 18.)

For postpartum vaginal pain, crush alum, Chinese gall, and peach kernel together and apply. (No. 25.)

White Alum (1 liang), Tea Leaves (5 qian)
Make into honey pills the size of beans. One-year-old infants take one pill, washed down with tea. Long-term use will cause phlegm to exit via stool. (General Formulas No. 1.)
Another prescription: White Alum (3 liang), Curcuma aromatica (Yujin) (7 liang)
