This is the principal herb for treating malaria. It contains emetic properties; when taken together with Radix Glycyrrhizae, it inevitably induces vomiting. In reality, it should be used together with Rhizoma Pinelliae, Fructus Mume, and Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, so that malaria can be cured without inducing vomiting. It can treat all kinds of malaria. Therefore, various decoctions, wines, and pills for arresting malaria all use it. The yellow variety is superior. The efficacy of the leaves is the same as that of the roots.
