泄痢。归浓曰∶妊妇以鸡子、鲤鱼同食，令儿生疮；同糯米食，令儿生虫。时珍曰∶小儿患
痘疹，忌食鸡子，及闻煎食之气，令生翳膜。
【主治】除热火灼烂疮、痫 。可作虎魄神物（《本经》。弘景曰∶用欲 子（黄白混杂

【发明】时珍曰∶卵白象天，其气清，其性微寒；卵黄象地，其气浑，其性温；卵
则兼黄白而用之，其性平。精不足者补之以气，故卵白能清气，治伏热、目赤、咽痛诸疾；
形不足者补之以味，故卵黄能补血，治下痢、胎产诸疾；卵则兼理气血，故治上列诸疾也。
【附方】旧九，新二十二。天行不解已汗者∶用新生鸡子五枚，倾盏中，入水（一鸡子）
搅浑，别以水一升煮沸，投入鸡子微搅，才似熟则泻置碗中，纳少酱清，似变腥气，带热啜

【主治】目热赤痛，除心下伏热，止烦满咳逆，小儿下泄，妇人产难，胞衣不出，并生
吞之。醋浸一宿，疗黄胆，破大烦热（《别录》）。产后血闭不下，取白一枚，入醋一半搅服
（藏器）。和赤小豆末，涂一切热毒、丹肿、腮痛神效。冬月以新生者酒渍之，密封七日取

【发明】宗 曰∶产后血晕，身痉直，口、目向上牵急，不知人。取鸡子一枚，去壳分

【气味】甘，温，无毒。
【主治】醋煮，治产后虚及痢，小儿发热。煎食，除烦热。炼过，治呕逆。和常山末为
丸，竹叶汤服，治久疟（《药性》）。炒取油，和粉，敷头疮（《日华》）。
猝干呕者，生吞数枚，良。小便不通者，亦生吞之，数次效。补阴血，解热毒，治下痢，
甚验（时珍）。
【发明】时珍曰∶鸡子黄，气味俱浓，阴中之阴，故能补形。昔人谓其与阿胶同功，正
此意也。其治呕逆诸疮，则取其除热引虫而已。颂曰∶鸡子入药最多，而发煎方特奇。刘禹
锡《传信方》云∶乱发鸡子膏，治孩子热疮。用鸡子五枚，去白取黄，乱发如鸡子大，相和，
于铁铫中炭火熬之。初甚干，少顷即发焦，乃有液出。旋取置碗中，以液尽为度。取涂疮上，
即以苦参末粉之。顷在武陵生子，蓐内便有热疮，涂诸药无益，而日益剧，蔓延半身，昼
夜
号啼，不乳不睡。因阅本草发 条云∶合鸡子黄煎之，消为水，疗小儿惊热、下痢。注云∶
（接上文）如果症状未完全消除，隔天再服用一次。同时取田螺两枚，用滚开的酒煮熟食用，之后用白粥进行调理。（出自《积善堂经验方》）
小儿腹胀、面色萎黄消瘦：用干鸡屎一两，丁香一钱，研成细末，用蒸饼糊制成如小豆大小的丸剂。每次用米汤送服十丸，每日三次。（出自《活幼全书》）
心腹部的鳖瘕及陈旧性积聚，以及突然发作的瘕病：用米饭喂养白色公鸡以获取粪便，与人的小便一同在瓦器中熬煮至黄色，研成细末。每次服用一方寸匕的量，用温酒送服，每日四到五次，以症状消除为度。或者用膏脂喂养米饭来喂鸡，效果更佳。（出自《集验方》）
因吃生米而形成的瘕病：喜欢吃生米，如果不给吃，口中就会流出清水。用鸡屎和上等白米各半合，炒熟后研成细末，用水一钟调匀服用。过一段时间后，会吐出像米粒形状的东西，病就好了。从前慎道恭患此病，饥饿消瘦如同劳损之症，蜀地僧人道广用此方治愈了他。（出自《医说》）
反胃吐食：取乌骨鸡一只，只给水喝四五天，不给食物。将五步蛇两条，用竹刀切好喂鸡吃。等鸡排泄粪便后，取出阴干研成细末，用水泛丸如粟米大小。每次服用一分，用桃仁汤送服。服用五到七次即可痊愈。（出自《证治发明》）
误食各种蔬菜中毒导致发狂，上吐下泻濒死：用鸡屎烧成灰末，用水送服一方寸匕。（出自葛氏方）
石淋疼痛：取鸡屎的白色部分，在阳光下晒至半干，炒香后研成细末。用酸浆水送服一方寸匕，每日两次，应当能排出结石。（出自《古今录验》）
小儿血淋：取鸡屎尖端白色如粉的部分，炒熟研细，用糊制成如绿豆大小的丸剂。每次服用三到五丸，用酒送服，四五次见效。

破伤中风：腰脊向后反张，牙关紧闭，四肢强直。用鸡屎白一升，大豆五升，一起炒黄，趁热浇上酒，稍微烹煮让豆子沉淀。根据酒量饮用，取汗并避风。（出自《经验后方》）
产后中风：牙关紧闭，抽搐，角弓反张。黑豆二升半，同鸡屎白一升炒熟，加入清酒一升半，浸泡取出一升药液，加入竹沥服用，取汗。（出自《产宝》）
角弓反张，四肢不能随意运动，烦躁混乱欲死：取鸡屎白一升，清酒五升，捣碎筛选，混合后扬洒一千遍，然后饮用。成人服一升，儿童服五合，每日两次。（出自《肘后备急方》）

【发明】李时珍说：卵白象天，其气清，其性微寒；卵黄象地，其气浑，其性温；全卵则兼黄白而用之，其性平。精不足的人补气，所以卵白能清气，治疗伏热、目赤、咽痛诸疾；形不足的人补味，所以卵黄能补血，治疗下痢、胎产诸疾；全卵则兼理气血，所以治疗上述诸疾。
【附方】旧方九个，新方二十二个。天行病不解已经发过汗的：用新生鸡蛋五个，倒在杯中，加水（一个鸡蛋的量）搅浑，另外用水一升煮沸，投入鸡蛋微搅，刚似熟则倒置碗中，加少许酱清，似变腥气，带热喝下，盖被令汗出即愈。（许仁则方）天行呕逆，食入即吐：鸡蛋一枚，水煮三到五沸，冷水浸一会儿，吞服。（《外台秘要》）
三十六黄救急方：用鸡蛋一颗，连壳烧灰，研细加醋一合温之，顿服，鼻中出虫为效。身体极黄的，不过三枚，神效。（《外台秘要》）
白虎风病：陈藏器说：取鸡蛋擦拭病处，咒愿，送到粪堆头上，不超过三次痊愈。白虎是粪神，爱吃鸡蛋。
身面肿满：鸡蛋黄白相和，涂在肿处。干了再上。（《肘后备急方》）
年深哮喘：鸡蛋略敲损，浸在尿缸中三、四天，煮食，能去风痰。（《集成》）
心气作痛：鸡蛋一枚打破，醋二合调匀，暖过顿服。（《肘后备急方》）
小儿疳痢肚胀：用鸡蛋一个开孔，入巴豆一粒（去皮），轻粉一钱，用纸五十重裹，于饭甑上蒸三次，放冷去壳研，入麝香少许，糊和丸米粒大。食后温汤下二丸至三丸。（《经验方》）
预解痘毒：保和方：用鸡蛋一枚，活地龙一条入卵内，饭上蒸熟，去地龙，给小儿吃。每年立春日吃一枚，终身不出痘。
李氏方：用鸡蛋一枚，童便浸七日，水煮食之，永不出痘。
李捷方：用头生鸡蛋三、五枚，浸厕坑内五、七日，取出煮熟与食，数日再食一枚，永不出痘。（徐都司得于浙人之方）
痘疮赤瘢：鸡蛋一个（酒醅浸七日），白僵蚕二七枚捣末，和匀，揩赤涂之，甚效。（《太平圣惠方》）
雀卵面皯：鸡蛋醋浸令坏，取出敷之。（《普济方》）妊娠时疾令胎不伤：用鸡蛋七枚，纳井中令冷，取出打破吞之。（《子母秘录》）
病欲去胎：鸡蛋一枚，入盐三指撮，服。（张文仲方）胎动下血：陈藏器说：鸡蛋二枚打破，以白粉和如稀粥，顿食之。
子死腹中：用三家鸡蛋各一枚，三家盐各一撮，三家水各一升，同煮。令妇东向饮之，立出。（《千金方》）
产后血多不止：乌鸡蛋三枚，醋半升，酒二升，和搅，煮取二升，分四服。（《拾遗》）
头风白屑：新下乌鸡蛋三枚，沸汤五升搅，作三度沐之，甚良。（《集验方》）
腋下狐臭：鸡蛋两枚，煮熟去壳，热夹，待冷，弃之三叉路口，勿回顾。如此三次效。（《肘后备急方》）
解野葛毒已死者：以物开口后，灌鸡蛋三枚，须臾吐出野葛，乃苏。（《肘后备急方》）
胡蔓草毒：即断肠草。一叶入口，百窍流血。惟急取凤凰胎（即鸡蛋抱未成雏者，已成者不用）研烂，和麻油灌之。吐出毒物乃生，少迟即死。（《岭南卫生方》）
痈疽发背：初作，及经十日以上，肿赤热，日夜疼痛，百药不效者。用鸡蛋一枚，新狗屎如鸡蛋大，搅匀，微火熬令稀稠得所，捻作饼子，于肿头上贴之，以帛包抹。时时看视，觉饼热即易，勿令转动及歇气，经一宿定。如日多者，三日贴之，一日一易，至瘥乃止。此方秽恶，不可施之贵人。一切诸方皆不能及，但可备择而已。（《千金方》）
蛛蝎蛇伤：鸡蛋一个，轻敲小孔合之，立瘥。（《兵部手集》）
蠼螋尿疮：同上法。身体发热不拘大人、小儿：用鸡蛋三枚，白蜜一合和服，立瘥。（《普济方》）
【气味】甘，微寒，无毒。
【主治】目热赤痛，除心下伏热，止烦满咳逆，小儿下泄，妇人产难，胞衣不出，并生吞之。醋浸一宿，疗黄疸，破大烦热（《别录》）。产后血闭不下，取白一枚，入醋一半搅服（陈藏器）。和赤小豆末，涂一切热毒、丹肿、腮痛神效。冬月以新生者酒渍之，密封七日取出

下痢赤白：生鸡蛋一个，取白摊连纸上日干，折作四重，包肥乌梅十个，安熨斗中，以白炭烧存性，取出碗覆，冷定研末，入水银粉少许和匀。大人分二服，小儿三服，空心井华水调下。如觉微利，不须再服。（《类证》）
蛔虫攻心，口吐清水：以鸡蛋一枚去黄，纳好漆入鸡蛋壳中和合。仰头吞之，虫即出也。（《古今录验》）
五种遁尸：其状腹胀，气急冲心，或踊起，或牵腰脊。以鸡蛋白一枚，顿吞之良。（《千金方》）
咽塞鼻疮及干呕头痛，食不下：用鸡蛋一枚，开一窍，去黄留白，着米酢，小火顿沸，取下更顿，如此三次。乘热饮之，不过一、二度即愈。（《广济方》）
面生疮：鸡蛋，以三岁苦酒浸之三宿，待软，取白涂之。（《肘后备急方》）
汤火烧灼：鸡蛋清和酒调洗，勤洗即易生肌。忌发物。或生敷之亦可。（《经验秘方》）
头发垢腻：鸡蛋白涂之，少顷洗去，光泽不燥。（《濒湖》）面黑令白：鸡蛋三枚，酒浸，密封四七日。每夜以白敷面，如雪白也。（《普济方》）涂面驻颜：鸡蛋一枚，开孔去黄留白，入金华胭脂及朱砂少许，纸封，与鸡抱之，俟别卵抱出，干以涂面。洗之不落，半年尚红也。（《普济方》）
【气味】甘，温，无毒。
【主治】醋煮，治产后虚及痢，小儿发热。煎食，除烦热。炼过，治呕逆。和常山末为丸，竹叶汤服，治久疟（《药性论》）。炒取油，和粉，敷头疮（《日华子本草》）。
猝干呕者，生吞数枚，良。小便不通者，亦生吞之，数次效。补阴血，解热毒，治下痢，甚验（李时珍）。
【发明】李时珍说：鸡蛋黄，气味俱浓，阴中之阴，故能补形。昔人谓其与阿胶同功，正此意也。其治呕逆诸疮，则取其除热引虫而已。颂曰：鸡蛋入药最多，而发煎方特奇。刘禹锡《传信方》云：乱发鸡蛋膏，治孩子热疮。用鸡蛋五枚，去白取黄，乱发如鸡蛋大，相和，于铁铫中炭火熬之。初甚干，少顷即发焦，乃有液出。旋取置碗中，以液尽为度。取涂疮上，即以苦参末粉之。顷在武陵生子，蓐内便有热疮，涂诸药无益，而日益剧，蔓延半身，昼夜号啼，不乳不睡。因阅本草发条云：合鸡蛋黄煎之，消为水，疗小儿惊热、下痢。注云：

Infant abdominal distension, yellow complexion, and emaciation: Use one tael of dried chicken feces (Jishi) and one qian of丁香 (Dingxiang, Clove Bud), grind into powder, make pills the size of small beans using steamed dough balls. Take ten pills per dose with rice soup, three times a day. (From *Huoyou Quanshu*)
Abdominal biomas resembling a turtle (Biezhen) and old accumulations, as well as sudden onset of mass disorders: Feed white roosters with rice to collect feces, combine with human urine, and simmer in a clay vessel until yellow, then grind into powder. Take one fangcun bi (a square-inch measure) per dose with warm wine, four to five times a day, until the condition resolves. Feeding the chickens with paste-coated rice yields better results. Mass disorder caused by eating raw rice: A craving for raw rice, accompanied by clear saliva flowing from the mouth when denied. Use half he of chicken feces and half he of fine white rice, stir-fry until cooked, grind into powder, and take mixed with one zhong of water. After some time, material resembling rice grains will be vomited out, and the disease will heal. Previously, Shen Daogong suffered from this, appearing hungry and emaciated like consumptive disease; the Buddhist monk Daoguang from Shu cured him with this prescription. (From *Yishuo*)
Regurgitation and vomiting: Take one black-bone hen, provide only water for four to five days without food. Cut two five-step snakes (Wubu She) with a bamboo knife and feed them to the hen. Once the hen defecates, collect the feces, dry in shade, and grind into powder. Make pills the size of millet seeds using water. Take one fen per dose with peach kernel decoction. Healing occurs after five to seven doses. (From *Zhengzhi Faming*)
Madness due to poisoning from various vegetables, with severe vomiting and diarrhea approaching death: Burn chicken feces to ash, take one fangcun bi with water. (From Ge's Formula)
Lithuria (Stone strangury) pain: Take the white part of chicken feces, dry in the sun until half-dried, stir-fry until fragrant, and grind into powder. Take one fangcun bi with sour grain water, twice a day; stones should be passed. (From *Gujin Luyan*)
Pediatric hematuria: Take the tip of chicken feces that is white like powder, stir-fry and grind, make pills the size of mung beans with paste. Take three to five pills per dose with wine; effective after four or five doses.
Postpartum urinary incontinence: Burn chicken feces to ash, take one fangcun bi with wine. (From *Chanbao*)
Muscle spasms entering the abdomen: The patient's arms and legs are straight and rigid, pulse travels up and down, slightly wiry. Use chicken feces ground into powder, mix with six he of water and one fangcun bi, take warm. (Zhang Zhongjing)
Wind-stroke with cold-spasm, locked jaw, and unconsciousness: Take one sheng of chicken feces white part, stir-fry until yellow, add three sheng of wine, stir, clarify, and drink. (Ge's)
White Tiger Wind Pain: Meng Shen said: Spread rice on the affected area, let a red-crested rooster eat it. After a while, apply the hot feces to the area. After application, place the hen under the patient's bed.
Traumatic wind-stroke: Opisthotonos (back arching), tight teeth, locked jaw, rigid limbs. Use one sheng of chicken feces white part and five sheng of soybeans, stir-fry together until yellow, pour hot wine over them while hot, simmer slightly until beans settle. Drink according to tolerance, induce sweating, and avoid wind. (From *Jingyan Houfang*)
Postpartum wind-stroke: Locked jaw, convulsions, opisthotonos. Mix two and a half sheng of black soybeans with one sheng of chicken feces white part, stir-fry until cooked, add one and a half sheng of clear wine, steep to extract one sheng, add bamboo sap, and drink to induce sweating. Opisthotonos, limbs unresponsive, severe restlessness and distress: Take one sheng of chicken feces white part and five sheng of clear wine, pound and sieve, mix and toss a thousand times, then drink. Adults take one sheng, children take five he, twice a day. (From *Zhouhou*)
Pediatric locked jaw: Red face indicates Heart involvement; pale face indicates Lung involvement. Use chicken feces white part the size of a date, wrap in cotton, boil in one he of water for two boils, divide into two doses. Another method: Grind with wine and take. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
Pediatric lip sores: Burn chicken feces white part, grind into powder and apply. Replace if there is discharge. (From *Shenghui*)
Pediatric startled crying: Burn chicken feces white part to ash, take "two characters" amount (approx. 2 grams) with rice drink. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
Head wind and numbness: Use one sheng of chicken feces from black hens collected in the twelfth lunar month, stir-fry until yellow, grind into powder, place in a silk bag, and steep in three sheng of wine. Frequently take warm doses until intoxicated. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
Sore throat obstruction and swelling: Chew chicken feces white part and swallow the juice. (From *Qianjin*)
Toothache: Burn chicken feces white part to ash, wrap in cotton, and bite against the painful area for immediate relief. (From *Jingyan Houfang*)
Unstopping epistaxis: Take the white middle section of chicken feces, burn to ash, and insufflate into the nose. (Tang Shi *Jingyan Fang*)
Failure of teeth to erupt, *Puji*: Regardless of adult or child. Use fourteen pieces each of male and female chicken feces, roast and grind, add a little musk. First prick the gum to bleed, then apply the powder. Elderly persons will see results within twenty days; young persons within ten days. Another formula: Use only black hen feces (male and female), burn old hemp shoe soles to charred state, mix equal parts, add a little musk, rub continuously for three nights and days until warm. Li Chayuan Liangqing used this with success.
Deafness: Stir-fry half sheng of chicken feces white part, stir-fry one sheng of black beans, throw into two sheng of non-intoxicating wine while hot, drink, and induce sweating. Do not be surprised if ears sound like drums. (From *Waitai*)
Facial and bodily jaundice: Chicken feces white part, adzuki beans, and broomcorn millet, each two fen. Grind into powder. Divide into three doses, take with water; yellow fluid should be discharged. (From *Zhouhou Fang*)
Fetus dead in uterus: Twenty-one pieces of male chicken feces, two sheng of water, decoct to obtain five he, add rice and cook into porridge to eat; the fetus will be expelled. (From *Chanbao*)
Milk stasis and mastitis: Stir-fry and grind chicken feces white part, take one fangcun bi with wine; healed after three doses taken shortly after. (From *Chanbao*) Cracked nipples: Same formula as above. Mei Shi.
Internal abscess not yet formed: Collect feces from a brooding hen, mix with water and take; heals immediately. (From *Qianjin*) Head scurf and baldness: Male chicken feces powder, wash with aged sauce and vinegar. (From *Qianjin*)
Eliminate scars: Use three jin of lard to feed one black hen. After three days, collect white feces, combine with one tael each of Angelica dahurica (Baizhi) and Chinese angelica root (Danggui), decoct for ten boils, remove dregs, add half liang of hawk feces white part, mix and apply. (From *Waitai*)
Malignant sores in ear: Stir-fry and grind chicken feces white part, apply. (From *Shenghui*) Scrofula sores: Burn male chicken feces to ash, mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month, apply. (From *Qianjin*)
Death from gold ingestion poisoning: Take half sheng of chicken feces,淋 (drip/leach) with water to obtain one sheng of juice, drink, three times a day. (From *Zhouhou Fang*)
Strangulation not yet completely ceased: Take chicken feces white part the size of a date, mix with half a cup of wine, instill into mouth and nose. (From *Zhouhou*)
Chronic leg ulcers regardless of season: Boil chicken feces in water, soak for half a day, stop when healed. (From *Qianjin*) Toxic stream insects: Two pieces of white chicken feces, mix with maltose, apply to sore. (From *Zhouhou*)
Bone carbuncle not healing: Bone protrudes from the hole. Dig a pit, small opening, large interior, three chi deep. Put two sheng of dry chicken feces, mugwort, and briar leaves, pound into pieces, put in pit, burn until smoke rises. Expose the carbuncle opening to the smoke, cover with clothes to prevent gas leakage. In half a day, worms should emerge; very effective. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
Yin toxin abdominal pain: One handful each of chicken feces, black beans, and Kochia scoparia fruit (Difuzi), one clump of tangled hair, stir-fry together until smoking, pour into one bowl of good wine to steep, remove dregs, take hot to stop pain. (From *Shengsheng Bian*)
Pediatric heart pain: Five qian of white black-hen feces (sun-dried and ground), five qian of pine resin, grind into powder, mix with green onion head juice, make pills the size of paulownia seeds, coat with red lead oxide (Huangdan). Take five pills per dose with vinegar soup. Avoid cold, raw, and hard foods; effective in three to four days. (From *Yingtong Baiwen*)
Chicken egg (Jizi, i.e., chicken ovum): Eggs from yellow female hens are superior; those from black female hens are secondary.
[Flavor and Toxicity] Sweet, neutral, non-toxic.
Sun Simiao said: Slightly cold. Adversely affected by strong vinegar. Chen Cangqi said: Should not be eaten in excess; causes bowel sounds and agitates wind qi. Eaten with garlic and onions, causes shortness of breath; eaten with leek seeds, causes wind pain; eaten with softshell turtle meat, damages the body; eaten with otter meat, causes Dunshi Zhu (wandering corpse accumulation), untreatable by medicine; eaten with rabbit meat, causes dysentery. Gui Nong said: Pregnant women eating eggs and carp cause infants to be born with sores; eating with glutinous rice causes infants to have parasites. Li Shizhen said: Infants suffering from smallpox/rash must avoid eggs and the smell of cooking eggs, as it causes eye membrane formation.
[Indications] Treats heat-fire burning sores and epilepsy. Can be used to manufacture amber-like divine substances (*Benjing*). Tao Hongjing said: Using unhatched eggs (mixed yolk and white) for boiling produces something very similar, except it does not attract mustard seeds. Also, boiling the white part and holding it in silver containers turns it golden quickly. Calms the heart, stabilizes the five zang organs, stops fright, calms the fetus, treats epidemic febrile diseases with mania during pregnancy, male scrotal dampness and itching, and restores voice loss in throat obstruction. Vinegar-boiled eggs treat chronic red and white dysentery and postpartum deficiency dysentery. Fried with Guangfen (calamine/light powder) stops childhood malnutrition dysentery and female genital sores. Taken with Doulin Jiu (bean-leaking wine) treats thief-wind paralysis. Vinegar-soaked until spoiled, applied to skin blemishes. Made into wine, treats postpartum blood vertigo, warms the Water Organ (Kidney), reduces urination, stops tinnitus. Fried with wax, treats tinnitus, deafness, and childhood malnutrition dysentery (*Rihua*). Tonifies qi. Boil one egg in turbid water, take with water, main indication is postpartum dysentery. Decocted with wax, stops pediatric dysentery (Cangqi). For adults and children with fever, mix one he of white honey with three eggs, stir and take; immediate relief (Meng Shen). *Taiping Yulan* states: Swallow one black hen egg on New Year's Day to refine the form. *Lou Shenshu* states: At midnight on the last night of the eighth lunar month, face north and swallow one black hen egg to become invisible for specific purposes.
[Elucidation] Li Shizhen said: Egg white resembles Heaven, its qi is clear, its nature is slightly cold; egg yolk resembles Earth, its qi is turbid, its nature is warm; the whole egg uses both yolk and white, its nature is neutral. Those lacking essence are tonified with qi, so egg white clears qi and treats latent heat, red eyes, and sore throat; those lacking form are tonified with flavor, so egg yolk nourishes blood and treats dysentery and obstetric conditions; the whole egg regulates both qi and blood, thus treating the aforementioned conditions.
[Attached Formulas] Nine old formulas, twenty-two new formulas. Epidemic disease unresolved after sweating: Take five fresh eggs, pour into a cup, add water (amount of one egg) and stir until cloudy. Boil one sheng of water separately, drop in the eggs, stir slightly until just cooked, pour into a bowl, add a little soy sauce clear liquid, smell slightly fishy, drink while hot, cover to induce sweating and cure. (Xu Renze Formula) Epidemic vomiting and regurgitation, food vomited immediately upon intake: One egg, boiled for three to five boils, soaked in cold water briefly, swallowed. (*Waitai*)
Cold damage causing madness, extreme irritability and heat: Swallow one raw egg; effective. (*Shijian*)
Thirty-Six Yellow Emergency Formula: One egg, burned with shell to ash, ground, mixed with one he of vinegar and warmed, taken at once; emergence of worms from the nose indicates efficacy. For extremely yellow bodies, no more than three eggs needed, miraculous effect. (*Waitai Mi Yao*)
White Tiger Wind Disease: Cangqi said: Rub the diseased area with an egg, chant incantations, and place the excrement on top of a dung heap; heals within three times. White Tiger is the god of dung, loves eggs.
Generalized edema: Mix egg yolk and white, apply to swollen areas. Reapply when dry. (*Zhouhou Fang*)
Chronic asthma: Slightly crack an egg, soak in urine vat for three to four days, boil and eat; removes wind-phlegm. (*Jicheng*)
Heart qi pain: Break one egg, mix with two he of vinegar, warm and take at once. (*Zhouhou*)
Childhood malnutrition dysentery with abdominal distension: Make a hole in one egg, insert one peeled croton seed (Badou) and one qian of calomel (Qingfen), wrap in fifty layers of paper, steam over rice cooker three times, cool, remove shell and grind, add a little musk, mix with paste to make rice-grain-sized pills. Take two to three pills with warm water after meals. (*Jingyan Fang*)
Preventive solution for smallpox toxicity: Baohe Formula: One egg, insert one live earthworm, steam over rice until cooked, remove worm, give to child. Eat one egg every Spring Equinox annually; lifelong immunity from smallpox.
Li's Formula: One egg, soaked in child's urine for seven days, boiled and eaten; permanent immunity from smallpox.
Li Jie's Formula: Three to five first-laid eggs, soaked in latrine pit for five to seven days, taken out, boiled and eaten; eat one every few days; permanent immunity from smallpox. (Formula obtained by Marshal Xu from a Zhejiang native)
Red marks from smallpox: One egg (soaked in wine lees for seven days), fourteen powdered white silkworm pupae (Bai Jiangcan), mix evenly, rub on red marks; very effective. (*Shenghui*)
Sparrow egg facial spots: Soak egg in vinegar until spoiled, take out and apply. (*Puji*) Prevent fetal harm during epidemic diseases in pregnancy: Place seven eggs in a well to cool, take out, break, and swallow. (*Zimu Milu*)
Desire to abort fetus: One egg, add three finger-pinches of salt, take. (Zhang Wenzhong Formula) Restless fetus with bleeding: Cangqi said: Break two eggs, mix with white flour to resemble thin porridge, eat at once.
Fetus dead in uterus: One egg each from three families, one pinch of salt each from three families, one sheng of water each from three families, cook together. Have the woman face east and drink; expulsion occurs immediately. (*Qianjin Fang*)
Excessive postpartum bleeding: Three black hen eggs, half sheng of vinegar, two sheng of wine, mix and stir, decoct to obtain two sheng, divide into four doses. (*Shiyi*)
Postpartum heart pain: Boil egg in wine, eat to calm. (*Beiji Fang*)
Postpartum dry mouth and retracted tongue: Break one egg, mix with one zhong of water and take. (*Jingyan Houfang*)
Head wind with white dandruff: Three freshly laid black hen eggs, mix with five sheng of boiling water, wash hair three times; very good. (*Jiyan*)
Axillary fox odor: Two eggs, boiled, peeled, held hot against armpits, cooled, discarded at a crossroads, do not look back. Repeat three times for efficacy. (*Zhouhou Fang*)
Mineral drug-induced thirst: Soak egg in water, take the clear liquid raw; very good. (*Puji*)
Rescue from wild gelsemium (Yege) poisoning after death: Open mouth with object, instill three eggs; soon vomits gelsemium, then revives. (*Zhouhou Fang*)
Human vine poison (Humancao): Also known as Intestine-Cutting Grass. One leaf entering the mouth causes bleeding from all orifices. Urgently take Fenghuang Tai (egg incubating but chick not yet formed; exclude fully formed ones), pound to paste, mix with sesame oil, and instill. Must vomit toxic matter to survive; delay leads to death. (*Lingnan Weisheng Fang*)
Carbuncle and back abscess: Initial stage, or after ten days, with red swelling, heat, and day-night pain unresponsive to hundred medicines. Take one egg, fresh dog feces the size of an egg, mix evenly, simmer on low fire to proper consistency, shape into cake, apply to top of swelling, wrap with cloth. Check frequently, replace when cake becomes hot, do not allow movement or cessation of warmth, keep overnight to set. If older lesions, apply for three days, change once daily, until healed. This formula is foul and unsuitable for nobles. No other formula can match it, but keep for reference. (*Qianjin Fang*)

[Indications] Heat-red pain in eyes, removes latent heat below the heart, stops irritability, fullness, cough, and reverse flow, pediatric diarrhea, difficult labor in women, retained placenta; swallow raw. Soak in vinegar overnight, treats jaundice, breaks severe irritability and heat (*Bi Lu*). Postpartum blood closure not descending, take one white, mix with half vinegar and take (Cangqi). Mix with adzuki bean powder, apply to all heat toxins, erysipelas swelling, and mumps pain; miraculous effect. In winter, soak fresh ones in wine, seal tightly for seven days, take out.

Egg Yolk
[Flavor and Toxicity] Sweet, warm, non-toxic.
[Indications] Vinegar-boiled, treats postpartum deficiency and dysentery, pediatric fever. Cooked and eaten, removes irritability and heat. Refined, treats vomiting and regurgitation. Mixed with Dichroa root powder to make pills, taken with bamboo leaf decoction, treats chronic malaria (*Yaoxing*). Stir-fry to extract oil, mix with powder, apply to head sores (*Rihua*).
For sudden dry retching, swallow several raw; good. For urinary retention, also swallow raw; effective after several times. Tonifies yin blood, resolves heat toxins, treats dysentery, very effective (Li Shizhen).
[Elucidation] Li Shizhen said: Egg yolk has rich flavor and qi, yin within yin, thus can tonify form. Ancients said it has same merit as Donkey-hide gelatin (Ejiao), which is exactly this meaning. Its treatment of vomiting and sores relies on removing heat and attracting worms. Song said: Eggs are used most in medicine, and the hair-decoction formula is particularly unique. Liu Yuxi's *Chuanxin Fang* states: Tangled hair egg ointment treats children's heat sores. Use five eggs, remove white take yolk, tangled hair the size of an egg, mix, stew in iron pot over charcoal fire. Initially very dry, soon hair chars, then liquid appears. Take and put in bowl, until liquid exhausted. Apply to sores, then dust with Sophora root powder.
