[Zhizi Zi (Alpinia Oxyphylla)]
Nature: Warm. Flavor: Pungent. Non-toxic. Indications: Spermatorrhea, deficiency-type leakage. Benefits Qi, calms the Spirit, tonifies insufficiency, promotes the circulation of Sanjiao (Triple Burner), and regulates various types of Qi. For nocturnal polyuria, take 24 seeds, crush them, decoct with salt, and ingest; this yields remarkable results. (Processed with salt water.)
Zhizi Zi is warm in nature, inheriting the harmonious Wood Qi of spring from Heaven, entering the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. It is pungent and non-toxic, acquiring the metallic flavor of the West from Earth, entering the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian.
Both its aroma and flavor ascend, belonging to Yang. Its ability to treat spermatorrhea and deficiency leakage stems from its warming property benefiting the Liver; when Liver Qi is secure, essence does not leak. Its ability to treat dribbling urine stems from its pungent flavor benefiting the Lung; the Lung governs Qi, and Qi has a securing function. The Bladder relies on Qi transformation for its function, thus the Bladder also becomes secure. The pungent flavor benefits the Lung, which governs Qi, thereby benefiting Qi. When Qi is sufficient, the Spirit is calm, hence it also calms the Spirit. "Tonifying insufficiency" refers to pungent-warm substances tonifying the insufficiency of Liver and Lung Yang. The Sanjiao is the mansion of Ministerial Fire; pungent-warm properties benefit Yang, thus promoting the Sanjiao. The Lung governs Qi, and the pungent flavor moistens the Lung, thereby regulating various Qi movements. Urine is excreted only after Qi transformation; Zhizi Zi secures Qi, so decoction is effective for frequent urination.
Prescription Formulation:
Zhizi Zi combined with Wuyao (Lindera Root) and Shanyao (Dioscorea Rhizome) forms Suoquan Wan (Constricting the Fountain Pill), treating urinary frequency. Combined with Baifuling (Poria) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) as powder, treating red and white turbidity. Combined with Yuanzhi (Polygala Root), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), and Gancao (Licorice Root) as pills, treating red turbidity. Combined with Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baifuling (Poria), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel), and Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed), treating upward flooding of damp-phlegm. Combined with Huoxiang (Agastache Herb), Suzi (Perilla Fruit), Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel), Mugua (Chaenomeles Fruit), and Pipaye (Loquat Leaf), treating rebellious Qi. Combined with Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry), Shanzhuyu (Cornus Fruit), and Renshen (Ginseng Root), treating dribbling dysuria. Combined with Renshen (Ginseng Root), Paoyang (Prepared Ginger Rhizome), Huoxiang (Agastache Herb), and Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel), treating vomiting due to Stomach cold.
[Muxiang (Costus Root)]
Nature: Warm. Flavor: Pungent. Non-toxic. Indications: Pathogenic factors, repels toxic epidemics and malevolent influences, strengthens willpower, treats dribbling dysuria. Long-term consumption prevents nightmares and sleep terrors.
Muxiang is warm in nature, inheriting the harmonious Wood Qi of spring from Heaven, entering the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. It is pungent, non-toxic, and aromatic-dry, acquiring the pure dry-metallic flavor from Earth, entering the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian.
Both its aroma and flavor ascend, belonging to Yang. Pungent-warm properties benefit the Stomach; where Stomach Yang reaches, Yin pathogens, evil toxins, and malevolent influences are dispelled, thus treating pathogenic factors, toxic epidemics, and malevolent influences. Pungent-warm substances can benefit the Yangming Meridian; the Qi of Yangming can strengthen willpower. Dribbling dysuria refers to continuous dribbling of urine, caused by dysfunction of Bladder Qi transformation leading to fluid leakage. Continuous dribbling indicates sinking of deficient Yang. Here, "Yang" refers to the Yang of the Epigastrium. Pungent-warm properties benefit the Stomach; when Stomach Yang is sufficient, dribbling stops. Long-term consumption leads to Yang predominance; since Yang does not return to Yin, nightmares do not occur. With clear Yang and hidden Yin, sleep terrors do not occur.
Prescription Formulation:
Muxiang combined with Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizome) treats unbearable stabbing heart pain due to Blood and Qi stagnation in women. Combined with Qianniu (Pharbitis Seed), Leiwuan (Hymenophyllum Spore), and Binglang (Areca Seed), treating intestinal parasites.
