The above six herbs are sliced. Boil in six sheng of water until one sheng and eight he remain. Strain and divide into three warm doses. Administer the next dose after the patient has walked for a distance equivalent to eight or nine li. Avoid vinegar, peaches, plums, sparrow meat, etc. This formula is identical to that in Zhang Zhongjing's *Shanghan Lun* (Treatise on Cold Damage). (From *Waitai Miyao*)
Shenshi Xiaoyin Wan (Deep Master’s Drink-Dispersing Pill) treats phlegm-fluid retention caused by alcohol consumption, presenting with chest fullness, rebellious qi, vomiting, blurred vision, deafness, and borborygmus in the abdomen.
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Fuling (Poria) (each 3 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) (8 liang), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) (4 pieces, prepared by stir-frying with bran).
The above four herbs are crushed, sifted, and mixed with honey to form pills the size of wutong seeds. Take five pills per dose, three times daily, gradually increasing the dosage. (Ibid.)
In my life, I have suffered from two ailments: bleeding from the zang-fu organs below, and fluid retention in the diaphragm. The bleeding sometimes stops, but the fluid retention never ceases. Initially, because I used to sit up late at night writing, leaning left over the desk, food tended to settle on the left side. After midnight, feeling slightly fatigued, I would drink two or three cups of wine. When lying down to sleep, I also slept on my left side. When my qi and blood were vigorous, I felt no discomfort. Three or five years later, I noticed that the wine only flowed down on the left side, making a gurgling sound, accompanied by hypochondriac pain and significantly reduced appetite. Every ten days or so, I would vomit several sheng of sour and bitter fluid. In summer, only the right side of my body sweated and remained moist, while the left side, where the disease was located, was absolutely dry. I visited famous doctors and tried overseas remedies, with little effect. Occasionally, the treatment worked, but the condition relapsed after more than a month. I had tried tonifying herbs like Tianxiong (Aconitum Lateralis Radix Preparata), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), and Fanshi (Alumen); and purgative herbs like Qianniu (Pharbitis Seed), Gansui (Kansui Root), and Daji (Euphorbia Pekinensis Root). Later, I analyzed the pathology and concluded that it had formed a "pi nang" (a pathological sac-like accumulation of fluid), similar to water accumulating in depressions; the water does not flow until the depression is filled. As the clear part flows away, the turbid part remains stagnant because there is no outlet below. Thus, after accumulating for five to seven days, it must be vomited out to provide temporary relief, only to recur a few days later. The Spleen belongs to Earth, dislikes dampness, and water flows toward damp areas. Therefore, it is best to dry the Spleen to overcome dampness and fortify Earth to fill the depressions, thereby eliminating the disease. Consequently, I discontinued all other medicines and took only Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) for three months, after which the illness disappeared. I continued taking it for several years thereafter, without vomiting or diarrhea, with a relaxed chest and diaphragm, normal diet, and even sweating all over the body in summer with a cooling sensation. Water could now descend normally. Previously, fluid retention had soaked the Liver, causing frequent dizziness and blurred vision; afterwards, I could read small print under lamplight, all due to the power of Cangzhu. The method is as follows: Take one jin of Cangzhu, remove the skin and grind into powder. Use half a liang of raw Sesame Seeds, add two zhan of water, grind and filter to obtain the juice. Cook fifteen Jujubes until soft, remove skins and pits, and mash. Mix the sesame juice evenly with the mashed jujube paste to form a thin paste. Combine with the Cangzhu powder, pound thoroughly in a mortar, and form pills the size of wutong seeds. Dry them. Take fifty pills on an empty stomach each day with salted water, increasing to one hundred, then two hundred pills. Avoid peaches, plums, sparrow, and pigeon meat. Initially, there will be slight dryness in the chest; use processed Maoshu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) to mitigate this. If dryness becomes severe, take one dose of Shanzhi San (Gardenia Powder). Over time, the dryness subsides. After taking it for half a year, I used only extremely pungent and drying herbs, peeled without soaking, which were very potent yet naturally non-drying. Shanzhi San consists solely of dried Gardeniae Fructus ground into powder, taken with boiling water. Thus, one should know not to lean to one side when sitting for long periods; occasional movement is also a method of regulation. (From *Ben Shi Fang*) [Note: "Nang" originates from *Qianjin Fang*, referring to fluid accumulation forming a sac-like structure. Sun Yikui believed it resembled a uterine sac and could not be removed quickly, which is incorrect.]

Moxibustion Method: For anyone suffering from Shui Zhu (Water Contagion Disease) with surging saliva in the mouth, the classics state this is Lung qi invading the Kidney. Postprandial vomiting of water can be treated by moxibustion on Feishu (BL13), Sanyinjiao (SP6), and Qimen (LR14). This drains the Lung and tonifies the Kidney. The number of moxa cones should correspond to the patient’s age. Similarly, for phlegm-saliva presenting with similar symptoms, moxibustion should be performed using this method. (From *Zisheng Jing*)
