The Lung Meridian of Hand-Taiyin (Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian) originates from the middle jiao, emerges at the tip of the thumb; it connects to the Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-Yangming (Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian), which starts at the tip of the second finger, ascends, circles the mouth, and meets at the nose root where the Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming (Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian) begins. It descends through the nose, crosses out to the hairline on the big toe where the Spleen Meridian of Foot-Taiyin (Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian) ends, rising from the tip of the toe to enter the heart. The Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin (Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian) enters the palm along the inner aspect of the hand, exits at the tip of the little finger, connecting to the Small Intestine Meridian of Hand-Taiyang (Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian). Starting from the tip of the little finger, it slants upward to connect with the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin (Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian) at the inner canthus. The Bladder Meridian of Foot-Taiyang (Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian) originates from the inner canthus, travels down to the lateral side of the fifth toe. The Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin (Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian) moves under the fifth toe, rises to the chest, passes through the abdomen and hips. The Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin (Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian) originates in the chest, follows the hand, between the little and ring fingers. The Sanjiao Meridian of Hand-Shaoyang (Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian) starts at the lateral side of the fourth finger, circles around the ear anteriorly to the outer canthus. The Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang (Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian) starts at the outer canthus, runs alongside to the hairline on the big toe. The Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin (Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian) starts at the hairline on the big toe, ascends to the junction of the toes, injects into the Lung Meridian, circulating endlessly.
The Lung Meridian starts at Shaoshang (LU11) and Zhongfu (LU1); the Large Intestine Meridian starts at Shangyang (LI1) and Yingxiang (LI20); the Stomach Meridian belongs to Duitouwei (ST8); the Spleen Meridian includes Yinbai (SP1) and Dabao (SP21); the Bladder Meridian spans from Jingming (BL1) to Zhiyin (BL67); the Kidney Meridian features Yongquan (KI1) and Shufu (KI27); the Pericardium Meridian centers on Zhongchong (PC9) and Tianchi (PC1); the Sanjiao Meridian continues from Guanchong (TE1) to Ermen (TE21); the Gallbladder Meridian has Qiuyang (GB44) and Tongziliao (GB1); the Liver Meridian concludes with Dadun (LR1) and Qimen (LR14); the Heart Meridian comes from Shaochong (HT9) and Jiquan (HT1); the Small Intestine Meridian goes to Shaoze (SI1) and Tinggong (SI19). Students should memorize this Song of the Beginning and End of the Twelve Meridians deeply in their hearts.
There are fifteen collateral vessels in the human body, which I now count one by one from the beginning: The Collateral of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian is Lieque (LU7); the Collateral of the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian is Tongli (HT5); the Collateral of the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian is Neiguan (PC6); the Collateral of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian is Zhi Zheng (SI7); the Collateral of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian is Pianli (LI6); the Collateral of the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian is Waiguan (TE5); the Collateral of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian is Feiyang (BL58); the Collateral of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian is Fenglong (ST40); the Collateral of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian is Guangming (GB37); the Collateral of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian is Gongson (SP4); the Collateral of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian is Dazhong (KI4); the Collateral of the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian is Ligou (LR5); the Collateral of the Yang Du Mai (Governing Vessel) is Changqiang (GV1); the Collateral of the Yin Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) is Pingyi (CV15, also known as Yuzhen); the Great Collateral of the Spleen is Dabao (SP21). These are the fifteen Collateral Acupoints, which you must remember.
Remember the meridians with abundant qi and blood: The Fire Intestine (Small Intestine) Meridian of Hand-Taiyang and the Foot Meridian of the Stomach have abundant qi and blood. There are six meridians with less blood but more qi: the Sanjiao, Gallbladder, Kidney, Heart, Spleen, and Lung. The differences lie in those with more blood but less qi: the Pericardium, Bladder, Small Intestine, and Liver.
One must first clarify the contraindicated acupuncture points: Naohu (GV17), Xinhui (GV22), Shenying (GV24), Luoque (BL9), Yuzhen (BL9), Jiaosun (GB20), Lufeng (not standard, likely referring to skull points like Fengfu or similar, context implies head points), Chenqi (ST1), Chengling (BL18), Shendao (GV11), Lingtai (GV10), Danzhong (CV17), Shifen (CV9), Shenque (CV8), Huiyin (CV1), Henggu (KI12), Qichong (ST30), Shouwuli (LI13), Jimen (SP8), Chengjin (BL56), Qingling (not standard, likely Qingling LI11 or similar arm point, context implies arm points), and Sanyangluo (TE6) on the arm. These twenty-two points must not be needled. Pregnant women should not be needled at Hegu (LI4) and Sanyinjiao (SP6); internally, these also follow universal rules. For Stone Menstruation (amenorrhea due to obstruction), needle Menzhen (CV5) with caution; it is necessary to know that for women, lifelong pregnancy prevention requires specific knowledge. Additionally, Yunmen (LU2), Jiutui (CV15), Quepen (ST12), Keren (ST13), Jianjing (GB21) – if needled too deeply, it causes severe distress and fainting. If Zusanli (ST36) is urgently needed, tonification restores balance.
