Yuyuliang (Hematitum):
The nature is cold, the flavor is sweet. It is non-toxic.
Bencao states: It primarily treats cough with counterflow qi, alternating chills and fever, vexation and fullness, dysentery with red and white discharge, amenorrhea, and large heat associated with mass formations (Zhengjia).
Benjing states: Heavy substances can dispel timidity. The heaviness of Yuyuliang makes it a sedative and consolidating agent.
Bencao annotations state: Zhang Zhongjing treated dysentery that did not cease due to Taiyang disease, accompanied by epigastric hardness and lower jiao involvement, using Chishizhi Yuyuliang Tang as the primary formula.
The prescription consists of Chishizhi (Red Halloysite) and Yuyuliang (Hematitum), each one jin. They are crushed, boiled in six sheng of water until two sheng remain, the dregs are removed, and the decoction is divided into two doses.
Leigong states: It resembles stone; when lightly tapped, it breaks easily and can be made into powder. It may also appear layered like leaves of realgar (Xihuang); this herb benefits the spleen and calms the five zang organs.
Daizhe (Haematitum):
The nature is cold, the flavors are sweet and bitter. It is non-toxic. Also known as Xuwan. The variety from Gumu is called Xuwan; the variety from Daijun is named Daizhe. It enters the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian and the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian.
Bencao states: It treats Gui Zhu (ghostly infection/chronic wasting disease), Zefeng (thief wind), and Gu poison. It kills evil spirits and toxic pathogens, clears toxic qi in the abdomen, treats women's red leukorrhea and metrorrhagia, various leukorrheal diseases, difficult labor, retained placenta, and abortion. It nourishes blood, clears heat from the blood vessels of the five zang organs, treats Blood Bi (obstruction) and blood stasis, and addresses fright qi entering the abdomen in adults and children, as well as impotence.
Shengji Jing states: Timidity causes qi to float; heaviness is used to anchor it. Timidity is also a form of fright.
Huandan (Lapis Plumbi Subacetatus / Lead Oxide):
The nature is slightly cold, the flavor is pungent. It is Huandan.
Bencao states: It treats vomiting and reverse flow, epilepsy and mania, clears heat, and directs rebellious qi downward. It stops frequent urination, clears toxic heat causing tendon spasm, and stops bleeding from metal wounds.

Baifen (Cerussa / Basic Lead Carbonate):
Bencao states: Also known as Hufen, Dingfen, or Wafen. The Baifen used in Zhang Zhongjing's Zhufu Tang is not this substance, but rather white rice flour. Huang Yanfei claimed it treats cold in the chest, but it actually treats chest obstruction/stuffiness; "cold" was a writing error for "obstruction."
Yaoxing Lun states: Hufen serves as the assistant herb. Also known as Dingfen, with sweet and pungent flavors. It is non-toxic. It treats persistent accumulations that do not dissipate; when calcined, it stops infantile malnutrition dysentery (Gan Li).
