Feng Luzhan stated: Wan Tou Chuang (Bowl-Head Sore) may also occur after the resolution of an illness due to residual toxins not being fully cleared, manifesting as a Bowl-Head Sore during the recovery phase. It can be treated internally by decocting and administering herbs such as Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Gancao (Licorice Root), Guiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix Tail), Honghua (Carthami Flos), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), and Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix). Externally, Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean), and Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) are ground into powder, mixed with egg white (Jizi Qing) and pig bile (Zhudan Zhi), and applied to the sore for optimal efficacy. Do not disturb the scabs; wait for them to detach naturally.

Shen Douyuan stated: Guo Liang Ding (Bridge-Passing Carbuncle) results from excessive labor and worry damaging the Lung Meridian, causing stagnation of Qi and Blood, internal attack of Heat-Toxin, erosion of the chest and heart, and entanglement of the limbs, leading to soreness and pain in bones and muscles. By the sixth or seventh day, nausea develops; by the eighth or ninth day, swelling spreads to the ears and eyes; by the eleventh day, life is endangered. This Ding arises between the glabella and the upper nose bridge. Initially, when the characteristic shape of the Ding is not yet visible, it is most difficult to identify. If by the fifth or sixth day the head ulcerates and the body becomes cold, especially if severe pain is accompanied by cold sweat, it is incurable. The rescue and treatment methods are the same as those described in the Ding Chuang (Carbuncle) section. (From *Qi Xuan*)
Wang Kentang stated: Bi Ju (Nasal Furuncle) arises at the nasal column and is caused by Wind-Heat in the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and stagnant fire in the Upper Jiao. (From *Zhun Sheng*)

Cheng stated: Bi Ju is caused by accumulated heat pathogens in the Lung Meridian, or damage to the Spleen and Lung due to worry and overthinking, or excessive consumption of the Five Pungent substances (Wu Xin) and indulgence in roasted spirits. Initially, there is congestion and swelling of the nasal column, obstruction of both nares, and unbearable pain. For cases caused by accumulated heat and alcohol indulgence, Yinhua Gancao Tang (Honeysuckle and Licorice Decoction) should be used with additions of Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Huafen (Trichosanthis Radix), Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) to clear Lung Heat and slightly subdue the blazing fire. For cases caused by internal injury from worry and overthinking, the primary approach should be to protect and consolidate the Lung and Spleen. Toxic-resolving, cooling, Qi-damaging, and Spleen-injuring medicines must not be indiscriminately administered. Treatment methods should be selected from the Yong Ju (Abscess and Carbuncle) section; there is no need to establish a separate principal formula.
