Wang Kentang stated: Ear carbuncle (Er Fa Ju) arises on the auricle and belongs to the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian, caused by wind-heat pathogenic factors. Within six or seven days, it gradually swells to the size of a peach or assumes a honeycomb-like appearance; the color may be red or purple, accompanied by intense heat like fire and pain so severe it reaches the heart. If yellowish-white pus is discharged upon puncture after ten days, the prognosis is good; however, if no pus is found upon puncture but fresh blood flows intermittently, accompanied by inability to eat or drink, coma, and mania, the prognosis is fatal. (From *Yixue Zhunsheng*)
Shen Douyuan stated: Ear carbuncle (Er Fa Ju) involves the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, which is characterized by abundant Qi and scarce Blood. This carbuncle erupts below the temples, beside the ear near the face, above the Xuanli (GB21) and Zhuoke acupoints. Within five or six days, it rapidly develops into a honeycomb shape with purple skin, burning heat like fire, and scorching pain. If punctured within ten days and pus is present, survival is possible; if there is no pus but bleeding occurs, along with mental confusion and fluctuation, death will inevitably occur within twenty-four days, and it is incurable. (From *Qixuan*)
*Waike Xinfa Yaojue* states: Ear carbuncle (Er Fa Ju) arises between the folds of the helix, causing swelling that extends through the entire auricle. In severe cases, pus may penetrate into the auditory canal.
*Waike Xinfa Yaojue* further states: Postauricular carbuncle (Er Hou Ju) arises slightly behind the upper part of the auricle (at the Jiaosun TE17 acupoint). Its characteristic feature is a depression in this area when the mouth is opened.
Wang Kentang stated: Ear furuncle (Er Ding) presents with alternating chills and high fever, and pain so severe it is unbearable. (From *Yixue Zhunsheng*)
Dou Hanqing stated: To treat ear furuncle (Er Ding), apply boiling wine to the root of the lesion until it subsides. Subsequently, wash the area with bitter tea to detoxify the effects of the wine.
Chen Shigong stated: Black furuncle (Hei Ding) arises inside the auditory canal, appearing black, hard, and necrotic. Upon rupture, it bleeds and discharges fluid, with pain radiating to the cheeks and zygomatic region. It is suitable for needle puncture. Treat according to the methods outlined in the Furuncle chapter. (From *Waike Zhengzong*)

Wang Kentang stated: Ear eczema/ulcer (Er Gan) involves foul-smelling ulcers, resulting from wind-heat accumulation obstructing the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian. (From *Yixue Zhunsheng*)
Feng Luzhan stated: Foul-smelling discharge from ear eczema is called "Hu Er" (Frozen Ear). It is caused by excess Kidney Qi leading to accumulated heat rushing upward, or due to wind-water pathogenic factors. (From *Waike Jinang*)
Li Dongyuan stated: Ulcers arising behind the ears in children are named Kidney eczema (Shen Gan).
