Leprosy (Dama Feng), referred to in classics as Li Feng, is also known as Lai Feng. It arises because the patient's Middle Qi (vital energy of the middle jiao) is deficient, leading to infection by yin pathogenic qi and turbid, evil pathogens from heaven and earth; or due to transformation by Wind-Wood qi, causing wind-heat to generate parasites; or moisture-toxin invading the skin and hair, subsequently affecting Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) qi; or contact with unclean substances; or through contagion, all can lead to the generation of parasites. Generally, the generation of parasites is governed by the Jueyin (Liver/Pericardium) channel, which belongs to Wind-Wood and governs the generation of five types of parasites. Initially disregarded, they gradually increase over time, becoming incurable. Early symptoms include itching of the eyebrows leading to gradual loss, redness and swelling of the malar regions with itching; progressing to rough skin and hair loss on both arms, and eventually generalized pruritus intolerable to bear. The toxin penetrates deeply into the blood vessels, while damp-heat accumulates within the Zang-Fu organs. Parasites erode the Zang-Fu and bore into muscles. Over time, spirit and essence become depleted, parasites feed collectively, transforming into Lao Zhai (consumptive disease) leading to death. Ancients stated: this disease has three causes and five deaths. The three causes are: one, Wind-Toxin; two, Damp-Toxin; three, Contagion. The five deaths are: one, Skin Death, characterized by numbness and insensitivity; two, Vessel Death, characterized by blood ulceration turning to pus; three, Flesh Death, characterized by lack of pain upon cutting; four, Tendon Death, characterized by flaccidity and laxity of hands and feet; five, Bone Death, characterized by collapse of the nasal bridge. Along with eyebrow loss, blindness, everting lips, and hoarse/swallowed voice, these are all difficult to treat. Whenever encountering this syndrome, if treated early with clearing and dispersing methods, safety can be ensured. If the disease has persisted for years, but the patient's spirit, Qi, and Blood have not yet declined, and the six pulses are surging, large, and solid, or surging, rapid, and forceful, employ the Sweating (Han), Vomiting (Tu), and Purgation (Xia) methods to attack and expel from the exterior and interior respectively, preventing the toxin from stagnating and facilitating its rapid resolution. Subsequently administer formulas that clear heat, detoxify, cool blood, nourish blood, and simultaneously tonify Ying and benefit Wei. Strictly avoid acrid-drying substances to prevent consumption of fluids and essence; blood depletion would exacerbate the fierce nature of the pathogen. Reviewing previous prescriptions, such as Feng Shi's Zaizao San (Reconstruction Powder), Zuixian San (Intoxicated Immortal Powder), Chen Shi's Wanling Dan (Myriad Spirits Pill), Kushen Wan (Sophora Root Pill), and Shenyang Zhenzhen Dan (Divine Response Nourishing True Spirit Pill), various methods are already comprehensive; students may follow them. However, patients must abstain from alcohol and sexual activity, and avoid foods that trigger wind and stir up qi, including meat, fish, salt, soy sauce, roasted, and raw-cold items. Only then will it be beneficial; otherwise, it will be ineffective. Exercise utmost caution!
