Chicken: Yellow hen (female chicken), Black-bone chicken. Pig kidney, pig heart. Roe deer meat. Walnut. Cherry.
A scholar suffered from nocturnal emission and seminal leakage. The general public often treated this as Kidney deficiency without success. I used Qingxin Lianzi Yin (Clear the Heart with Lotus Seed Decoction) as a base, adding Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae), Muli (Concha Ostreae), and Bixie (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma), or additionally Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen), which resulted in a cure.
A young boy suffered from continuous nocturnal emission. I modified Erchen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) to eliminate damp-phlegm in the stomach, followed by several doses of Qingxin Lianzi Yin, leading to recovery.
A man presented with seminal emission and white turbidity (cloudy urine resembling rice water), accompanied by dry mouth and thirst, constipation, and severe afternoon fever. I treated him with Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) added with Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) and Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), combined with Jiawei Liuwei Wan (Modified Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), resulting in a cure.
The left hypochondrium is the region of the Liver. I have observed that patients suffering from Phlegm-Fire often experience pain in the left hypochondrium. This is likely due to an irritable and angry temperament; anger injures the Liver, thereby causing the disease. Danxi stated: "Left hypochondriac pain indicates excessive Liver Fire, caused either by Excess of Qi or by Fixed Blood (Blood Stasis). Right hypochondriac pain is usually caused by the flow and accumulation of Phlegm," because the right hypochondrium is the region of the Lung. If Liver Qi is urgent and Excess, one must use herbs such as Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix). For severe pain due to excessive Lung Fire, Danggui Longhui Wan (Angelica and Gardenia Pill) should be taken with Ginger Decoction; this is a crucial formula for purging Fire. For Fixed Blood (Blood Stasis), use Taoren (Persicae Semen), Honghua (Carthami Flos), and Chuanxiong, added with acrid-cool agents to treat it. In treating scholars suffering from Phlegm-Fire, I frequently encounter this symptom. It arises because they lean their left hypochondrium against the desk while writing or composing essays. After fatigue, they lean heavily against it. Initially, no injury is apparent, but over time, hypochondriac pain develops due to the obstruction of Fixed Blood (Blood Stasis) in the chest. Adding one qian of Honghua (Carthami Flos) to the principal formula yields miraculous effects. Furthermore, mixing small amounts of Tongbian (Urine of Healthy Child) and Jiuji (Juice of Allium Tuberosum) into the prepared medicine, grinding them evenly, and taking it warm yields even better results. Mild pain in the right hypochondrium indicates the flow and accumulation of Phlegm, often accompanied by Food Retention. In such cases, Yanjian San (Salt-Fried Powder) and Shunqi Wan (Regulate Qi Pill), which are acrid-warm agents, are typically used. I have also discussed left hypochondriac pain and epigastric pain, which are common in women. This is generally due to Qi stagnation from worry, thought, and anger failing to flow freely, thus causing pain. When treating various diseases in women, the primary approach must be to move Qi and relieve depression, supplemented by breaking accumulations and dissipating Fire, to grasp the essence of treatment. As the saying goes: "Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) and Suosha (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) are the supreme treasures for women; Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) and Congrong (Cynomorii Folium) are the fine delicacies for men." This refers to the aforementioned principles.
