[Peyuan San]
Crataegi Fructus (Shanzha), Medicated Leaven (Shenqu), Malto (Maiya), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Banxia), Amomi Fructus (Sharen) (each 1 liang); Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Jupi), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Agastachis Herba (Huoxiang), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Nongpu), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Xiong), Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), Perillae Folium (Zisu) (each 5 qian).
The Earth of the Stomach is the Kun Yuan (Kun Yuan refers to the Earth, metaphorically indicating the Spleen and Stomach as the foundation of acquired constitution) of the human body. Great is the Kun Yuan, upon which all things depend for their growth; does not the *I Ching* (Book of Changes) say so? However, while nourishment indeed possesses methods for sustaining life, there are also risks of harming the body in the process of nurturing it.
This is why medicine and agriculture have been passed down together through the ages without being abolished. Nowadays, children develop accumulation due to diet, and with food retention turning into malnutrition syndromes (Gan syndrome), people in the market merely engage in indiscriminate attack (metaphorically referring to excessive purgation damaging the Spleen and Stomach), like an axe handle whose shape does not fit the axe head, thereby causing harm to themselves and injuring the
Kun Yuan (Spleen and Stomach), invoking the autumnal command (referring to the desiccating and contracting qi, here implying damage to vital vitality), leaving the mechanism of continuous generation completely depleted. The above formula uses Crataegi Fructus, Medicated Leaven, Malto, and Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium to eliminate retained filth and promote appetite; Amomi Fructus, Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum, Atractylodis Rhizoma, and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma to warm and transform cold-dampness and regulate deficiency-phlegm; Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Agastachis Herba, and Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex to diffuse Qi stagnation; if Qi is deficient, add Ginseng Radix (Renshen) and Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu); if Qi is in excess, add Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian); Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Cyperi Rhizoma, and Perillae Folium to move Qi stagnation; if Blood is deficient, add Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) and Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui); if Blood is in excess, add Moutan Cortex (Danpi). In this manner, the spirit becomes tranquil and clear, and without specifically treating the eyes, the eye condition will be cured. Thus, named Peyuan based on its efficacy.
Poem states: Peyuan Huoxiao Baizhi plus Shanzha, Jupi Nongpu Cangxiong Maiye Maiya, Grasses brewed into fragrant Shenqu wine, Sharen Banxia intoxicates the Zisu family.
(Use Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma (Huai Shanyao) pounded into paste to form pills, taken with Malto decoction; adding two liang of Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), named Da'an Wan, with the same treatment method.)

Crataegus Carnea (Shanzha Rou) (2 liang), Six-Ingredient Medicated Leaven (Liushen Qu), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia), Poria (Fuling) (each 1 liang); Raphani Semen (Laifuzi), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Jupi), Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao) (each 5 qian).
Internal injury from diet causes aversion to food, abdominal pain and diarrhea, fullness and distension, and belching with sour regurgitation; this formula is indicated.
The Classics state: The five palaces of Yin (referring to the Five Zang Organs) are injured by the Five Flavors (referring to overconsumption of the five flavors). Therefore, when food intake exceeds proper amounts, the Spleen and Stomach are damaged, unable to transport and transform grain qi, leading to the aforementioned symptoms. Detailed examination of the mutual restriction of the five flavors shows: Sour overcomes Sweet, Fermented overcomes Burnt, Bitter overcomes Heat, Fragrant overcomes Fermented, Dry overcomes Damp, Bland overcomes Fluid retention, and Promoting overcomes Stagnation. Thus, the sourness of Crataegus Carnea is used to digest rich and sweet foods; the fermented nature of Medicated Leaven is used to resolve burnt items;
Bitterness of Forsythiae Fructus is required to resolve constrained heat; fragrance of Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium is relied upon to dispel foulness. Pinelliae Rhizoma is acrid and hot, drying dampness in the Earth organ. Poria is bland and pure, promoting water retention. Raphani Semen's promoting action moves food stagnation; Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma's acrid, sweet, fragrant, and warm properties collectively overcome the five flavors, naturally bringing great peace to the five palaces, and thus the harmonious qi of the Zang-Fu organs is preserved, hence named Baohe.
Poem states: Baohe Fuling Shenqu Shanzha Rou, Jupi Xia Lianqiao Laifu Zi, Da'an adds only one ingredient Baizhu, Dissolving while tonifying, take with peace of mind.
