Chen Shiduo stated: "Dark treatment" refers to ailments occurring in the hidden parts of the body that are difficult to discuss openly. These conditions are the most difficult to treat, yet paradoxically, the easiest to cure. Generally speaking, such hidden ailments account for ninety percent among women. They may occur outside the vaginal opening (Ermen), inside the vagina, on the breasts, around the umbilicus, beside the anus, or upon the bound feet (Jinlian). While these conditions can be verbally described, patients often hesitate to speak fully due to shame; thus, physicians must rely on intuition and silent contemplation. If the lesion is located on the external surface of the body, it necessarily belongs to sores and ulcers (Chuanyang). Such cases should be treated according to the previously discussed methods for sores and ulcers, and will not be discussed further here.
However, for diseases within the vaginal opening, a specific prescription must be established and transmitted to medical practitioners for treating such hidden ailments. Typically, diseases within the vagina manifest as either itching or pain. The single prescription I propose can address both symptoms simultaneously with miraculous efficacy. The formula consists of Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 1 liang, Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) 3 qian, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 5 qian, Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 1 qian, Fuling (Poria) 5 qian, and Lianshugen (Meliae Radix Cortex) 5 fen. Decoct with water and take orally. The brilliance of this formula lies in its ingredients, which primarily soothe the Liver (Gan) and eliminate Dampness (Shi). It yields remarkable results regardless of whether there is Fire (Huo) or not, or Wind (Feng) or Dampness present. Therefore, one need not inquire specifically about the nature of the itching, pain, swelling, or ulceration; this understanding is essential for dark treatment. If Phlegm (Tan) is present, add Baijiezi (Brassicae Semen Album) 1 qian; if Fire is present, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 1 qian; if Cold (Han) is present, add Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 1 qian. No other additions are necessary.
Master Zhang remarked: "How can it be so miraculous? I cannot fathom its mechanism."
Master Hua stated: "There are two methods that have not been transmitted; I shall impart them to Yuan Gong. For worms generated within the vaginal opening, use one chicken liver. Pierce numerous holes into it with a needle, insert it into the vagina, and the worms will all enter the chicken liver. After using three livers, the condition will be completely cured without adding any other medicinal ingredients. It is only necessary to pierce many holes to provide an entry path for the worms. Following the three livers, administer a decoction of Baishao 5 qian, Danggui 5 qian, Sheng Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 3 qian, Chao Zhizi (Fried Gardeniae Fructus) 3 qian, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 5 fen, Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) 3 qian, Fuling 3 qian, and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 5 qian, decocted in water. (Annotation: This formula is named Qu Shi Hua Chong Tang [Dampness-Removing and Worm-Dissolving Decoction]). After four doses, the recurrence will cease.
Another formula treats sores on the exterior of the vaginal opening that persist for a long time, yielding miraculous effects. Take Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) 3 qian, stir-fried and powdered; Qingfen (Calomelas) 5 fen; Ercha (Camelliae Seed Cake) 3 qian; Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) 5 fen; Shexiang (Moschus) 3 fen; Baiwei (Cynanchi Atrati Radix) 3 qian, stir-fried and powdered; Qiuyinfen (Earthworm Excrement) 3 qian, stir-fried; Qianfen (Lead White) 3 qian, stir-fried; Ruxiang (Olibanum) 3 qian, defatted; and Chaonao (Borneolum Naturalis/Camphora) 3 qian. Each ingredient should be powdered separately and then mixed uniformly. Apply the powder to the affected area. Complete recovery occurs within two days, demonstrating extreme efficacy. This formula can also treat various types of sores, all with miraculous results.
