Use *Scutellariae Radix* (Shuqi), wash to remove the fishy smell; use *Yunmu* (Cloud Mother/Mica), calcine for two days and nights; use *Longgu* (Dragon Bone/Fossilized Bones). Equal parts of these three, pound into powder. Treat *Mu Nue* (Malaria with predominant chills). Before the onset of symptoms, take half a *qian* with *Jiangshui* (fermented rice water). For *Wen Nue* (Warm Malaria), use *Shuqi* (0.5 *fen*), take at the time of impending attack (1 *qian bi*).
Use *Shuqi*, *Zhimu* (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), *Shengma* (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), *Baiwei* (Cleisostomatis Herba), *Digupi* (Lycii Cortex), *Maimendong* (Ophiopogonis Tuber) (each 0.5 *fen*); *Wumei Rou* (Pruni Fructus Seedless), *Biejia* (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, prepared with heat), *Weirui* (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma) (each 0.4 *fen*); *Shigao* (Gypsum Fibrosum) (0.8 *fen*); *Gancao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, prepared with heat) (0.3 *fen*); *Changshan* (Dichroae Radix) (0.6 *fen*); *Douchi* (Sojae Semen Praeparatum) (1 *he*). Decoct, crush, and sieve into powder. Mix with honey to form pills the size of *Wuzi* (seed of a Chinese parasol tree). Take ten pills with water, twice daily. Gradually increase to twenty pills. This formula ensures recovery in all cases; add 1 *liang* of *Guangming Zhusha* (Vermilion/Realgar) for divine efficacy. It treats miasma (*Zhangqi*) in Lingnan, characterized by alternating hot and cold, and exhaustion resembling malaria. It is also indicated for malaria persisting for years without cure. Avoid consuming *Songcai* (Chinese Cabbage), *Xiancai* (Amaranth), raw green onions, and raw vegetables.
Use *Shuqi*, *Qingzhu* (Atractylodis Rhizoma, black-skin variety), *Xiangfu* (Cyperi Rhizoma), *Shengma*, *Biejia* (prepared with heat), *Muli* (Ostreae Concha, prepared with heat), *Zhusha* (Cinnabar, ground), *Zhuling* (Polyporus), *Xiangchi* (Fermented Soybean) (each 0.4 *fen*); *Changshan*, *Dahuang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (each 0.8 *fen*). Pound into powder. Mix with honey to form pills the size of *Wuzi*. Take twelve pills with rice soup, twice daily. Continue until the condition gradually improves and returns to normal, then stop. Treats refractory *Zhang Nue* (Miasma Malaria).
Treats *Leng Bi* (Cold Bi Syndrome), with symptoms including heaviness and pain in the lower back and limbs, general body soreness, and stiffness/tension in the back and neck.
*Huangqi* (Astragali Radix, prepared with honey), *Fangfeng* (Saposhnikoviae Radix, de-gorged), *Qianghuo* (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), *Chishao* (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, stir-fried with wine), *Jianghuang* (Curcumae Longae Rhizoma, stir-fried), *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, washed with wine) (each 2.5 *qian*); *Gancao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, prepared with heat) (0.5 *qian*).
Take as one dose. Use 2 *zhong* of water, 5 slices of *Shengjiang* (Zingiberis Rhizoma Fresh), and 2 dates (*Dazao*). Decoct to 1 *zhong*. Take before meals. Another version excludes *Fangfeng*.
My commentary: The combination of Wind-Cold-Dampness forms Bi Syndrome. It is said that "where pathogenic factors gather, Qi must be deficient." Deficiency of Ying-Qi leads to insensibility (*burén*), and deficiency of Wei-Qi leads to immobility (*buyòng*). Therefore, *Huangqi* is used to consolidate the Wei-Qi, acting synergistically (*xiangshi*).
This is the *Juanbi Tang* (Bi-Dispelling Decoction) without *Huangqi* and *Fangfeng*, added with *Baizhu* (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), *Haitongpi* (Spatholobi Caulis/Bark variant), and *Shengjiang*. Decoct in water, strain, and add a small amount of *Chenxiang* (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) juice. Take before meals. Treats arm pain preventing elevation.
Often suffering from left arm pain, some attribute it to phlegm-fluid retention, others to Wind or Dampness. Various medicines were tried, followed by acupuncture, all without effect. This formula cured it. This is due to stagnation of Qi and Blood, not merely Wind or Dampness. For conditions below the waist, take before meals; for conditions above the waist, take after meals.
