初位风关出现指纹,易治;
中位气关出现指纹,病势深入;
Facial Five-Organ Color Diagnosis Diagram
A greenish complexion corresponds to the Liver (Gan), indicating diseases such as convulsions and wind-stroke (Jing Feng).
A reddish complexion corresponds to the Heart (Xin), indicating excessive heat (Re Sheng).
A yellowish complexion corresponds to the Spleen (Pi), indicating infantile malnutrition and accumulation disorders (Gan Ji).
A whitish complexion corresponds to the Lung (Fei), indicating deficiency-cold (Xu Han).
A blackish complexion corresponds to the Kidney (Shen), indicating ominous prognoses or critical conditions (E Hou).
Regularity and irregularity of facial colors in the four seasons: In spring, Liver Wood should be green; in summer, Heart Fire should be red; in autumn, Lung Metal should be white; in winter, Kidney Water should be black. Each organ governs for 72 days. For the last 18 days of each season's final month, Spleen Earth governs, with yellow being the favorable color. Conversely, seeing white in spring, black in summer, red in autumn, yellow in winter, or green during the final months of each season indicates an unfavorable prognosis (Ni).
General discussion on main diseases: Redness indicates excessive heat; a red face with cyanotic lips indicates Cold Damage (Shang Han); greenness indicates convulsions and wind-stroke; whiteness indicates vomiting and diarrhea; yellowness indicates accumulation or malaria; blackness indicates a critical condition.
From birth until six months of age,
the fingerprint patterns at the Tiger's Mouth are not yet formed.
The forehead is observed to determine cold and heat,
combined with facial color to diagnose illness.
For infants from birth to half a year old, the cause is determined by observing the area from the forehead to the eyebrows. Physicians place three fingers horizontally to locate the pattern. The left side of the head requires examination using the right hand. If it is due to Cold Damage, all three segments show heat signs; if there is food retention, cough, phlegm, or convulsions, the middle segment shows heat; if all three segments are cold, it indicates vomiting and diarrhea; if the middle segment shows heat accompanied by abdominal distension and discomfort, it indicates accumulation of heat in the abdomen.
When the fingerprint appears at the initial Wind Gate (Feng Guan), the disease is easy to treat;
when it appears at the middle Qi Gate (Qi Guan), the disease has deepened;
when it appears at the terminal Life Gate (Ming Guan), the disease is critical.
If the fingerprint penetrates straight through all three gates to the fingertip, it is difficult to save.
Red indicates Cold Damage; light red indicates internal heat with vomiting and diarrhea; purple indicates wind-heat; green indicates fright/convulsions; white indicates infantile malnutrition (Gan); yellow indicates spleen accumulation; equal parts of green and purple indicate fright-accumulation and wind-heat. Mixed green, purple, and black patterns that are chaotic indicate extreme severity, while pure black indicates incurability.
Fish-bone shape indicates convulsions and wind-stroke, and phlegm-heat.
Hanging needle shape indicates wind-cold injury, diarrhea, and accumulated heat.
Water character shape indicates food retention, cough, and fright-infantile malnutrition.
Yi-character shape indicates infantile malnutrition and convulsions and wind-stroke.
Ring shape indicates infantile malnutrition-accumulation and vomiting/regurgitation.
Chaotic pattern shape indicates parasitic infestation.
Worm shape indicates parasitic infantile malnutrition and filth accumulation in the large intestine.
Pearl shape indicates death.
