The *Neijing* states: Leprosy (Lifeng, leprosy) arises from heat in the Ying (Nutrient) Qi, causing the Qi to become turbid. Consequently, the nasal bridge collapses and the complexion deteriorates, with skin ulcers and sores appearing. When Wind-Cold pathogens lodge in the meridians and do not depart, it is named Lifeng.
It further states: Wind entering the pulse leads to Lifeng, commonly known as "Lei disease" (leprosy). Therefore, the treatment principle states: In cases of severe Wind disease characterized by heavy joints and loss of eyebrows and beard, termed "Da Feng" (Great Wind), needling should target the muscle layer to induce sweating for one hundred days. Wang Bing's commentary notes: This drains the stagnation-heat of the Wei (Defensive) Qi. Needling the bone marrow layer induces sweating for another hundred days, draining the stagnation-heat of the Ying (Nutrient) Qi. After a total of two hundred days, when eyebrows and beard regrow, needling should cease. As the stagnation-heat dissipates and Yin Qi recovers internally, profuse sweating occurs and hair grows back. First, administer Huapi San (Birch Bark Powder), gradually increasing the dose. After five to seven days, moxa-convulsions are applied to Chengjiang (CV24) acupoint—seven moxa cones. If the moxa blisters are mild, repeat moxibustion; once healed, moxa again. Subsequently, administer Ersheng San (Two Sages Powder) to clear heat and expel Wind pathogens from the blood. Abstain from sexual intercourse for three years. The aforementioned acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal methods merely illustrate symbolic treatments. This is the method for treating Lung Wind. However, this condition is not limited to the Lung organ. Commonly, it is said that the nose belongs to the Lung and diseases originate there, but strictly speaking, this is incorrect. In such cases, since the nasal tip is swollen, red, and distended, it falls under the category of sores/ulcers. This is because Blood follows Qi transformation; if Qi fails to transform properly, Blood accumulates. Once Blood accumulates, it causes flesh to rot and parasites to generate. It is believed that the Jueyin channel governs the generation of five types of parasites; since Jueyin corresponds to Wind-Wood, Wood governs the generation of these parasites. Generally, excessive Fire of the Triple Burner Shaoyang controls Metal (Lung); due to Metal deficiency, Wood overacts upon Metal. The Classic states: "This is an abnormal counter-restriction" (Wu Sheng). One should use formulas that drain Heat/Fire and promote Qi flow. Parasites will naturally cease to exist. Medical principles state: "Flowing water does not rot; a door pivot does not worm." This applies here. Thus, the pathology clearly involves Blood Heat. Medication should be used to gently vent and drain. Decoct Shengma Tang (Cimicifuga Decoction) from the *Formulas of the Imperial Medical Bureau*, and administer Xieqing Wan (Draining Green Pills) from Qian Yi’s works. Other points follow meridian discussions. Therefore, in Wind diseases, Yang Qi is injured first.
Huapi San (Birch Bark Powder): Treats Wind-Toxin in the Lung, widespread skin sores and scabies, urticaria with itching that becomes ulcerated upon scratching. Also treats facial acne and comedones in women.
Ingredients: Birch bark (Si Liang [4 liang], burnt to ash), Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike, 2 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root, 0.5 liang, honey-fried), Xingren (Apricot Seed, 2 liang, peeled and crushed, boiled in one bowl of water in a silver vessel until half remains, then dried), Zhike (Bitter Orange Fruit, 4 liang, calyx removed, charred with charcoal until nearly ash, cooled on wet paper).
Process: Except for Apricot Seeds, grind the remaining herbs into powder. Separate the Apricot Seeds, grind finely, then mix uniformly with other powders. Store in a porcelain jar. Dosage: 3 Qian per administration, taken after meals with warm wine.
Ersheng San (Two Sages Powder): Treats Great Wind and Leprosy.
Ingredients: Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, 0.5 liang), Zaojiao Ci (Gleditsia Spine, 3 Qian, burnt to ash).
Process: Burn 1–2 Jin of Gleditsia Spines to ash and grind fine. Decoct 0.5 Liang of Rhubarb. Take 2 Qian mixed with decoction. Morning: Huapi San. Noon: Shengma Tang with Xieqing Wan. Evening: Ersheng San. These preparations aim to gently vent and drain Wind-Heat from the Blood.
Qisheng Wan (Seven Sages Pills): Yuliren (Bush Cherry Kernel, peeled), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, steamed and baked, 1 Liang each), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark, peeled), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome, calyx removed), Binglang (Areca Seed, raw), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root, raw), Chuanxiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, 0.5 Liang each).
Qixuan Wan (Seven Ventilation Pills): Helile Pi (Pericarpium Chebulae), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root, weed-free and washed), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, unspecified processing), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root, 5 Liang each), Taoren (Peach Kernel, peeled and crushed, 6 Liang), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, wrapped in flour and baked, 15 Liang), Gancao (Licorice Root, unspecified processing, 6 Liang).
These treat Wind obstruction with pathogenic Heat, moistening and purging the Large Intestine. Suitable for Stroke, Wind-Seizures, Leprosy, and constipation. The *Ju Fang* treatment principle states: Although Hezi (Chebulic Myrobalan) is astringent and bitter, it stabilizes the Zang-Fu. Used here with purgatives like Dahuang and Zhishi to slowly push out stagnation and drain pathogens. For elderly patients with Wind-induced constipation due to internal depletion of Body Fluids, harsh purgatives must be avoided. The *Neijing* states: At forty, Yin Qi naturally halves, and daily activities decline. At fifty, the body feels heavy, and hearing/vision dim. At sixty, impotence occurs, Qi severely declines, orifices become obstructed, lower deficiency and upper excess manifest, with runny nose and tears. Thus, understanding this brings strength; ignorance brings aging. The world claims the elderly have no Heat and are purely deficient, ignoring that at forty, Yin halves, making Yin Deficiency and Yang Excess evident. Therefore, lower Yin deficiency and upper Yang excess result in Upper Excess and Lower Deficiency. This logic is clear.
